  1. I really like my Great Lakes Planer Triple. It fits in my tracks and can be removed easily. It has independent rod holders that can be swung in and out for adaptability, the only thing that is not adjustable is the angle of each rod holder.

  2. I was wondering if anyone as any experience with salt striker line. Supposedly it has a little bit smaller diameter for strength, but I haven't heard much about it. I need to respool all of my downrigger rods this summer and was looking for a less expensive alternative to some of the norms.

    Thanks

  3. The biggest difference I have found is the leader material is more abrasion resistant, and not as flexible. I use the leader material for flies, and a slipping j-plug harness I tie. They are short and the tougher material helps them last longer. I use the flourocarbon line for for the ends of my leadcore and my copper lines. Personally I would have no problem using the leader material for the end of my long lines if it wasn't so expensive.

  4. I fish mostly afternoon/evening trips... might make a difference

  5. Hey I was wondering if anyone here was interested in gaining a hunting friend. I know these posts pop up on the fishing side more often, but i thought i would give it a try. I moved to the grand rapids area a couple years ago, and have not been able to find a spot to hunt. I have a few floaters of geese and green heads. If you know of anyone who might be interested in having me hunt with them that would work, or if anyone knows of anywhere to try that would be great. I drove all the way down to yankee springs rec. area last night to check out a couple places, but there were no birds anywhere. My struggle is the last 2-3 years now I have not been able to make the 2 hour drive to my old stomping grounds now that I am teaching full time.

    Thanks

  6. Thanks for the input guys... Here is what I was looking at..http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=16044&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&storeId=11151&storeNum=10103&subdeptNum=10278&classNum=10282

The boat is a 21' Crestliner Sabre soft top... I have the setup for the other antenna allready on the boat, but I want to use whatever will have the best chance for pulling stations. My thought was anything is better than the 12" flexible one I have now, but I didn't want to drop $65 on something that wouldn't be an improvement.

  7. My favorite past time while fishing in the evenings is to listen to the baseball game on the radio. Last year I installed a radio on the boat, and used a $15 plastic flexible antenna. To say the least reception was not stellar, and once a few miles off shore I usually could not even get the game. I was curious if anyone has had any luck with the 8' fiberglass one from shakespear. I have a old Loran antenna I could take off, and replace it with the AM/FM one but I didn't want to spend the $$ on a 8' antenna if it wasn't going to gain me anything. (No pun intended). I have also seen a splitter forsale that you place inline on your VHF antenna to be able to use that for AM/FM. My concern for this was playing with my #1 saftey equipment on the boat. Any experince would be great... Thanks Guys

  8. I simply used a silver sharpie and wrote write on the side of the reel what was what. If i ever change what is on that reel, a little acetone will take the writing right off. Works great, everyone who grabs a reel knows what it is, and it is not huge writing, but simple and clean and they are all the same.

  9. I was at the Ultimate Sport show this weekend in GR, looking for something to use as a wire diver reel. I was looking at the convectors. One of the vendors was asking for a little over $80.00. When I mentioned something about being able to order them from wally world for $65.00 he proceeded to try to tell me that Okuma was making a different version for walmart at a smaller price. Has anyone else heard anything about this? Are they the same? Has anybody purchased the ones from walmart and used them for wire?

    Thanks

  10. Both boats are very similar. I think you would be very happy either way. I have a 1988 22' Sabre with the 170 hp I/O. I love it! fishes like a dream, a little hard to get trolled down, but a simple bag or a plate seams to work just fine. If you have any other questions about this platform feel free to ask. Great site here! Welcome!

  11. looks like the wire divers have the nod. I do already have wire divers, but need to update the rods and reels. Question number two... Upgrades the drags in my magdas with tuna tom, or pick up some convectors for wire divers...

    thanks guys..

  12. I've got cabin fever and have been reading keating on kings for the 2nd time now. I am thinking about adding 2 rods this year and was wondering what you guys thought. Wire dipsey's or should I play around with the light line idea?
