  1. Mike,

If you cannot find a date maybe we can work something out on one of my tournament dates together. Probly the better place to run a tournament that we all can get together and have a cook out and talk more would be at Muskegon. We can use everyone in the league and plus more if they like to join us that day to. I think everyone in the league would go with this just for one time. This will still count for the August league day tournament and I would have to keep the points for everyone. We will have to get together and make up some rules together so I can let everyone in the league know way ahead. Just think about it.

Just trying to help a friend out,

    Rich

  2. Mike,

Don't give up your tournament just because I put on a vote over some isue on tournaments. All it was was just a posting that I had been thinking about for sometime. What you think I was going to do, stop all the big tournaments to use cut bait. Man you must think Im bigger than the pres. :D

  3. Yes I better let this ? go now. I hope I didnt make anyone mad about me asking this ? about fishing with cut bait in tournaments. The cut bait ? was for big tournaments and not our league tournaments at all. I am talking about tournaments that cost boats $300.00 and more. Our little $15.00 a boats is to have fun and get together with friends.

I have more ? about tournaments but will not ask no more.:D

You all have a great time and hope we can soon all go out fishing on the big lake again soon.

  4. Mark,

Like I said I do not have nothing against cut bait if it will help fishermen catch there fish. Just thought it would be nice to see it be lures only in tournaments. You also said something about police it in the tournamnets. So does this mean that people wouldn't be honest if there was no cut bait rule if there was such a rule in big tournaments. So then how would you run a no cull rule in a tournament then if it isn't police.

I am not banning wire either. This is just a friendly ? what I have been thinking about.

  5. 12# round balls on the inside riggers.

10# fish shaped weights on the outdowns. I have bent the tail on each side so they pull to the outside a little to keep a cleaner spread.

    Dave

I use to run fish weights on my outside riggers. But I didn't like the 10# fish weights so then I went to 12# balls. Do they sell any 12# fish weights. I like the fish weights better than the balls for the outside riggers.

  6. Yes Mark is right,

This is a great way to catch alot of salmon fishing in deep water. But make darn sure that you have that running on your deepest downrigger or else you will get tangled up. You also have to watch what you run next to it also. I ran a fish catcher next to it one day and oh my god. It was a mess. Then you will have to cut it all up and start your SWR rod all over again.

  7. Well this took me awhile to think about but what I have learned in this type of fishing is that it is exspensive. I have been doing this type of fishing in a boat since I was probly 25 years old. I started learning with my dad and then going on my dads friends charter boat in Manistee. Well the first thing that I learned is not to get cheap equpment like what I did, alls you will do is trash the cheap stuff later and buy your self the best stuff. While you are fishing with friends start and buy your stuff little bit at a time while still learning how to fish this way. Then you can go out and buy the best things for you to fish with. I started out with walker mannual downriggers and now wished that I have got power downriggers. Them hand cranks are a pain in the a:eek:  to crank back up when fishing deep. Also while learning how to fish this way is what kind of boat do you want and need. I learned alot on my first boat that I a big mistake by buying. My first boat was a 16' Sylvan with a 40hpr motor. That boat didnt have a widsheild, the boat was to small, and didnt have enough power to get me off that lake fast enough just in case of a storm was coming. Make sure your boat that you will want has a full windsheild, lots of power to get you off that lake if needed, a good trailer to is a big thing, and the last thing is a big enough boat to feel safe fishing in.

1st thing is a boat ( my choice)

    17' Lund with a 115- 4 stroke and a Eagle trailer

Cost- $24.000.... WOW Better start saving

2nd thing is power downriggers (my choice)

Walker power downriggers with 2 rod holders

    Cost- $800.00 maybe?

3rd thing is cannon balls (my choice)

12lb. balls- have a friend off the web site make you some and it will be alot cheaper for you than buying them.

4th thing is a downrigger board

I had Trout Tracker make mine and it cost me $300.00 but I will not lose my downriggers off a snag in the big lake. Such as a indian net out there.

5th thing now are your downrigger rods ( my choice)

Start out with 2- 8' Heartland downrigger rods with Okuma Convector 30's for your reels.

    Cost is- $85.00 each

6th thing is Dipsey rods ( my choice is)

start out with 2- 9.5' Hearland dipsey diver rods with Okuma Convector 45 reels.

    Cost is- $85.00 each

7th thing is Fishing line ( my chopice is)

20# Maxima for your downriggers and 30# Maxima for your dipsey reels.

Cost- $75.00 for each big spool

    8th thing is your lures

12 dozen reg. size Dreamweaver spoons $32.00 at the fishing shows

12 Dozen Mag Dreamweaver Spoons $36.00 at the fishing shows.

    2- Dipsey divers- Size 1 $9.00 each

    2- Spin doctors - 8" size $11.00 each

12 dozen flies - Make your own for really cheap

9th thing is a fishing net

    Cost- $32.00 ? for a exstended handle

10th thing is a big cooler for your fish

    Cost- $40.00 at Sams club

11th thing is a fish finder and a marine radio

Fish finder- What ever brand you want $600.00

Marine radio with antenna and mount- Brand ? $100.00

    12th thing is a must

    GPS- cost $300.00 hand held

This is all what you should start out with if you want to fish on the big lake. Remember not to buy cheap fishing gear because at the end you will get rid of the cheap stuff and buy the better stuff later.

There is so much you can use now to catch fish that it isn't funny no more. Such as Downrigger rods, Dipsey rods, wire rods, lead core (full), half core, SWR rods, planner board rods. Its hard to make a choice what to use anymore.

  8. Try and get a good days catch of salmon so you can get the canner good and full. Also after you clean your fish make sure you rinse the meat good.

1- Cut Salmon meat into 1'' chunks

2- Put chunks of Salmon and fill your PINT size jars(Do not fill to full)

3- Put in 1 teas spoon of salt in your filled up jar of fish.

    4- Boil your lids

5- After you boil your lids place them on your jar and tighten jar down.

6- Fill your canner up with your jars of fish

7- Then put water in your canner and fill it up half way up your jars.

8- Now make sure your presure valve is open.

9- Wait till valve starts to be steaming.

10- Once valve starts to be steaming you must shut your valve.

11- Now wait till presure gets up to 10lbs.

12- Once the presure gets up to 10lbs. you now can set the timer to 90 min.

13- After timer gos off after 90 min. you will have to wait and make sure all the presure is gone from the canner.

DO NOT OPEN CANNER WHILE IT HAS PRESURE

14- Now take your jars out and wash them up and make sure they all sealed.

Hope you will enjoy your canned salmon

    Caznik the cook :D

  9. Hey Steve,

I hope you really didn't try and smell and put your tung on that cut bait. I got thinking about all the things that Marks tells what you have done in the past. You know the deal with life with Steve. Well anyways if anyone like to check out this site about cut bait. This guy on this web site really knows what cut bait does. Sounds like to me he even thinks its better than lures. Well if anyone like to check some of his stuff on his web site. The site is called www.michigansportsman.com You all probly have seen this allready. But if you have not check it out. Or check this out also. http://www.michigansportsman.com/Manistee_Master_BaiterI.htm

Like I said Steve cut bait is bait, and a lure is a lure. They are not the same to me. Thats why I think bait should not be in ant tournaments. I have nothing against with anyone fishing with it at all if it will help that fisherman fill his box. But to make all tournaments even (Tackle vs. Tackle)is the way to me that it should be done.

Guys now dont hit my boat when im fishing,
