  2. This kinda blows.. A BIG reason I liked fishing these was to get a chance to chum around with the Caz-Man for a bit and his comraderie.:( I hope he can make it back by the last event. Team Sea-Mac will still be there Jim.

I agree. I hope he can at the very least continue to fish with us in the future. But I would be suprised to see him fishing this year anymore. But if somebody asked him to fish with them he may be able to do that. Might be worth a shot if anybody has a spot for him.

But until then Just keep the man in your prayers.

If I find out he is going to be able to fish with us then I will let everybody know.

  4. Couple questions:

Do we have to check in before the tournament?

Do we receive the zip ties at the weigh in when we pay?

We do not require a check in before the tournement UNLESS you are not going to be there. Trying to keep this a in-good-faith event. I do however fully expect if you are on the list to fish that you will pay the entry fee.

I don't want to have an instance that somebody signs up to play but doesn't do well fishing and decides they aren't going to come back for the weigh in and stiffs all the people that played by the rules. If this type of thing happens then the offender will be asked not to come back.

And the zip ties you will get when you pay.

  5. 2008 West Michigans Fishing League Classic and the Battle Of The Leagues (DBL. Event)

    Port: Muskegon Michigan

    Sunday August 10th

    Blow Date: Sunday August 24th

    Where: Fisherman's Landing

    Fishing starts at 5am - 11am

Weigh In: Will be held at Fisherman's Landing

    Anyone Can Sign Up Here

    New Rules for this event!

    The Classic Rule's

1- Entry Fees. Cost is $15.00 a boat.($5.00 of it goes towards big fish) This is PER EVENT. This is a double Event so it will be double the money. so it will be 15 dollars for each event.

1a- If you are on the list to fish you are expected to pay. If you cannot make the event then you are required to PM me and get removed from the list or call me before 5am the morning of the tourney. If you do NOT pay and you are on the list you are DQed and we will ask you not to come back. Remember this is all in good fun and we ask that everybody be honest about what we are doing. We do NOT want people to go out fishing and figure they didn't have a great day and then just go home without paying to play.

2- All fishing events start at 5 am and must pull lines at 11am.

3- Weigh in starts at 12:30(If you get called two times at the weigh in and you are not there. You will be DQed)

4- No More than 6 Rods in the water at a Time.

5- 2-4 Man teams(If you have 4 or more fishermen in your boat as a team you can only catch a 3 MAN LIMIT)

6- Weigh in 6 fish of any kind (Salmon, Coho, Steelheads, Browns, and Lakers) weigh in 3 fish for the 3rd event and weigh in 3 fish for the 4th event. The fish you weigh in for the 3rd event will have to have zip ties on the fish and the 4th event fish will not have zip ties on the fish.

7-Make sure when you weigh your big fish for the big fish prize money that you know what fish is your biggest.(NO CHECKING AT THE SCALES)

8-NO - CULL RULE- If you NET the Fish you KEEP the fish. And certainly if you box the fish you KEEP the fish.

8a- If you catch a shaker or do boat side releases without the net then you are not obligated to keep the fish. But PLEASE use good ethics, if the fish is dead or going to die please use your best judgement. Obviously undersized fish get thrown back regardless.

    Fish points:

    1- Browns= 20 pts.

    2- Steelheads= 15 pts.

    3- Kings= 10 pts

    4- Coho's= 5 pts.

    5- Laker's= 0 pts.

BONUS points- Any fish that has a clipped anipost fin(that is the fin by the tail) will receive 5 bonus points...smile.gif

Plus 1 point per pound for all your fished weighed in.

    Most Important Rule

    1. This is a FUN tournament. We ask people to share fishing tips on the radio (Channel 72). Please keep your comments at a PG rating. This is a family orientated event.

    More Rule's

This is how the storm and wind warnings are going to work. All tournaments must be fished till 8am. If everyone is called back to shore because of any kind of storm warnings before 8am then the tournament will be called off till the blow date. You can either get you entry fee back or I can hold it till the next tournament. Every captain must make sure there radio is working on channel 72 or if it’s looking like the weather is getting to be questionable. Captains better make sure you have a cell phone to call any captain to see what’s going on. The weather man may call the weather nice the day before, but you never know what may happen on the day of the tournament.

