yeah, could have been worse! as bad as fishing was, i have been sitting at the fire station all day today wishing i was fishing again!
-
fished 1:30pm to 5:00pm. ended 2 for 2
really slow. Started S.E. of the reef in 35-60 fow after decent report from the morning. Water was good but marked very little. 2 hours and no hits.
pulled lines and moved to Wind Point. Water was about 5 degrees colder. Lots of bait on the shelf around the can. Two fish came 50 fow east of the 14 can. Both fish came 15 down on a swr. one on a regular warrior weasel, one on a regular warrior glow green alewife.
hope it gets better!

welcome matt!
jim is right on. most of us rely on experience and networking to catch fish. The more you research and fish, the better fisherman you will be. Talk to some of the charter captains that are fishing everyday, if they are willing to talk to you. Location is one of the number one factors in catching fish on lake michigan.
I was in Port yesterday and the guys fishing the dock said they were starting to catch fish. They should be staging in and in front of the harbor mouth now.
The immature salmon generally "stage" as well. they will come to the same general area they were spawned in as well, just not travel up the river. They will usually be where the bait is.
hope this helps!

nice job kyle!
sounds like my venture up to sturgeon bay last summer for the KD tourny. Lots of wind and not much fish!

Russ - that spoon is the Super Glow Hot Michigan Dolphin. You and Randy definitely had 'em dialed in better on sat then i could yesterday.

fished 8:30am til about 1 pm. Started S.E. of the reef in 60 fow and trolled out over the hills. Didn't have a fish until we crossed the hills. Marked a lot of fish on and over the hills. Ended up with 4 fish, two nice kings, a nice coho, and a small brown. One on a captain valuim spin doctor/aqua fly, one on a green gator super slim, two on a hot michigan dolphin super slim. pics are pretty poor, drinking beer was a higher priority on a beautiful day off!

Nice fish! I love fishing that school out there, they are so much fun. just hate burning the gas to get there.

sweet trip! nice job guys!
-
thats awesome jim, and russ!
i'm sure that school of fish is related to the school that us racine guys and the kenosha guys have been fishing for the last couple of weeks. They are so much fun! it definetely makes the long run out and in worth it!
on a nice day your boat would have no problem out there jim.

i can't tell you an exact length. I usually try to stick with a three times the attractor rule. Once i have something working i duplicate it. If i have to replace a leader i find a way to match it exactly. Recently it is the width of by bait table! I will have to measure it tomorrow and let you know.
this is based on my down speed of usually around 2.7mph on my depth raider.
-
from my experience, you can not run it with out the "extra pieces." i learned the hard way. had some i had laying around for a while and tried to use them with braided line by themselves. the divers would not hold and slid down to my stoppers. use as directed certainly applies here.
-
fly leads are like women, everyone has there own favorites!
lead length really comes down to trolling speed. USUALLY, the faster the speed, the longer the lead.
-
nice fish! i would love to see that video
that green dot spin doctor is my new superhero after seeing what it can do this year! I have to get my hands on some of those midnight specials.
-
roller rods are not needed. most guys just prefer to have bigger eyes so the large knots/swivels will pass through.
-
I wish lake michigan would grow them that big regularly again!

i love my vectors.....but they are not made anymore
from experience, i personally would never buy one with plastic parts anymore.
Honestly, all the major manufacturers have good products. It comes down to preference with rod holders, speed, color, low profile vs higher profile, what kind of bases, etc, etc, etc.
