  1. Before GPS and Subtrolls we used the whine of the rigger cables as our speed control. If the cables were singin, we were probably in the zone. If the cables were not, then speed up a bit.

Now I use several tell tales. I still use the whine of the rigger cables and I also use the bend in the dipsy rods....and I use the speed over ground of the GPS.

I havn't gotten a subtroll yet. I think I need to get Autopilot for the boat before subtroll.

But the Paddle wheels on most fishfinders are worthless...ESPECIALLY if there is current on the surface.

  2. Wife caught a big old pooper today....

I seen a fish hit the one rigger but didn't stick...So I popped it to check it and as it was floating up it was hit again, but didn't stick...I then began to crank up that rigger and the rigger on the other side of hte boat started bouncing. So I think the only action we had was a very overactive Laker.

So we boated that slimy turd dropper and then tossed it back in the water. It was 26 foot down over 60 FOW on a Bloody Tampon Stinger Spoon.

  3. Grease Ball, Mud Chicken, Greaser, Slimer, Pooper, PCB Cocktail, Dang Now I'm Pissed, Wet Sock, Nylons filled with Mudd, Water Soaked Log, POS, Laker, White Bellied Fart Knocker, = Lake Trout

Metal Head, Torpedoe, Water Walker, Silver Bullet = Steelhead

    Silver, Ho = Coho Salmon

Football, Brownie = Brown Trout (RatCityHooker Spawns his own type of Brown Trout on his boat....Something to do with a plastic bag and a downrigger cable, and a full lead core.):D

Screamer, Kingasouraus, King, Tuna, Pig, = Chinook Salmon

Hammer Handle, Snake, Gator = Northern Pike

Walley, Marble Eye, Pickeral(canadian), Green Pike(new york) = Walleye

Calico, Paper Mouth, Crappie, Slab, Dinner Plate = Speckled Bass

    Whiskers, Kitty = Catfish

That's all I can think of right now.

  4. I bought a new boat, a 24' bayliner monterey, it was winterized by a marina 2years ago and hasn't been run since. My question is should I be concerned about the fuel left in the tank? I'm sure the marina put STABIL in the tank but should I still drain the old fuel out? Thanks

I would take a sample of that gas and check the smell. If it smell varnishy then syphone and replace. Otherwise if it still smells like good gas, and the tank is not full full, then fill her up with fresh gas a bottle or two of dry gas and let her rip.

When I bought my boat it had set for about 9 years since it's last tank of gas. We pulled a bunch of gas out and it still smelt fine. We put it back in the boat and burned it...Of course it wasn't a full tank so we topped it off with new gas but it was all good.

    Good Luck.

  5. Mrs. Sixshooter and myself also putted around Port Sheldon this morning. Of course we got up much later than the crazy fellows above. We hit the lake around 8am.

    Finished 3 for 4.

2 stupid retarded poopers, mud chickens, or lakers if you will...

and 1 nice brown trout for kitty food. Kitty likes those fresh browns.

PS. I didn't land a stinkin fish today....the wife whooped up on them. GO BEVY....

  6. Do Not forget Friends that the Brown Blast is April 1st...So that means that your 2005 Fishing Licsnences have expired.

Just a friendly reminder to get your new 2006 fishing liscnece ahead of time. And if you plan to fish around the cook plant make sure your boat is up to coast guard specs....Right Larry....

  7. Actually You are correct except for Northern Pike Levi. The daily Limit on Northerns now is 2 per day.

But all the same you are right.

I'm with you on this Sixshooter.

I just want to know what of our many species have a five fish limit now?

    1.Walleye

    2. Northern Pike

    3. Smallmouth Bass

    4. Largemouth Bass

Well......hmmmmmmmmmm.....yep that's it. Seems a little funny to me that the higher limits are placed on non-renewable species that's numbers can easily be eradicated from most bodies of water if overharvested. The only one with an agressive stocking program is walleye, and then only in certain waters.

And it also seems a little premature to set these new reg's in stone for 3 seasons shortly after implementing new stocking levels on salmonoids as well as the forage base issues without seeing what happens to the fishery first. Perhaps they used the DNR crystal ball to see the future? Oops. Can't be, unless they saw the mess we are now in and just let it happen anyhow.

  8. There was an article in a newsletter I read recently. That they were going to leave the 3 fish limit in place because get this: There is a current expectation of how good the fishing is right now....People have been easily limiting out so it grows a perception. IF they move the limit back to five then the perception of how good the fishing is will no longer be there because less people will limit out.

Now if that isn't the biggest bunch of cow dung I've ever heard.

And in the same sentence they state that raising the limit to the sportfishing group will NOT effect actual salmon numbers in the lake.

So basically it is all political.

  9. Caz,

The Super J Plug will work just fine on your boat.

Otherwise yes J's work great on the full core and half cores....Especailly when the fish are begining to stage at the channels. Some guys even run flashers and flies on lead...But I don't like reeling that in so the most resistance I put on them is a Green Glow Jplug.

  10. Honestly I think you are going to be just going for a boat ride and if you hope to catch fish you may be waisting your time tomorrow...you would be better off going out on the big lake out of St Joe or something. Or finding a local lake that has open water.

The river has got to be running about 200 times it's normal flow right now and any indications of the creeks around my house lately they are choco milk stained.

But good luck if you make it out buddy.

  11. I have a very creative buddy that hooked me up with leader keepers for both my boats. Stop by sometime and I'll show them to you...>They are AWSOME.....

other than that I keep all my crawler harnesses on paint rollers...the cheap ones....

and all my flies I bought a bunch of little bags from Janns netcraft and keep them in a deep plano box such as the flie traps type box...but I use the baggies instead of the tubes....

You can buy the flie traps from our friends at The Fish Dog Company. www.fishdogco.com.
