  1. Workin on walkin for now but hoping to get going and have a new (old) boat ready to fish by mid April or so. Old, old boat is ready but kicker still needs the oil changed in the motor. I don't dare tell what I just did (you know), too many might think I'm nuts and they're probably right!

  2. I agree with Mike in that it sounds like you lost power to half your panel. It could be a blown or bad half of the 220 breaker that feeds it or somewhere between that 220 breaker and the panel with the trouble. Even if the 220 breaker feeding it looks like its on, trip it all the way off and reset it is the easiest thing to try first. You (if your able, don't mess in a panel if your not capable)) can test each side of the breaker for power. You can also test inside the troubled panel to see if both sides of the 220 line coming in have power then you should have it narrowed down to where the issue is.

  3. Early a mixed veggie on a 7 color was so hot I didn't dare take it off the worthless rod and reel it was on even though it was a pain to reel in. Mid summer there was a little while when some big kings came in to 50' and a spoon like an Old yeller was incredible. It was mostly chrome or silver with a slim yellow side bar. Later midsummer it seemed like most things worked till it slowed mid August when that real cold water blew in.

  4. I fear that like other government agencies that are in need of funds that an unspoken reality is that the government is seeking funding any way it can. I believe they should be very slow on stopping people just to inspect and should have valid reason most times. Let them inspect in the parking lot or at the ramp. Stoping guys while fishing is uncalled for unless they have good reason a violation is taking place.

That being spoken boaters need to not give them reason to suspect everyone and obey the rules and be safe.

  5. I just received my ST1000 meant for sailboats but another guy told me how he rigged it up to a kicker and I'm going to try it as well. Its 400.00 so its a lot less but needs a little ingenuity to set up. Its very doable. It may be a month or so before I get at to set it up though. I see your not too far away and can stop by and take a look if you want or just google it, I found a video of a similar installation online. It just has a push pull rod that works off an internal compass.

  6. I'm looking for someone to help me rig my boat and willing to reimburse your efforts. I'm not able to get in my boat yet but would like to be of as much assistance as possible. I can't take my boat anywhere yet either but its in a heated shop. The list: Fishfinder/ thru hull transducer, 2nd battery, lighting, tracks, electrical, and at the bottom of the list some cushion work maybe if $ allows. There are a few other items in the works also. If your looking for some part time work and have the skill and love working on boats or know someone who does please let me know. South of Holland area. Sorry but finances don't allow "pro" rates and this is not a pro boat. Just want to fish and already spending more than is wise. (addictions do that:eek:) Would like to do this next month (or April?) when I'm able to get around a little better but willing to work around your schedule. I normally have Wed off so thats the best day for me but have other mornings and afternoons (evenings) off as well. PM me if your interested with your requested rate and ability, exchange work for fishing, or with any other helpful info.

    Thanks

    Bob

  7. The way I see it, you can not be honest

    I'm sure Mike means can't be dis-honest

Sadly all business is this way of balance if you will. I would not go so far as to say that salesmen like this are dishonest without hearing their whole story, they may have clearly explained the choices and someone just chose a smaller motor not being able to afford a bigger one. Wise choice or not I don't know but its a choice they made and maybe next time will think differently. As was said already honest and knowledgeable companies often have a reputation that serves them well.

  8. Mostly new to me but would be interested. I work Saturdays but might be able to do the late shift depending on finish time. I would also need a crew so if anyone is interested contact me or if anyone needs a crew member I'd be interested in that also. I'm looking forward to the details. Hopefully have my Slickcraft up to speed by then.

  9. Thanks for the replys, No way can i figure out how a steelhead could smack a treble and still get off. I'll have to look for some premium sharp hooks.

One of the last steelies I boated had fought so hard it had a loose piece of bone that it had broken and had come close to ripping itself off. I think sometimes they just rip the hook loose and its not a hook itself issue. Depends on where it gets hooked. Another vote for Owners here also.

