  1. It looks a little familiar for some reason :) Thanks for posting the pictures, it gave me some good info, now I know I'm going to be in trouble when I try to launch this weekend:mad:

  2. Headed out yesterday morning with only my youngest brother Daniel on board. On a tip for Don headed north west until we hit 230 fow then we slowed down to see if there was clear water. The water was still cloudy so we kept heading west checking the water every little bit got out to 250 fow still with no clear water so decided to set lines and keep heading west. We were marking quit a bit in the top 60 ft and then stuff 100 to the bottom. I set line high for starters with the exception of one wire diver 225 back. Well that diver took the first fish and as soon as my brother started fighting that one the rigger at 40 got hit. Dan landed a nice king and mine was a lot smaller. A little later in the morning ended up moving most of our lines deeper to see if the bigger fish were hanging out below. We didn't find clean water until the end of the morning and it was farther north and inside with cloudy on the inside and outside of it. Finished around 1:00pm at 10 for 14 6 kings, 3 steel, and 1 laker  Also it was nice to be on the water with great weather and great company

    What took hits/fish:

3 color with Stinger grindstone - 1 small king

7 color with SS DW Acid Rain - 1 steel head

10 color with Raspberry Carbon Moonshine - 1 steelhead, 1 king, 1 lost steelhead

300 copper with Mag Silverstreak Hot Lobster - 2 kings

Kevorkian freeslider on rigger at 40 - 1 small king

Kevorkian fixed slider on rigger at 80 - 1 steelhead

Blue Bubble echip w/ hypnotist fly on rigger at 150 - 2 hits but no fish landed

Wirediver 225 out with Frog SD and It-l-do Yogurt fly - 1 king

Wirediver 275 out with Carmel Dolphin SD and Xtreem UV Sunshine BW fly - 1 Laker, 1 hit

  3. I normally take quads or snow machines in trade for wire rods:lol:. Just kidding, but they are expensive. A good set of Fuji Silicon Nitride guides runs about $60. Build a bullet proof handle and reel seat and before you know it, the rods price out at $200 or so depending on the blank used and other options. I have built a couple of them using the Torpedo Tip with great results. Here is one of them built for Jay D.

Hey, no issues here. I think you are asking a very reasonable price for custom rods and hopefully I can add some to my spread at some point. Now it's just not in the budget with school and such. :thumb:

  4. Any pictures of them? I bought a set of trees at the swap meet in Grandville MI last year for $75 for the pair that a guy made. They looked pretty good to begin with, but I did some work to them to make them work with my set up better (cut them down and made them swivel).

  5. If you can afford Shimonos, I'd say get them. I have the Okuma Blue diamond rods and had a couple of times this summer where the wire got along side the roller and got stuck. The Shimano rods have a lot smaller guides to keep the wire on the rollers better. I'd also be interested in Tony's (Eyefull's) non-roller wire rods. I'm not sure what they go for, but that gets rid of the whole issue of rollers, swivel tips, and all that.

  6. Dave, I agree Don's a great guy and he's given me lots of tips. I just thought I see what he had to say before I started repeating everything I heard him say. One thing I don't think he'd mind me telling is that small spoons are the way to go as we get further into fall. I was still using mostly mags last night so that got me thinking on what would have happened if I had run some minis.

    Ken,

What use is a boat if you are not going to use it? :) But really, I've been out more times this year than I have in the last 4 combined. Part of it was being able to go out in a lot more "iffy" conditions (When the fish were in the channel a month ago and there were steady 4-5 fters, I would never had risked it in the tin can) Part of it was just loving fishing and maybe skipping some other things to make it work to go. Also helps when I live close to the lake and can make it out for a few hours after work in the evenings.

  7. Made it out tonight a little after 4:30 right after the rain stopped. Started in 100 FOW heading west. Started out very slow. Was running paddles and spinnies deep on my one good rigger and the divers (marked lots of fish 80 to bottom). Couldn't get anything going. Finally took a hit on a glow Firedog JP slammer on the 5 color lead. My little brother lost that one when the steelie jumped a 50ft behind the boat. Then we didn't get anything for a long time. Finally moved the spread up a little to 60 to 70. Got a nice steelhead on the 7 color with a purple and yellow silverstreak. Then we got a king on the high diver pulling a frog SD and it-l-do yogurt fly 180ft back. Then right before sunset we got into a school of bait and hit a double while changing to the glow setup. Lost both of them but one was on a Silverstreak Hot Lobster 57 down on the rigger and also on the low diver with a flounder pounder moonshine. While resetting the rigger I felt another fish hit while attaching the slider and my brother got that one in the boat. Finished 3 for 6. Most was on south to north troll at 2.7 mph. Also got to overhear some great tips from Don of Tangled Mess charters at the fish cleaning station though I don't know if I'm at liberty to discuss them .
