  1. I've heard that the die off we had in Ludington, is a normal thing for the lake.?

There was actually a good amount of riff in the past year about bird/fish major die off's. It happens often. It just doesn't reach the media often and when it does people go nuts thinking the end is near. If you search you'll find random news stories since news has been on the internet about mass bird/fish die offs. Its nothing new.

  2. EH! looks too late but for future reference.

The cost is $7 and its the only option(Robbery we know). Anyone know the story of the other ramp that is closed? I would think if they made it less steep and charged $5 or something reasonable for a season pass we would leave the public launch in mass exodus. Anyways I digress...

If you don't take the route I highlighted and go through town you will be possible stuck in traffic. Especially on busy weekends. The bridge lifts on the top and bottom of the hour and you can get stuck(Especially, the few times of year you win the lotto and it gets stuck up). The way I highlighted there is barely anyone on the road once you turn onto blue star highway. Its a lot safer/quicker when pulling a trailer. It also takes you past the only bait shop in town.

Did anyone who launches go see the fireworks from a boat this year in south haven? I am curious on how long it took to get back in. I stayed on land in south haven. I did drive last night the boat from South Haven to Saint Joseph to fish/see their fireworks. Fearing their traffic/boat launch nightmare after it is over. I would highly recommend this option in the future. I think If I go to south haven fireworks in the future I might launch from Saugatuck or Saint Joseph.

  3. In South Haven we have throw rings. You guys should talk to your cities about getting these. They get stolen at least once a year or misplaced and found... So you got to have someone check on them daily.

I think they need to add signs on the beaches that say the amount of deaths in the lake this year. and explain in big bold letters.

Never go further in the water than waist deep. Use the waist on the shortest person in your group. And...If it's wavy even that can be too far from shore.

All the locals know this. That's why they don't drag the local bodies out of the water 9 times out of 10.

  4. Wow that sucks thats kinda the norm this year i have heard of 3 or 4 boats getting rods and reels stolen off there boat at the marinas. I guess we go into lock down mode.

It surprises me that a lot of people leave their rods in the holders on the back of their boats. They're so bloody expensive I can't see leaving them out there overnight. I came into south haven at about 2am a few weeks ago and couldn't believe how many rods I saw.

  5. Stories like this anger me more and more. I personally work in the gas exploration field. Things like this are written by people who are extremely unknowledgeable of the process. Gas is extracted a mile(5280 ft) below the surface, while average well water is drilled no deeper than 300 feet. Gas drilling has been going on for some 50 years in the states. Infact Michigan is starting to become a popular place, especially northern Michigan.

Have you seen the movie gasland? They refute alot of things you just said. With nice video interviews of house after house of people who can no longer drink their own water due to fracking which was just recently deregulated.

Also, if its not a big deal why not let the EPA have oversight on the matter? Why did a loophole in the EPA's responsibility get put in there so that if they drill for natural gas & frac... then the EPA has no business testing water quality in the area? I mean if its so far away... Why not let the EPA test drinking water.

Drilling for natural gas has been going on a long time. Most of it has been done no where near cities & homes. Now that gas prices have gone up and the law has changed its not economically viable to invade neighborhoods and towns. Nobody cares about some water in the middle of nowhere being contaminated. But when it gets closer to home and can ruin and entire watershed thats something to worry about.
