Unfortunately I couldn't get Ken to buy me anything. I talked to him and Jon, Mark and Kevin. I will say that the shoulder is very sore today, but I didn't notice it last night. Must have been to excited.

We had a great time. Great bargain for $10. Talked to the guys at Canvas Innovations about some custom board/dipsey holders. Captain George Freeman of Free Style charters gave me some info on Ludington, talked to Fish Hawk about the new X-4D, got a free Big Weenie meat head from Phil and instructions on how to run it. Oh, if anyone is interested in shorter copper rods the Okuma rep told me about a saltwater rod that is the same as their copper rod but comes in 7'6". I like the new yellow releases from Church for their planer boards, plan on trying those out. And won a $50 gift certificate for Morgan's Copper from Lakeshore. It was worth the drive. I know we picked up a couple of tricks from Captain Brian during his talk. Now we just need spring to get here.

Good luck Matt! You should have a lot of GLF company to the north and south.

I'm jealous! Good job!

My dad caught the brown on this page:
in the spring off a meat rig over 10 years ago. We were fishing with Ed Stell and I think it was just a 3 fly teaser and meat head, no flasher. So they will work in the spring.

Thanks again Rob. And thanks for the offer Tony but I'd like to get one so I can measure backer for other rods, too. Now I always have to spool it on backwards and then re-spool. Very time consuming.

Thanks Rob, thats kind of what I was thinking but wasn't sure about 32# versus 45#.

Since so many of you are copper lovers I want to experiment running copper on one side of the boat and lead on the other. I am keeping my 300' but plan on spooling the rest up new with 45# copper and want them to run the same as my 10 color, 7 color and 5 color. What lengths do I need to run these depths.

I know there was a post about using an add on line counter when filling reels off bulk spools. If I remember correctly there are a couple but only one works for copper. Can someone tell me which one works for copper?
Thanks,
Nick

i guess im just the hillbilly repairman. i just filled all my extra holes with 100% silicone rubber. it seals good and hasnt come loose yet. i dont know anything about using epoxies on a boat.
and by the way im not making fun of hillbillies, i are one. i grew up in the hills of tenn and have always been proud to call myself a hillbilly,LOL. as a matter of fact i am in tenn right now visiting family.

You just want to make sure its uv resistant silicone. And marine is even better.

Ben, I used the epoxy repair kit and it worked ok. If you really want it to look good and match the rest of the boat talk to Bowker's in Zeeland. I had them fix some other areas on my boat and it looked good and the price was reasonable.

Welcome Herb! It might help out if you fill out your profile of where you live/fish. Then guys will be able to give you better info to your specific location. And feel free to ask any questions, the people here are always willing to help.

Welcome aboard and good luck. You must be excited.

I am going to dispose of a bunch of spoons and flies and add a few back to get down to 1-2 brands and a few basic colors and then learn how to run them. I'm trying to simplify things since I have gotten out less the last few years. I added a couple new reels and might add one or two more. Want to add another copper rod. I am going to add the new Fish hawk X-4D but right now I'm contemplating the new Garmin 740s since it's on sale in March and there is a big rebate for the chart chip. Other than that I need to wheel out the small oxidation spots I have, do a thorough cleaning and do some organizing. Oh, and I will be doing most of it one-handed since I am having shoulder surgery on friday.
-
Welcome Rob, let us know if you need anything.

I was thinking about ordering some of these but haven't run any. Do you guys that have run them have some suggestions as to favorites? Thanks

I'm shooting for Good Friday but it may not happen.

Welcome and I also can feel the spring fever coming on.

Welcome Matt!

I'll be there.

Thanks for the help guys. I tried resetting the breaker in the basement and it didn't help. I haven't had time to dig into it further, I've been working 16 hours a day most of the week. I'll look into it a little closer next week when I have some time. And thanks for the offer Dan, I might have to take you up on it if I can't figure it out.

I noticed they have teaser flys tied onto the line in front of the actual fly with the hook. Where are these available? I have been looking all over the web for them, but haven't found anything yet.
Check out Big Weenie. I know he sells teaser rigs.

I think Ryan covered it so Welcome Robert!

I'm going to have the new Fish Hawk X-4D installed, hopefully next month. I'll be sure to post a report on how it works.
Flare gun v Flare signal

Ken, you can always just replace one and then keep the other expired flares. I keep my old flares on board as back-up and keep the new ones close at hand. I on;y have hand-held but might add a gun, also.
