  1. A warm welcome 2 U MP. I fish the Saginaw Bay, and Lake Huron for Walleye, Perch, Steelhead, and Browns. I do make as many trips as I can L8 July and August to Manistee MI to fish for Kings. My brother fishes the MI and near OH Lake Erie waters for Walleye. His handle is "Fish Hook", and has a 26 foot Sea-Ray. COME ON SPRING.

  2. GJ Capt. Dan. Be careful out there.

I feel a whole lot better with a boat under my A$$. As you well know, the Saginaw Bay gets under estimated so many times, by unsuspecting novices, as well as over anxious pros. This relatively shallow bay can produce huge waves, that are so close together, it quickly becomes unnavigable for the small craft. The offshore wind is always a threat to the ice anglers. A compass, Rope, GPS, Cell Phone, and signal flares, are a must on the ice.

I know that no one respects the Saginaw Bay more than Capt. Dan.

This trip was my best in 06 for a couple of reasons. It was my grandson's first Salmon Fishing trip. We lost some nice fish trying to get Jacob to catch the first one. :) LOL I think he's hooked. He keeps talking about Manistee in August of 07. We did manage some VN fish, and Jacob knows there is more to fishing than catching fish.

This trip was also my brother Jack's last fishing trip. I was with him on his first, and last fishing trip, and a quite a few in between 1947-2007. See you L8r Big Jack.

  4. I agree with you 100% Cazz. I started using 30# Spider Wire Fusion braid 6 or 7 years ago on my Dipsys. The main reason was for ease of tripping. I have found that Snubbers are even more important, using the low stretch braid. I also set the drag a lot lighter, just tight enough to keep the line from spooling out when set in the holders. I use the Dipsys as my low divers.

I Use Slide Divers as my high divers with 25# Ande Mono on them.

  5. I would go with 4 foot booms. The 3 riggers that you are planning to install, is exactly the way I would set up a new boat. The Less is More theory. 27 foot Sea-Ray nice ride. You can tell where the money is. LOL:)

I have 4 electric Cannons but seldom use the inside ones. When the rigger bite is hot, I'll have all four in the water. I bend the fins on the outside rigger Balls, so the balls track out away from the boat. I use the 10# Pancakes. My 22 footer only has an 8 foot beam, and no problems with tangles even in the roughest weather, with 4 riggers down.

I know you always gave good advice on the MS site. I try to do the same. Hope to see you on the big pond. I fish mostly out of AuGres, but follow the action. I used to fish the Tittabawasse and Upper Saginaw river a lot, but lately it's just warm weather fishing on the bay and as many trips to Manistee in late July and August as I can get away with. LOL:) Again WELCOME

  7. Have you read this thread Frank? Its an article about glow in the dark paints.

Yes, Mike I did read that thread. I was doing some research on the stuff before and at the time of your thread. Most of the sites that had the glow powder were selling it for $60-$70/# The same company that I posted the link for had the green stuff on sale around the holidays for $15 per 1/2#. That's when I thought I would give it a whirl. I had the stuff for a month but just tried it out on some spoons. I was impressed.

  8. I always check my line and strip off the bad stuff. If my spool is getting down there the line gets changed.

After running one season if the spool is still close to full, I reverse it. Check the first 20 feet or so, and cut off any bad stuff. Then just reel it on to an empty reel. Two seasons at the most and it gets changed.

  9. Most GLs Fishermen have a ton of spoons that never get washed anymore. It seems that the glow spoons are the ticket. I recently bought 1/2# of super glow green powder and mixed some of it with 4 oz of clear brushing lacquer. I took several of my light colored and white back spoons and put 3 coats of this mix on them. At 70 degrees F this stuff will dry in a couple of hrs. WOW! These glow like the real deal. Adequate ventilation is a must. The busy person will probably NOT want to do this. But oldtimers like me, with more time than money, may want to try it. It's not cheap, but if you can make 25-50 dud spoons into some real producers, you may want to try it. The powder is mixed with the lacquer about 1 to 4. The powder suspends in the lacquer and has to be stirred often. Remember that the lighter color bases will glow up the best. The green glow powder has the longest glow time of all the glow powders. Here is an eBay link, to the powder.

  10. I added 4 Big Jon Rod Holders. I am also adding an 8 rod rocket launcher to the hardtop. The rocket launcher is a custom made one that will also have my 2 Halogen Fishing lights and my anchor light attached to it. I'm building it so I can just roll it down for clearance. All the SS is cut, I just have to weld it up and install it. I'm also going to convert two of my spare rods to leadcore.

  11. I have only used my inline PBs for walleye fishing. I use the Offshore brand with HD releases. A few times I have had to chase a board. TY for the rubber band trick. I have bands onboard, that I use for releases on my big boards anyway. I have also used bands for releases off the downriggers but not that often.

  12. I just added 4 Big Jon rod holders for my dipsys. John aka SD800 fixed me up with some factory seconds that look real good.

I'm also about to weld up an 8 rod SS Rocket Launcher, to go up on my HT. The Rocket Launcher will pivot down to clear my 10' high garage door. The Rocket Launcher will also have my two 55w halogen fishing lights and the anchor light mounted on it.

I will probably set up a couple of SWRs with some of my reserve rods.
