  1. Nice job Dennis we were giving up at 3 for 4 when we last talked on the radio decided to just troll in with the wind and waves at our backs picked up a dbl in 55ft landed both...turned around ran back out and came back across my mark and hit a second double...we lost one as I asked John to drop the speed down and he put the boat in reverse a little to far back on the ol lever. By the time I got the boat straightened back out my fish was gone.....

If we didn't have the autopilot we might have lost our fish and got a DIVORCE. :)

Did you get those on the downriggers? What is candy and snowsnake? Thanks.

  2. Hello All,

We just finished a 2 day trip on Lake Michigan out of Muskegon. Didn't have great luck but caught a few. (see FISHING REPORTS, http://www.greatlakesfisherman.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15516&goto=nextnewest

The report has a short video of the wave action that kept us rockin' and rollin'.

We may be able to get back out there next week.

    Thanks for all your help.

  3. We went out yesterday and today. Got skunked yesterday from 45' to 80' with roller coaster waves. Today we fished from the pier heads out to 150' in rough seas again.

Went 2/4 with a decent steelhead (110fow, braid dipsy size 0, 125 back, greasy chix wing mag) and a small king. It was nice to talk with 1MAINIAC for a while.

  4. Wife and I fished from 3 till 7 and went 2/2. Much better than yesterday when we got skunked out in 200fow.

Headed SW and starting marking fish right away so we set up in 50fow on a S troll. Braid dipsy (size 0) (Gander Mt. greasy chicken wing, on 2, 100 back) went 10 minutes after it was set. 6lb king. 20 minutes later the other braid dipsy went (double orange crush, on 2, 125 back). 8lb steel. "Oh boy", I thought, "the bite is on!"

But that was it. Two fish in the first hour and then zip. Nothing on the downriggers. Surface temp 68, down 40 it was 64, troll speed 2.8-3.2.

Marked tons of bait balls or huge schools of something. Perch?? We trolled south, turned around, marked fish, turned around. Nice day to be on the water.

  5. The wife and I will be at Harshorn on Friday (9/18) afternoon. Gonna do some fishing and have a few pints at the Irish Music Festival. Plan to go home before noon on Tuesday. I got the latest net locations and have been reading the fishing reports but still don't have much of a plan. Any info is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    DD

  6. I have a question, what do you mean when you say from 11s to 8s?

The Numbers – What do they mean?

In Ludington, as in many other ports, the various fishing areas are described by their GPS (Latitude/Longitude) numbers. Ludington boats use the “middle” number of the N (latitude) and W (longitude) to describe their positions on the radio.

The pier heads - at about 43º57’00N are described as “the 57’s”.

The Point - at about 44º03’50N is the “3 and 1/2’s”

The Project - at about 43º55’00N is the “54’s” or “55’s”

The Bathhouse is in the “02’s” at about 44º02’00N

The “Number Change” (also known as the “Double 0’s” is the 44th Parallel, where latitudes change from 43º to 44º - this is about 3 miles north of the Ludington pier head.

You also will hear boats on the radio talk about being at the “31 Line”, meaning their middle W number is 31 (86º31’00). This is about 4 nautical miles west of the pier heads which are at 27W (86º27’00). Or you might hear someone say they are out at the “40 Line”. This means they are way out deep in 300+ FOW near the commercial shipping lanes, 86º40’00W, about 13 nautical miles west of the pier heads.

  7. Bought on eBay in 2005 as a kicker for our 28' Marinette. Have upgraded to a 4 stroke.

Manual start motor starts easily, runs great, and shifts smoothly: F-N-R. Just installed new spark plugs, water pump kit, carrier bearing seal, thrust bearing and washer ($150, have receipts and saved the old parts). Lower unit pressure tested and filled with new gear lube.

Included: Garelick portable stand ($80), fuel tank and line ($40), service manual ($70), Garelick tilter assist handle ($25), propeller (10 3/8" X 13P), and fabric motor cover.

    YEAR - 1982 - Always fresh water

    MODEL - 102522

    SERIAL - 7188680

    $900 OBO

I prefer not to have to ship but could put on a pallet for your shipper. Probably around 125 pounds total.

  8. Hello All,

The wife and I just got back from our trip to Ludington. Didn't fish much because of the bumpy weather. But, we decided to check out the incoming fish at the cleaning station on Sunday night and got a HUGE surprise. The big male tipped the bragging board scale at 34 pounds! Wonder how much it would weigh on a certified scale.

    Anybody know who caught it?

  9. Were going back this weekend too Joe, the point was hot but very busy, too busy I think, We're going to run south a little bit and see where the traffic isn't...Hioefully the weather will participate with us and give us a calm setting.
Thanks for the report. We are leaving for Ludington on TH and coming home on TU the 25th. Let's hope for good weather
