  1. consistency and paying attention to details. matching one fly to another. ie: lead lengths, bead colors, mass of fly material, head color, flasher, etc, etc...sometimes it is changing one or all of the previously mentioned. spoons can be some what idiot proof. just snap it on there and throw it out there, maybe change speeds. Flasher/fly need to be tweaked to your boat and fishing style. And most important FLUOROCARBON!

you need to have patience and confidence. Sometimes the fish just aren't biting!

  2. Warm water has come to the west side! Fishing has moved off shore but that is not necessarily a bad thing for us day time fishermen.

Weds 7/28 10am to 3pm - Fished a little south of town 110 fow out to 220 fow. Great mixed bag of fish. Got 11 to the net and missed at least that many plus threw a few small guys back.

Friday 7/30 8am to 1pm - Fished 100 fow out to 160 fow right away then finished the day inside the 3rd hill in 85 fow. Caught 19, missed a few and threw 6 small guys back.

Sat 7/31 6am to 11am - ROUGH WATER! started back in 85 fow and had good action right away. Slowed up and headed out to 130-150 fow after a good tip and finished the day with good action. Ended with 13 fish (4 small guys that were not returnable) missed a few and threw four back.

Only had to change a bait once all three days! Dreamweaver Super Slims have been the hot ticket. Any combo of green or blue on 3 color lead all the way down to the bottom. Magic Man and Green Dolphin probably the hottest. Green Dot Spin Doctors on dipsys 200 feet out and Dreamweaver UV Tarheel fly 111 on downrigger also took some nice fish.

  3. Sorry for a lack of updated fishing reports. Haven't been around a computer alot lately. I also have been bad at keeping up with pictures.

fishing has been up and down the last two weeks. Lots of cold water everywhere! Shoreline out past 200 fow. Fishing during the day time was excellent one day, then slow the next, then good again.

Tuesday afternoon fished 100-120 fow on straight east of town. Ended with 8 fish and missed a couple. Half lake trout and half salmon. 300 copper, leadcores and deep riggers.

Weds afternoon fished 80-150 fow with 140-150 being the best. Lots of fish below the boat but they were not really active. Ended with 9 in the boat and missed a handful more. Found a pocket of rainbows which made for a lot of fun! High leadcores and SWR down 50 were the best.

Thursday was forced inside due to rough water. Fished 30-35 fow north of Wind Point. Struggled in the rough water but managed to boat 7 fish. Two nice kings and the rest "eaters." Really hard to mantain speed/control, but glad i had my Tiara! High leadcores and SWR riggers were the best.

Best baits the last three trips have been by far Dreamweaver Super Slims. Various patterns were working but Cheap Sunglasses with a piece of green glow tape was the most consistent (all year actually). The Magic Man stood out in the shallow water too. Various Spin Doctors have been catching fish occasionally too, but not as good as the SS's. Have tried other size spoons with little success. On weds the rainbows were loving a mag purple Pro King, official name unknown.

sorry for the lengthy report. I will try to be more up to date in the future.

  4. Absolutely fabulous fishing north of Wind Point 30-40 fow this morning. Nothing much over ten pounds for me but the action was practically non stop. Ended with 6 man limit (plus one for me!) and had about 45-50 fish hooked up.

Spin Doctors (dreamcatcher, green dot, H3 bb white hammer, chrome frog) and Dreamweaver Super Slims (cheap singlasses, blue glow frog, fireball) were the hottest. Honestly it was one of those days where they probably would have bit a bare hook!

  5. Anyone feeling lucky? Try your luck with Salmon Unlimited of Wisconsin's Salmon-A-Rama! Lots of money out there for the taking. July 10-18, I believe it is Lake Michigan wide. You just have to weigh your fish in Racine. For $10,000 it may be worth the drive. Money payout for top 10 in each species.

hope to see some of you over here!

  6. I use Spro #10(i think) swivels at any copper connection and simply put the copper through the swivel and twist it on itself 10-20 times and tie your other line on the opposite side. Makes for supper easy and fast re-rigging. The swivels is small enough to go through the rod guides and wind on the reel.

as far as the wide-mouth guides, if the reels do not have them Okuma will send you some at a reasonable price. They are fairly easy to change out.

  7. Mauraders are a spoon manufactured here in Racine by Shure Hit/Alderton Tackle. It is owned by Captain Ken Mandy of the Kari Joy. They have been around a long time just not a really wide spread. Hard to find in stores, most are obtained directly through Ken. They have an off set hook which makes them pretty unique. here is the best picture i can get right now. It is a regular sized Green Tubilee. I will get a better picture tomorrow.

  8. did the first mating thing on another charter boat today. fishing started out slow but ended fantastic. ended up fishing a line in 75 fow north of wind point. 1 fish in the first two hours, finished up with 14. three nice big kings, the rest were all cohos with a couple rainbows mixed in. For the first time in my 17 years working charter boats i saw a whitefish caught while trolling for salmon! would have liked to taken that one home for dinner myself.

most of the fish came on Shure Hit Mauraders in Blue and Green Tubilee on leadcore 3-10 colors. Some fish on various flashers and flys also.

sorry no pics today. forgot my camera.
