  1. Well, we bumbled around again last night starting at 120 out to 210 and back. Had absolutely nothing on the trip out. Picked up a small shaker at 201 on a blue dolphin 75 down on a rigger. Dad released it along with the contents of his shirt pocket- glasses in a case, pencil, receipt, 8GB sd card. Looped around to find the glasses and receipt but no pencil or sd card. If you find a card out there let me know :o Anyway, we made it in to 118 fow and picked up a nice 15# king. It hit our dipsy 150 back pulling a no see um fly. :thumb:

I don't know if it's me or not, but we are not finding the fish real well this year. Anyone else fishing Grand Haven? Similar results?

  2. Doesn't matter what depth, they're everywhere. Get some flea flicker line by cortland. Use it for your downrigger lines. I bought 300 yds and split it between 2 reels with regular mono backing. Nothing on my lines since I changed. It's total Awesome Stuff! A little expensive. Cold Water tackle had best price I found.

As far as when they go away- end of July first part of August.

  3. Headed out to 120 fow at 6:30 last night. Took a laker on blue dolphin down 75 on a rigger. Doubled on both riggers (blue dolphin and mongolian beef) while resetting copper. Landed small dink and the other took out the leadcore and copper being reset and lost it 10-15 ft from the boat, 5-7lber. Took another hit on the dipsy landing a small king. 3 for 4, not bad but not real big fish. It was a bit bumpy out there but not terrible.

  4. Headed out around 6 last night. Fished 120-220 fow. Had a hard time finding anything out there. Saw a few bait pods but that was about it. We had 1 hit in 196 fow. Dipsy 125 ft back on a 1.5 setting pulling a polar ice fly took a 8# king. Took a second king in 120 fow on a dipsy 150 ft back pulling a no see um fly, 13#. Ended the night a little early due to family coming in. Hopefully we'll have a better report for the next trip out.

  5. Went out with Mom and Dad last night. Got on the water about six and fished until ten. Still really slow. I heard a couple fish caught in the 200 ft range but not a lot of action. Our fish came on a blue buble flasher with a polar ice fly off a wire dipsy 125ft back. The 15# king hit in 123 fow. We had a couple more releases like the other night so I think the 12-14 inchers are still in the area. Hopefully the June swoon is close to ending.

  6. I'm sitting here watching the waves in the bayou and I got to thinking. How long does it take for the lake to setup? Does it take a couple of days with the wind coming in from the right direction? Is it a week? I don't recall if the lake ever setup last year. Maybe I don't know what the lake would look like setup. :o

What would you say it means when the lake is setup? How would you describe it?

  7. Decided to try our luck again last night. Headed out to 120 fow and set up going south. Fished 120 to 130 on north south trolls picking up a laker and 3 kings. 2 of the kings were only 12-14 in and were returned to the lake. We also had a quick rip on the diver as well as 2 short hits on riggers. We think it was the same size kings, mouths barely big enough to get the hooks in. So we came home with 2 but I guess you could say we were 4 for 7. Blue dolphin mag on rigger 110 down, blue bubble flasher w/ polar ice fly on dipsy 180 back, flounder pounder 300 #45 copper, and mongolian beef on rigger 90 down were the active participants last night.

    Just a side note-

Sea fleas got us good the other night so I brought out the flea flicker line last night. This is the first time I used it and boy was I impressed. Zero flea issues. :thumb: I had 12 inches of fleas on my wire divers when I brought them in, nothing on the rigger lines. Should have bought it sooner.

  8. Like everyone else, Grand Haven fishing over the last week or so has really stunk. Decided to burn some gas last night to see if we could get the smell of skunk out of the box. We started in 80fow, temp 63 @ 60ft, headed west. Trolled out to 200ft with no action. Came back in to 120ft, no action. Headed a little deeper and finally hooked into one. 100ft down, 125 fow, on a blue dolphin. It tried to get off by going into the dipsy, so I brought that in to find a shaker attached, drowned. So we got two. 1-2#, 1-15#. Finally something positive to report. Let hope the lake sets up and we can have more production.

  9. I just picked up a used Shimano 800(no LC) and was wondering what to look for when cleaning it. It looks like its been well used, but not recently. There is some grime and junk on the levelwind guide rod. It appears to be from dust geting in the grease and a spider nest. The rest of my reels are Okumas, so I wondering what might be lying in wait in this reel. Any problems that have been occuring with the Tekota's I should look for? Any problems with certain parts wearing or breaking that I should check?

Also, I'm wondering what I should put on it? I have several of reels with copper and several with leadcore. What setup is best for this reel? I currently have 2-300' 45#cu, 1-300' 32#cu, 1-150' 45#cu, 2-full core, 2-7 color, 1-5color, 4-4 color, 1-2 color, 1-1 color

    Thanks for the thoughts,
