I'm 100% on board with Pluggs, we used to use soft scrub and it worked, but tore up the wax and we had to rewax often. We use the same stuff Shane mentioned and it works great and doesn't hurt the wax as much....also, we use a very stuff brush and get down on the hands and knees and put some elbow grease on it.

Matt, you opened up a can of worms responding to Don.

I used to buy cheap raingear and ended up ripping them (not from farts) after about 3 or 4 trips.

Finally I got sick of it and wend to Gander and got a pair of guide rated bibs and coat.

They are awesome.

I'd say if you are looking for good gear - don't be afraid to spend the money - you won't be mad about it later.

Especially fishing as much as you do.

I've always liked the sportscrafts for fishing boats.

I second the sea anchors vs. spending money on a trolling plate.

The sea anchors go out almost every trip on our boat (and most others I ride on).

They stabalize the boat, keep in in the water during heavy waves, help turning, etc etc.

Many good comes from fishing with bags.

One of my favorite things about the sportscraft ist he wide open back and large gun walls, GREAT for traxstech. I'd put track on the entire back and LOAD it up with rod holders.

MUST have a survey - I would not buy a boat for that kind of money without a survey.

You are about to enter the most exciting part of fishing addiction (IMO) setting up a new boat.

It was awesome being on the Rough Diamond again...and it was WAY AWESOME to catch fish. Good friends, a few fish, and a safe trip - can't beat that.

Welcome aboard Darrell, plenty of guys here to share your addiction with.

Some of the most fun is setting up a new boat.

I'm sure you will get plenty of suggestions from guys here.

My biggest suggestions if you are going to get serious are

1. electric downriggers - you will learn to hate manuals if you get out often.

2. rod holder rod holders and more rod holders - you can never have enough rod holders on a boat. No matter how many you have you can always use two more.

We run 45lb on everything...i guess I figured if we were going to run copper it was goign to be deep fast...not that 32 lb doesn't work...it's just what we started with and stuck with...we use 100, 200 and 300 coppers and I'm thinking about 450s, but I like the idea of the 60lb copper and going with a 300 on it.
