Launched at 3:30 back at the dock by 6:30 with 6 almost to big lakers and a small King. Peanuts and meat riggs south of the Lighthouse, Seems like laker Central now fellas

Lots of those bloody things up here, almost all the salmon you catch will at least have a scare on them. Seems like they have taken a liking to salmon blood. This spring out of Detour there must have been a hatch of them, Most of the salmon had lampreys about 6" long on them, unlike the 1 foot + lamperys in the past.... On a Kinda high note, most of the lakers are clean, no lamperys and no scars, go figure...

Metal Dodgers and Lakers go hand and hand, up here with Spin-n-Glows or Peanuts a short lead form the dodger works best for us, like 16" short.. We've been doing well with a 8" shiney sliver Flodger and a glow peanut.
If your using the Big spin-n-glows you need to get the hook away for the body of it, couple 8mm beads or a 8mm 10mm glowand another 8mm.. Works for us..

Have any of you guy recieved a email from a Dr. Tim Breckly ? about a 3 days of fishing ? .. Somethings not right.. I can get no information from him at all. Finally told him that he needed to call to set the trip up.. Haven't heard hide nor hair from him since, and this guy was emailing daily for about a week..
Just a heads up ...

Orchard Beach state Campground. You'd have to tow the boat to the city launch, but they do have a fish cleaning station..

The bouncing action is what makes the inline so effective

We had 2 groups scheduled for Tue. The AM group did well, we boated 9 lakers in a span of about 2.5 hours after finding the fish, the pm group only got a hour so we rescheduled for today, they canceled last night..
The Lakers are there in very good numbers, once you find them the limits come quick..

You should by some boards to get the most out of the core rods, you can run one down the shute, But for the most part it's a tangle waiting to happen when you hit a bigger fish off the riggers.. I think Franks has church boards on sale ofor about $19. well worth the investment..

we got kicked in the sack on sunday fishing detour, what a change.... managed 2 small lakers (on the same line at the same time mind you) one on the main line one on the slider..
We also had 1 very nice Atlantic to the boat before it managed to throw the hooks.. This keeps up looks like the Laker programs going to have to start:(

We run the Walker 107mm Deeper divers, don't really see the need to go anything bigger up here..
-
We have never used super glue to hold the braid in the lead core, still never had a problem..
-
Here's a box of fish from last night, just 2 of us on the boat. there's some Lakers in there on the bottom also.
-
What adrenalin said. we us Spyderwire stealth as backing on most of our bigger cores, Willis knot has yet to fail us, we don't use any mono between the 2.
A little tip: use a needle to thread the braid into the core..

Big thing about epoxy is once you glue it in it's there for keeps. I'd try a good Marine silicone/adhesive first, I think you'll be happy with it..
here is the one we did

We just used a good silicone sealent to stick ours back in place, looked like thats all that was used when whoever put it in installed it.. (12 years ago)
we also just did the edge

Once summer hits Rick we will run mostly a full core and a 1/2 core off boards 99% of the time. For us spring means 1 color thu a full core with 1 thu 1/2 most days out of Detour. Last year out of St.Ignace in Aug.... 5 and 10 colors took a bunch of fish..
-
You need to add Warrior Spoons to your list.. there flutter spoons been the top producer for us so far this year..
-
Unless you spend a whole bunch of time fishing Salmon/Trout in the great lakes a 7 foot Med or Med heav 1pc Ugly stick rod and Okuma DX 30 & 45 will do you just fine, if you happen to wear one of those reels out either throw it away or send it to Tuna Tom and a $30 fixin, you'll have about $60 invested per set up not counting the core.

Any size to those Coho's up there Steve ?

The Straits should be Laker Central by then. As long as they don't flood the bay with nets thing should be pretty good.. Like Nailer said From those 3 Big Cement Casons to the Coast Guard dock in that water depth he stated. Also that same troll past the coast guard dock there is a pretty good shelf thats runs out to the green can, you can follow it around out past under the bridge if you want. If you have a desent chip in your chart plotter you will see the breaks, fish them.. I don't know if we will get out of st.ignace before then so I can't give you much up to date infor, maybe Steeliebob can from this board. last year our best spoons where hands down, Sister Sledge, and Met. Yellowtail. If your not catching anything at Salmon speeds pull it back and go into a laker program..

You local Steve or just up visiting ?
We fished the green side past the lighthouse, then down past the second red can, did that twice, it was pretty bumpy the first time. We hit 4 fish, all by the red can(closest to the lighthouse), 1 shaker we let go, one 8.5lb Atlantic, one 2-3lb Atlantic, then lost something pretty nice on a 1/2 core. The core rods have been doing about 90% of the damage since we started this spring, 1 color thu a 1/2 core, with if I had to pick more than likely a 2 and 3 color. but that will change this coming week I'm sure with the hot weather.... Now all we need is the bloody wind to stop blowing again..

where abouts where you fishing steve ?

The wind had things a bit messed up last night we did manage to go 3 for 4 after the waves layed down a bit.
1 very small atlantic off a rigger 23 down with a monkey puke, 1-8.5 pound atlantic off a 2 color dragging a Warrior Fire Tiger, 1-3 pound atlantic off a 1 color with a warrior Steelhead Candy, the one we lost was on a 1/2 core dragging a Raider Cracked Ice Gold, this cracked Ice Gold spoon has been a very good Laker spoon for us over here. I have a picture or 2 on the camera I'll post later..

No Salmon fishing for us right now it's all Lakers. Last nights charter we ended up going 11 for 16 on the snakey buggers, even in the high winds and building seas
About 4 miles south of the lighthouse, stay in 100 feet of water or less, Glow Peanuts behind silver Flodgers, 90 feet down on the riggers,Braid dipseys 250 - 260 back White fishcatchers with peanuts or spin-n-Glows, and one of those retards on 2 colors of lead draging a Warrior Cold Steelhead candy Flutter spoon..
