Thanks for the report. You'll get em going. The shakedown trip is all about checking things out. Now you're ready for action.

Do you prefer this type of chart and program. NO EXTRA CHARGE.
No Chips to buy, All Great Lakes Charts included.

She's a nice looking rig.

There are definitely pros and cons with Facebook feeds to forum sites.
Recently one of the feeds came from a Charter's Facebook page and it was very misleading. It involved the passing of a dear Capt. The posting came across as if it was Matt's father that had passed. I personally don't like the Facebook feeds but work with them because of the benefits they do provide. I think this example is how misleading some of these feeds can be and innocently wind up on a forum and be so far from factual. Matt made a correction and cleared it up but sometimes these feeds don't even get read by the sites that they come from. JMO

That is a deal and may work out fine for most walleye fishermen that run a few lines.
I had a couple of the 17s but later opted for the 27s. The 17s are a nice compact reel and I liked that for storage and feel. In the boat running boards I found that the small reel had one drawback, and this may not be a factor for all fishermen. The smaller spool diameter brought in less line per crank. Bringing outside boards across the others was difficult because of the slow retrieve. The 27s have the same spool diameter as the 47s and thus the same retrieve rate. Of course the 27s are not as wide as the 47s and holds less line because of the width. If you are a serious walleye planer board fisherman I'd spend a little more and get the 27s. If you only run a few lines anyway the
17s will do you fine.
I have 16 of the 27s and usually deploy 12 of them if the conditions and crew will allow it.

Kids are our future. It's always special fishing with a kid. He'll remember those special times the rest of his life.

This has all the latest Great Lakes RNC Charts installed.

Panasonic Toughbook Chartplotter GPS. Freshly installed Windows7 with Office 2007. This comes with a DC charger, AC charger, and GPS Receiver. USB, SD, WIFI, and wired internet. $400 This has been gone over inside and out. It has been sanitized. I use running water to rinse it off after cleaning. I don't recommend you do that with a ordinary laptop. This has incredible zoom feature. There is nothing like it. When zoomed in the chart numbers for depth can be seen from several feet away. Here are some screen shots. Thank You for viewing.
-
SOLD These are sold. I'll list a couple of more soon. Anyone interested please get with me. My phone# is Nine Eight Nine 362 54 Two Two.
The most important reason I like this system unlike others is the ZOOM. Most electronic charts zoom in on features but the chart numbers and depth numbers remain small. When you zoom this in the chart numbers are visible from the back of the boat.

Chris, A warm to the GLF site. I see you signed up in 2013. Once in a while we will get a report from that way. I'm looking forward to some of your reports. I hope someone chimes in with some help.

Thanks Frank. The only reason I asked is my current "main" computer is getting ready to die so I thought that I would move my current backup unit into service and then maybe get one of your units as my "backup" which is my travel computer that I use when I teach classes (scuba), short videos but no gaming. That was the only concern that I had regarding the tech specs.
Thank again. What would you be asking for the cf 31 unit you described?
The CF31 is $750. Everything about this one is super nice except for some marks on the bottom. PM me your emal address and I'll send some pics. Shipping and insurance would add another $20. I'll be gone this AM but can send pics this afternoon. I have found the a large SD card holds plenty of data behind a closed door. A Cruzer Fit USB also holds up to 64GB of data and it will fit behind the closed back door on these units. The Touighbook is all that the name implies.

One more thing I should mention on battery use. These have to be set to never sleep. Most laptops take a nap and these will also if not set right. Ya need it on all the time and that's another reason to keep it plugged in.
-
Frank, couple questions and I apologize if I missed this from another post. What are the tech specs on this/these units. Processor speed, RAM, HD size, approximate battery life. I like the idea of this but need more info.
Thanks
Gene
Gene,The specs vary from unit to unit. The one I have here now is a CF 30 MK1 in beautiful condition. I has a Intel L2400 dual core processor @1.66GHz and 1.5 GB of Memory. and a 80 GB HDD. I have others also. I have a few CF 30 MK3 with 160 GB HDD and 2 GB of memory for the same price but not quite as nice.
If you are looking for a better one I have one that is a CF 31 with 6 GB of RAM and a 360 GB HDD and a Intel core I-5 processor. The chartplotter program doesn't require a lot of resources. Also these all have SD Slots for more storage. These will handle the everyday stuff just fine but Toughbooks were not built to be gaming computers. I hope I answered all your questions. Try one on and you will like it. Chart depth numbers are about 1/2" high when zoomed in. Old eyes friendly. LOL
Battery life depends on use. I have these set to the max so to be sunlight viewable. With this setting it is recommended to stay plugged into a charger. AC and DC chargers are included. I liken the battery use to fuel use. I all depends. Of course the high brightness can be toned down when inside.

One is still available.
-
There is still one available. One gentleman is going to upgrade to a different model.
-
Frank,
is one still available for me? I think I would like one.
Andrew, Yes there is one left with your name on it. I'll PM you my phone number and email address.
-
Bob, She looks good.

Mike, Technology is GRRRR8. There are so many walleye in the Bay you will not know which way to turn with that high tech gizmo. They're under the boat and off to the right no over to the left. I know it will be a handy tool in your capable hands.

Check and change the spark plugs after burning off the fog oil. Bring the engine up to temp and observe the gauges. I can see on the temp gauge when the T. Stat opens and closes. Make sure all the safety stuff is onboard and up to date.