  10. OK so I'm flat on my back for a few weeks and going stir crazy. I'm making a list for things for the spring fishing show. Any ideas on must have items (setups, gear, whatever) on the list for this year or which vendors to see at the GR show? Posts or PMs appreciated. Info on boat stuff as well to set up a Slickcraft 235. I will need a couple tracks, tree's, rod holders and? Looking for stuff to pass the time. Any other posts, websites, articles etc that you found good I'd be interested in also. Had surgery on my foot and the first few weeks need to lay back with the foot up and that gets old quick so I'm looking for something to pass the time. Thankfully my son was able to hook me up on the side off my bed to get online.

Thanks for any info you have to keep me busy.

  11. Ken: I can't find a link in that post to the cannons, or are you saying just search ebay? I have found out how expensive cushions are so for now I'm just going to do a bit of repair, cleaning and maybe a bit of fabric to get by for now. I even considered just putting new plywood on one side and making it my tackle storage area

    Thanks

does anyone know if the fish on rod holders have the tip up feature?

  12. There will always be danger, there is no escaping it. Policeman have gone bad, teachers have raped students, students have brought guns, and the list goes on. A comprehensive strategy is needed and arming qualified trained school personal only makes sense to me. 2 men entering a school room with 25 kids in it armed only with knives could likely kill them all and remember what terrorists did with only box cutters. One armed pilot could have stopped it.

Sadly the many lives that are being saved by armed citizens never makes the news which may give many people a more balance perspective on the issue.

A strategy for protection at schools makes far more sense than a gun law and would be able to make a difference far quicker. If this is strictly an issue of children's safety then its by far a better idea but if it is about a social world view that seeks to take the power and control of a nation out of the citizens hands and place it into the hands of a few politicians then you will see those advocates looking only at taking away guns and not seriously providing for self defense.

I had a group of drunk young men park down the street one night and come toward my house carrying clubs looking to do harm to my son. I'll take my dog and gun any day over a 911 call when that situation arrises. Situation was avoided thankfully. If my kids were in school when something like this went down I would give anything to arm their teacher.

  13. Thanks for everyone who helped with info and Ben who even went with to help me look at a boat. I picked up a Slickcraft 235 and though its old I always thought it would be cool to own one as I used to build them. Thanks to Rob also for dealing fair with me and trust he feels the same about me. He was very helpful.

So now the fun begins as its in need of almost everything. Advice appreciated.

I hope to add a kicker, graph (either hds 8 gen2, or a bird 998 or 958). Wish list also includes rod holders/trees, maybe an arch, and some sort of speed/temp at the ball. I also want to try for some kind of autopilot and the I Pilot works great on my 18' ( 80#) but wondered about using a 101# thrust on this bigger boat.

Also would like to redo the cushions and any advice on this would be greatly appreciated as I might try to start them soon. Might take a couple years:eek: to finish but need to get started.

Thanks again-can't wait for spring :)

  14. Thanks guys. I have the orange one and it seems to work quite good at keeping a decent edge but unless I didn't spend enough time it didn't seem to help at all on the big heavy very dull kitchen knife. I think I may try the 3 pack of them for normal use and just take them to someone when they get beyond my ability to get them razor sharp.

  15. I am thinking of a new fish finder and found this one (Lowrance® HDS-7 Gen 2/StructureScan™ HD LSS-2 Combo)

I see it has a rebate up to $150.00 here; http://www.cabelas.com/assets/pdfs/lowrance_150_visa_card_rebate.pdf

My question is, is this the one for me; for 90 percent of the time Salmon fishing in Lake Mi and hopefully a little perching. Does this one qualify for the 150 rebate or only the 50

I have a Lowrance LMS 527 C which has a great GPS but not so sure of its fish finding capability. Mine has a great map system on it as well and I wondered if this one came with one and/or would the one I have work in this one.

I just don't know much about these but would like to take advantage of the rebate if this is a great unit for my uses.

    Thanks

    Other suggestions appreciated also:)
