  1. Made another evening trip out on the big lake. Set lines in 100 fow just north of the piers and trolled sw. Found a nick in the backing of the copper as we were setting up, so we decided to fix that before putting the board on. Dad just finished tying it back together and the meat rig took took a rip. 83 ft down in 117 fow, #14 king. Got nothing for the next hour and half. Troll sw to 130 fow then came in heading se to 110fow,then turned and headed n. That's when the fun began. Dipsy 125 back with blue buble fly start hopping, #5 king. Just get it reset and it goes again. This time a #12 king. It got thrashing in the net and trashed the leader so we had to replace it. While trying to get the beads on the new leader the other dipsy set 150 back with a no see um fly starts pounding, #15 king. Got the rod reset while dad finished getting the other dipsy refitted. Just about to reset the blue bubble and the no see um goes again, #13 king. Kinda hectic from 8-8:45 but totally awesome. Pulled lines 9:15 finishing 5 for 5 with no equipment donated to the bottom of the lake. :thumb:

    Keep um' tight

  2. Headed out from the pier heads to 100fow. As I made my way out I noticed a pack of boats north of the piers around 120fow trolling in a circle. Decided it was NASCAR for boats- they kept making left turns! Not wanting to get dizzy, we set lines and trolled ssw. Didn't have all the lines in when a laker hit a green dolphin spoon 70 down 110 fow. Just finished getting lines out and the dipsy 150 back with no see um fly goes with a nice king in 117 fow. Later our meat rig pops, fish gives a couple nice jerks and it's gone . Still trolling through 117 fow and downrigger with greeh dolphin goes again. As I get to the rod the 300 copper with wrecked em fly starts screaming. We landed both fish, both kings. Had one more hit on copper in 110 fow but, for the third time this year, the leader broke :mad::mad:. I had switched all my lead, copper and dipsy leaders to 30# flourocarbon. 2 flasher fly combos and a spoon gone on fish that were smaller than the ones we landed. I'm switching everything back to big game. Still a good night on the lake.

    Keep um' tight!

  3. I have two on the boat, one short handle-4ft, one long handle-7ft+3. The short one is a Pro Bass Stalker model, the long one is a Beckman. Both are wide hoops and net is coated. I use the short one when out by myself or as a secondary net. The long on is my main net. The Beckman is more expensive and heavier but a much nicer net. The handle is aluminum and adjusts from 7 to 10ft if needed.

  4. I'm thinking about getting a couple of these rods. Currently my dipsys are 7 ft rods, my coppers are on 9.5 ft rods and my lead lines are on 8.5 ft rods. I was thinking these 8.5 ft rods would fit better than the longer 9.5 ft rods. Has anyone used them? Likes/dislikes? Do they have a fast tip? Do they have nice parabolic bend? Best price?

    Thanks

  5. Rut Roh Raggy!

Welcome to the world of open water fishing. Watch the reports from the guys fishing out of Holland, they won't steer you wrong. Don't worry about the fish, they'll come. As far as the "face plant on the fish" it happens to the best of us. My dad likes to say he was saving the lure by beating the fish on the nose, now that's a fish story. Not a bad first trip, you didn't sink, didn't need a tow and all hands made it back safe.
