  1. Nice job Frank, you've had an excellent season!
  2. It's surprising Frank just how many don't use down rods. I use them at the front of the spread and off to the side. Other guys I've seen go off the back and straight down. By going off the side my wife or kids can work a rod keeping them busy and in doing so work different speeds and depths with the harness. A lot of times it will clue me in to what I need to change with the overall presentation.
  3. Back on the Bay today after a two week break. Nothing has changed, we picked up a quick two man limit fishing south of Pt Augres. We concentrated on the same contour as our last trip in 31 ft of water. Trolled north with the wind at 1.3 mph. It was apparent early that two colors of harnesses were producing. The alewive and sunrise from northland tackle. A lot of 16 to 17 inch fish early on. After bumping the speed up to 1.5 we picked up several in the 18 to 24 inch range. It's been a great season on the Bay!
  4. Fished Friday east of the shipping channel in 29 to 33 foot of water. We pulled a three man limit in short order and hauled in close to fifty eyes for the day. Probably the best day I've seen. Many times we had triples and all too often couldn't keep a line in the water. Running four inline boards with 2oz bb with harnesses and two down rods with 3oz bb. Any more lines would have been too stressful. Saturday headed out with a goal of ten fish plus three for a gentleman at the campground. Fishing was slower as the water was real calm. On our last pass the wind picked up and the bigger fish started to bite. Finished out with our goal working close to the same area but concentrated on a contour of 30 to 31 foot of water. Made the bumpy eleven mile trip back then waited close to an hour in the river for all the Doc Harpham tourney boats. Sun burns and fun was had by all of my crew!
  5. Nice job Jason. We too competed in the fireman's tourney. We had similar results with lots of fish. Put 10 in the box by 10 am then started trying to upgrade. We fished 8 miles to the south of AuGres at one point and trolled east with the wind. Found some bigger fish there but nothing near 5 lbs that it would have taken to compete. Then the wind switched and things got slow. Our biggest was 3 lbs with a total of 11.91. I wish I knew where they pulled that 22 lb basket from. It was a beautiful day on the bay
  6. Does anyone have info or know where I can find info on the AuGres Sims Whitney Fire Department Walleye Tournament. It is scheduled for the 14th of June out of AuGres. Thanks

  9. First trip to the bay this year. Picked up thirteen eyes ranging from 17 to 24 inches. Fished in 24 to 26 ft of water pulling BBs and harnesses between the two points. It was slow going at first till we located two pods of fish. The slower we went the better 1.0 to 1.2 and every time we made a turn inside boards were hit. Didn't see many other guys netting fish around us but then again they were all cruising right along. Firetiger was a consistent color blade. Sorry for the late report.
  10. Tom it would depend on what species of fish you intend to target. There has been a huge milfoil problem the last few years. Small pike are plentiful and occasionally you can find crappies and gills. I gave up ice fishing Lake Cadillac and only fish it during open water if I want a quick trip out with the family. I can think of a lot better destinations I would try first. Good luck.
  11. I would take you up on that if I wasn't on the other side of the state. What a great opportunity to learn the bay. The trips I made through June and July bout emptied the bank account, but worth every penney! I'll be watching Frank to see if you need a passenger at all next year. I'm afraid I'm all done for this year...
  12. Nice job Frank. I agree, very lethargic, light biting fish. I can remember only a handful of times the board raced backward or went under like a bobber. Most of the time the tattle flags wouldn't pin back. This was the same no matter the size of fish. Very unusual. Can't wait for next year!
  13. Tried to show my mother what fishing the bay is like. Didn't want to run far so we tried a couple places we hammered fish a few weeks ago. With my wife, daughter, my mother, and I, went straight out to 33 ft of water. Fished for four solid hours in heat and bugs and caught two barely legal fish and two throwbacks. Tried a bunch of different things all with BB and meat, to no avail. Don't know if I had gasoline on my fingers or what, but couldn't get em to bite. Needless to say no one in my crew is jumping up to go out today. Will be making a longer run today, might be the last trip for the year.
  14. Forecast doesn't look good for Friday. I wish I could give you a honey hole that's a short run. Struck out yesterday fishing closer to AuGres between the points where we caught fish in June (32 - 33 ft of water) because I had family on board for a quick trip. Some of the other guys may attest to it, but seems like the fish have headed further out requiring long runs to the fish. Good luck, be safe!
  15. Made the long run to the same area of water we fished on Friday. Got a late start, 6 pm. No boats around except for the tall ships heading out across the bay. Our goal was ten keepers between the wife, kids, and I. By 8 pm we had our ten and were able to do some sorting too. Majority were 16 to 20 with a few 22 to 24 inches. Same program, 1.2 to 1.4, 26 to 27 ft of water, northland tackle harnesses in sunrise and alewive colors were best. More throwbacks this trip. Heading out again tomorrow am. Thinkings Charities for a change. I'd post pics but I don't think I'm allowed to as a rookie to the site?
  16. Fished between the two points out of AuGres for the last month, frustrated with all the throwbacks decided to make a long run today. South of Pt AuGres, 27 ft of water, found better fish. Two man limit in just over an hour with far fewer throwbacks. 1.3 - 1.4 mph, 2 oz bb and meat, chartreuse and antifreeze were hot colors, again.....
  17. Thanks for the report, nice job guys. Must be an orchestrated chaos when multiple rods go off with all those lines. More experience is what my crew needs...
  18. Nice job chummer on the fish. Saw you pulling in as we were loading Saturday afternoon. It sure was hot. With the size of your outfit you must have more patience than me, that launch is nuts on weekends.
