  1. Went 4 for 9 (kings).....(I need to sharpen more hooks:angry2:) Fished SW of pierheads in 130 -200 fow. Marked alot of fish but not many takers. Moonshine blue Flounder took 4 of the fish. Most strikes were in 170-180 fow on downriggers set 45 foot down. Full lead core had one really nice steelhead that gave us a show on top of the water before shaking free. A great day for a boat ride! Thanks to Plumkrazy for setting me in the right direction! Doug
  2. Lines set around 5:45 am took 1 rip on 3 color leadcore w/ gold and silver thin fin in 60 fow. Fish got off before I could finish hurdling 2 kids sleeping on the floor:eek: Surface water temp in muddy water @ end of piers 55 deg....clean water 48 deg. Marked some fish 60 fow but no takers. Some guys at the launch did ok on kings out in front of the pier w/ north troll in 25-40 fow where the dirty water met the clean water.....we were not as fortunate. Oh yeah we were also 1 for 1 on 6' logs that weigh 100lbs:angry2: had to release it...(foul hooked)!!!!
  3. Thanks for the info......Newbie question.....when you say muddy water..is that the river plume in the lake?
  4. Has anyone heard of any activity out of st. joe or grand haven this last week. Looking to go out sunday with my wife, 5 year old daughter and niece.
  5. Took my mom and daughter out yeterday in the afternoon. Got lines set around 3:30 and fished till 6:30. Went 9 for 13 on coho. Fished south of piers in 20 to 30' of water. Gold was the hot color for the day. Gold and silver thin fins, gold rapalas on boards back 75-125'. Surface water temp 49 degrees.
  6. The fish finder is unimpressive. (what do you expect for 10 years old and mid/low cost) I have played around with the sensitivity settings and either get ALOT of clutter or very little clutter. I dont think it has the ability to pick up the thermocline. The only thing i really trust it for is depth. Can you get a quality finder for $700 range? I only go out about 8 times a year in lake michigan and another 4-5 times walleye fishing. What unit would you guys recomend?
  7. I have been reading some of the comments about lure speed/temp indicator. I currently have an old (1995?) eagle fish finder (model??? about $325) and have been thinking about upgrading. If you had to upgrade and had about $700 would you get a new fish finder, or use the existing fish finder and get a lure speed/temp indicator?
  8. Pardon my newbie questions.....What is creek:confused:
  9. Does anyone have any experience with cabelas depthmaster combo setups. I got some cabelas gift certificates for xmas and am looking to get setup with 2 dispey rods and 2 downrigger rods. Thanks in advance!
  10. WOW such choices......I will be fishing out of Grand Haven to St. Joe. I typically have time to fish in early April to Mid May, then late August. What lures/presentations do you find effective at those times of year?
  11. No rods or downriggers. X-mas is 2 weeks away!!!!! I can't make a decision on those that quickly!!
  12. My wife was asking for my x-mas list today......If you were just starting out salmon fishing in lake michigan, what would be a few of the must have setups you would request for x-mas? I need to buy some spoons/flys/jplugs, so I don't have to keep bothering my buddy to borrow his!!
  13. Anyone have any reports out of Grand Haven??
  14. I fished out of holland today in the a.m. We were 3 for 4 in 65 to 75 FOW. 1 was on full core. The others were on dipsey set at 140. We worked the water west of the pier to 2 miles north.
