All our fish came on spoons that night, we never put a body bait out. Spoon size I don't think matters most days. The fish hit Mag spoons, Reg. Spoons but they did seem to show a liking to Warriors Flutter Spoon, that spoon is 3 3/8 long, more slender and lighter than a standard spoon, the colors where Steelhead candy, Fire Tiger, and Sister Sledge for the Warriors. Met Yellowtails, purples, and Monkey puke, and chicken pox where the other colors..

Detour is smoking hot right now fellas.
We launched with our group at 3pm yesterday pulled lines at 6:30 because the clients didn't want anymore fish. tally for the afternoon was 8 Atlantics to 10 pounds and 1 Laker, and we lost 3 or 4 fish. Really didn't seem to matter what you where running as long as it was running from the surface to about 30 feet down. The new Warrior flutter spoon did pull most of the fish. For cores we had 1-2-3 and a 1/2 core, all taking fish, riggers hit a few and one on a dipsey.. for Warrior spoons the Fire Tiger, Steelhead candy (Gold one) and Lemon Ice produced best.. We fished from the green can past the lighthouse over the flat.. Nows the time

This weekend looks pretty good, we'll be back on the water tomorrow with the seasons first charter... Cooling issue is resolved... Rainy and windy here still not going to make it out this afternoon.. The wind gods have got to run out of breath pretty soon I hope
-
This wind has got to stop blowing sometime.. We did manage to get some fishing in before the wind a a cooling issue on the boat sent us back to the dock. We hit one 12# King off a 20 foot rigger and a Warrior Fire Tiger flutter spoon. We where planning on fishing again this afternoon but I have to see if I can get the cooling issue resolved...

What where you running for mono between the diver and the plug ?. I'm not a big fan of snubbers but unless you beef up the mono you will break a few off..
-
Cell phone thru this coming weekend. We should be in detour thursday morning, Friday afternoon and again saturday morning. Your 17 foot will do it if the weather co-operates, some of the best fishing this time of year is around the lighthouse, and right out of the mouth of Whitney Bay, on those humps
-
Nailer where you going to be staying ?, we'll be fishing the Detour area starting Thursday, weather permitting,
-
Spoons off dipseys work very well. If your flasher/flies aren't producing and the spoon bite is on there no reason not to run them off your dipseys ..

We run 2-7 foot Talora wire rods on our boat "non swivel tip", They are both Med action, we run mostly Walker deeper Divers, the 107mm. you shouldn't have a problem with the mag divers. The only issue we had with ours was with the non swivel tip, the wire sawing thru the the top roller fram, we put twilli tips on them for this year, not very pretty, but should be functional..

GPS is the way to go, SOG, water wheel isn't that accurate..

I doubr very much your could distroy the plates be trying to bring the boat up on plan..... you will know instintley the plate down when you throttle up..
-
Running a plate like that on a I/B inhanceses your ability to control the boat at slower speeds, Inboards work by pushing water into the rudder to. With the plate you can keep your RPM's up. we have been running one on our 252 Sportcraft for the past 2 years. Our biggest issue with the plate was getting it up out of the water when we where running, if you don't get it at least a little above level it act's as a BIG Trim Tab thats ALWAYS pushing the front of the boat into the water.. In Chris'es Baha he has the room to mount the top of the piston high on the stern of the boat to pull the plate up past level, we didn't have that option because of a built in cooler in the stern of our boat. This year we mounted the top of our piston to a kicker motor bracket, if the bracket holds up, We'll post a few pictures later this spring.

I just wonder how the heck their going to inforce those restrictions on Tribal folks ... Not really, we all know the DNRE has washed their hands on anything to do with tribal fishing
-
We haven't been out there since we bought the SportCraft and started chartering I would say 4 or 5 years since we have been there. would like to make it back, it's a nice fish

When fishing Wood Island Reef out of Munising we've had them spit out what appeared to be Sturgeon skeltons when they hit the floor.

Like I said above it could be a bit early but well worth a shot if you get the chance. It's more or less a midday fish that time of the yearI wouldn't start much earlier than say 8am, some of our best catches that early have come between 11am and 1 or 2 pm. Everything will be in the top 30 feet of water, Atlantic's, Kings, and Lakers, and a few Steelhead. most everything will catch fish thru out the day, Riggers, with a free slider added to the main line, dipsies, Boards with spoons and body baits off 1-2-or 3 colors leadcore, rotator and flies also will produce on some days. Spoon Color and sizemags ad reg size work: Monkey Pukes-Walmart (with the dots)-Blue and green dolphins-kavorkeans- Frogs-Sister Sledge. For body baits think smelt, blue backs, silver sides, yellow bellys- Wonder bread colors, Black back Gold sides and bellys. Flies: Bloody nose, What I call our money fly, green grinkle with a hint of Miage under the green, Flashers Greens and whites.
Fish the edges of the shipping channel both green and red sides between Detour and Drummond, If your going to come out of Whitney Bay fish those red cans and there are a few humps there also. Fish the shelf that the lighthouse set on.
We do better fishing dirty water look for it it move from day to day. Best thing I can tell you to do is pick up a chart of the area, fish the structure. If I can help you anymore drop me a pm .. John

April could be a bit early for the Atlantics, BUT the way this year is shaping up you never know. The ice is already gone. I'm on my way out of the house this morning Jose so I don't have the time to answer anymor questions right now, I'll post most later this afternoon.. John

What marine antenna do you feel is worth the money spent , or bang for your buck..

You'll find most everything related to big lake fishing is pricey..One thing to remember, since your just starting out you don't need top dollar rods ands and reels, sure there nice but a $20 fire wolf rod and a $30 Okuma Magda 30 DX will put alot of fish in the boat. The set up your talking about for your boat is a good start, as money loosens up look at putting 2 to 4 inline boards with core or copper, also a dipsie set on "0" run down the shute, the shute dipsie has taken alot of very nice fish over the years. As for aour Braid Dipey's we us Spider Wire Stealth #50 you can buy that for around $20 a 300yd spool, and somewhere down the line you'll be looking at a wire set up. I can speak of colors on the michigan side of the lake, for spoons Your Greens and Blues (Green dolphins/ Blue dolphins/ Chilly Willy's/ Sister Sledge was good to us last season/ Blacks like the MJ/Screw ball/ and don't forget the Glows. As for Flashers/Dodgers. greens and blues again/Trash can/ black & White's/. Flies We tie our own, 99% of the flies we tie have a touch of Mirage in them and again Greens and blues for a main color/. about mid July we start running meat riggs alot, sky's the limit on these, big thing is finding the herring to put in them. If I can help you out any farther drop me a email or pm.. good luck. John

The clear tubing in the packages are for running braid lines. Also unless they "Improved" some how where the line is pinched to hold it in place, braid will cut a groove in the top of the diver, making it useless, a bit of epoxy will fix it if it happens