Big Fish Game Big Fish leader= Ramble On- 12lb. King

Each captain will have to put in $10.00 to enter the Big Fish Game. You only have to put in one time only and that is it. You will have to pay me before you go out fishing and not at the weigh in. Any captain that wants to fish any of these tournaments can get in this fun game even though you just happen to sign up latter on.(BUT YOU CANNOT SIGN UP FOR THIS IN THE LAST EVENT) Now how this will work is the captain that has the BIGGEST fish of the year will win all the cash. If you cannot make the last event, I will send you a check.

    Good luck captains…

Siggs Rigs Fly Sponsor Game Siggs Rigs Leader= Team Nailer- 9.4lb. King

  6. Rich,

The coasties will tow. That is a myth for some reason.

If you run into trouble and you cannot get a helpful person on the water to give you a hand then you turn your radio to channel 16 and radio for the coast guard. DO NOT USE MAYDAY however unless it is an emergency such as a physical issue (heart attack, women giving birth, or boat sinking or on fire).

The Coast guard will most likely come out to assist. But they may at that point call for a professional marine tow service. I know Muskegon Lake has one or two and I'm sure Grand Haven has a couple.

But the coast guard capt will make the call on whether to tow you to the nearest port or to turn you over. Most of the time they turn you over to the tow service and it may cost you a few bucks.

I'm not sure where this rumor got started that the coast guard will not assist in a stalled condition.

  7. when I'm in the little boat I just switch the trolling motor battery with the starting battery and get her going.

On the big boat, I borrow a battery from Mark at the dock and get the boat started then hook my batteries back up and let the alternator charge them while fishing.

Otherwise I do believe they make a set of jumper cables that are 20+ foot long that work fine.

And like has been mentioned the jump packs are awsome. I should look into getting one of those.

Either way should NOT hurt the charging systems.

  8. The neice and nephew have life jackets they were in the pool all the time. Nephew is just over 2 and the neice is almost 4.

They are the vest style but they do have a strap that goes between the legs so they can sink out of their jackets. but it keeps them upright and they cruise around the pool doggy paddling. It is quite comical and they have a ball.

Also Treblemaker has a sweet lifejacket for his son that has a handle on the collar. So you can just grab the handle and pull the kid out of the water if required. Perhaps PM him and see what kind that is.

    -Jim

  9. May have been mentioned before. But I don't want to put very much pressure on the person I take fishing ESPECIALLY if they are new to the activity.

What I try and do is when I drop the speed down to start trolling I know in my boat about how much the boat will slow down when I start dragging stuff. For my little boat I usually set it up so we start out around 3.2 to 3.5 on the GPS. Then as I set lines the boat will usually fall into the 2.5 to 2.8mph over ground speed.

Throttles on my boat are very touch and can be a discouregment from having fun.

As far as going straight. The easiest way to do such is to go with the waves till you get your stuff set. minimal stearing at that point. Both my boats will hold course nearly effortlessley with the waves. Otherwise if you just pick a compass heading and tell them to go that way things seem to work pretty good. Or while i'm back setting lines you can see if they are turning or not by the downrigger cables and or dipsies. And you can have them make adjustments as you are setting lines.

My crew will often hear me say, give me a little more left. or Righ or so on.

But remember to give them the directions in their left and right and not your left and right. They are looking forward and you are looking backward and left and right are total opposite of each other.

  10. First I want to congradulate Team Dirty Dog on the outstanding year of fishing. The team that deserved to win, won.

You are more than welcome Alex and Team Hollandpiper. Every once in a while I show a flash of niceness....but don't get used to it. Besides I FULLY understand what it is like to be left adrift with no means to get back. So again you are more than welcome. And I would think there isn't a person in the group that wouldn't have done the same thing for anybody else.

That is what makes this special. It is a group of people fishing because the love to fish. It isn't becuase anybody is trying to get rich off the tournement winnings. I believe that most all the boats that fish these events would fish them even if there wasn't money involved, they just love to spend time and tell stories like I do.

So till next year. Hope your christmas gifts are filled with fantastic baits that catch less fish than mine next year.

    HEHHEHEHEHE:lol:

  11. Of note, the three of us boated 5 Kings, 2 Coho, and one (as GLF put it) "small" 26" 13 lb 4 oz Brown. A fun time was had for sure!!

Oh and Mike, you can reel in the next lead core...:D

    BiggestBrown.jpg

That is a nice fish Mike. When GLF starts commenting on your "small" Brown ask him how big his biggest bass in Michigan was....That ought to do it....

I'm glad you had a good time. Now we just got to get you into some whitefish this fall.
