  1. Set lines in 90 fow and began taking fish in 120 fow. Lost first 3 before boxing a 9 lb steelie. Moved in to 110 and out to 140 with no takers. Trolled a bit at 120 and boxed another steelie. Moved in to 90 and had a double on but only landed the laker, as the other fish made a birds nest out of 2 hybrid copper lines.

Finished 3 for 7, took fish in all directions, water temps 46 deg 80 feet down, 55 deg 60 feet down.

11 in UV spindoctor with Big Weenie Jon's Little Weiner off rigger 70 down and later 80 down took 2 hits. 300 copper with DW blue spatterback plug took 2 hits, 150 copper with Stingray glow Wonderbread spoon also took 2. Last hit came on 5 color but I don't know what spoon was on it because I didn't set it, no did I see it once the deluge hit.

  2. Another slow day on the lake, but at least no fog for once. Finished 4 for 4 with 2 kings early in 90 & 110 fow and 2 lakers mid-morning in 140 fow.

Kings came on braid dipsy 105 back with UV Spindoctor & Big Weenie Last Brunch fly.

Lakers came on riggers 50 & 75 down on SS Michigan Glow Frog and Stingray Glow Wonderbread.

Be back at it again Wednesday weather permitting.

  3. Was hoping to set lines early today, but with some brief disorientation outside the marina in heavy fog, decided to take a slow trip across Lake Mac. Had first hit shortly after 6 AM with 6 of 8 lines in. Hit came on rigger 30 down in 60 fow. Fish were scattered but managed 7 for 7 but in varying depths: 60, 70, 80, 95, 105, 117, 130, 137 fow. Key today was troll with heading 240 at 2.2 - 2.4. All hits were riggers 30 - 60 down except one dipsey with white/glow spindoctor and green fly. First 4 were kings, last 3 were coho in deeper water. All rigger hits were on spoons: DW Alygator, Stinger Green Slurpee, SS orange yellow that is once again nameless, and SS Michigan Glow Frog.

  4. Tough, buggy, foggy fishing out of Holland this morning.

Set lines in 100' and had 2 hits, landing 1, on riggers 40 and 60 down in 130 fow with Moonshine Agent Orange and whatever yellow and orange Silver Streak was given out at the WMFL tournament yesterday. Since there was no name on the package and I couldn't find it on the Silver Streak Website, it will henceforth be known as:

    My Eyes! My Eyes! :D

A couple hours later, in 170 fow, picked up 2 more steelhead on braid dipsey 140 back with my favorite UV Spindoctor/Big Weenine Last Brunch combo. Missing half its tinsel and the single hook is gold instead of red now, but it still catches fish.

  5. Spent all morning back and forth between 100-150. Lots of marks but little to show for 4 1/2 hours trolling. Changed speeds, changed direction, changed lures, changed depth, changed spread. Finally decided to creep out a bit more on west troll and finally started taking fish at 160 and relatively steady out to 190. Finally turned around at 200 and pulled lines back in 180. Finished 4 for 4, 3 kings and a coho.

300 copper with Captain's Choice Michigan Shiner plug.

Braid dipsey back 180 with white/crush Spindoctor and green fly, took 2

Braid dipsey back 140 with UV Spindoctor and Big Weenie Last Brunch

  6. I've only had swivel fail once (that I can remember) since I've been fishing. I use either Sampo's or Torpedo ball bearing swivels of varying sizes. The only time the swivel failed the wire was bent all out of kilter. If you didn't get swivel back more likely either knot failed or you had nick in the line above swivel.

I've never been spooled or even come close despite a number of 20+ lb'ers last year. Usually just slowly and gradually tighten drag making it harder to run. I'd rather have breakoff and lose part or my line than breakoff at spool and loose all my line.

  7. Fishing not on fire but not too bad for June fishing this morning, 5 for 7 with 4 kings and a coho.

Set lines in 90 fow and began trolling WNW. Finally got some action missing 2 on 5 color UV wonderbread then hitting and landing a triple in 140 fow.

6 lb king on rigger 35 down DW The Producer spoon, 16 lb king on braid dipsey set to 3 75 back with UV Spindoctor with Big Weenie Last Brunch fly and Sexy Veggies on 7 color. 3 lb king took the 7 color into the 5 color on the opposite side of the boat so spent some time dealing with the mess. 2.9 at the ball was trolling speed.

Turned around south trying to get back through that area but traffic wouldn't allow. Did manage to hit another king on 150 copper with 3 Days at Sea DW spoon in 135 fow. Speed was 2.4 at ball.

Water had been 53 deg surface, 46 deg 35 down and 42 deg 55 down all morning from 90 fow to 140 fow. Things really slowed down when the probe at 35 down started creeping up into the 50's. Was able to find similar temps after turning west on WNW troll again in 175 fow and promptly took a coho on 5 color with Sexy Veggies.

  8. Toss it! Not worth getting sick over. If if was in the freezer the whole time it'd be good.

Go ahead and give it a taste test. If it was smoked in sanitary fashion, it shouldn't make you sick. If it does, you would probably have gotten sick if you ate it last Fall. Most likely if its bad it'll just taste like crap.
