  1. Own 15 Cisco tube rod holders now, started with just 4 of them years ago and liked them so much I kept on buying more. Rod holders are fully adjustable and with the cam locking you can adjust the tension exactly where you want it. You can lock them down tight or on my dipsy rods I leave it just loose enough so that I can pull the rods strait up to make it easier to remove them. Tubes are longer than most, they hold your rods securely and no caps to lose. Also have a Cisco 10 rod rocket launcher and some pulleys for my planer boards. Excellent quality, precision machining on everything they build.
  2. I have a TR-1 mounted on a Yamaha T9.9 and it doesn't inhibit the tilt/trim or anything else on the motor. It is a full blown auto pilot, not just remote steering like you have now. When installed properly it is definitely not an eye sore and does a great job. The actual install involves mounting the pump unit somewhere inside the transom area, mounting the hydraulic cylinder on the motor, mounting the compass ball towards the front of the boat in an area free of any magnetic influences and running wires for the control and power. Because it is an actual auto pilot you have to tune it on the water to match your boat's characteristics once it is installed. All this is "do-able" by a good mechanic but I would consider the advantages of having an experienced, certified installer doing it if possible. Ultimately how well the TR-1 works and how happy you are with it will depend on the installation and tuning.
  3. I have 2 HDS units on my 25' Penn Yan networked together and run both a Lowrance transom mount and an Airmar B60 thru hull transducer. With the network I can use either transducer with either HDS unit. I get the best picture and hold bottom with the thru hull but both do a good job if they are set up correctly. Both transducers will give you temperature but not speed, I use my X-4 or GPS for that. Only problem with the thru hull was getting up the courage to drill the hole in the bottom.
  4. If you are looking at the boat I think you are I own almost the identical Penn Yan 255 Intruder except mine has a 300 mpi mercruiser. I believe 2001 was the last year they were manufactured. I feel they handle rough water fairly well and was impressed with mine last year when I was caught in a squall 5 miles out on Lake Ontario, my wife wasn't impressed at all, if you know what I mean. I can fish 4 guys comfortably, the dog house is fairly small and not hard to work around, and the hard top is high enough. Workmanship is nothing fancy (plush) but seems solid, probably better than average all around. I would make sure to take it for a test ride with the load you would normally carry to make sure the 230hp provides enough performance to satisfy you. Not too bad to tow and no permits needed since they have a 8'6" beam. The bow pulpit makes it a little tricky to launch till you figure out how far to back it in the water so the pulpit doesn't hang up on the winch, that said I usually launch it by myself and keep my feet dry. Overall I've owned mine 3yrs now and am still very happy with it, not even tempted yet to get anything else. Hope this info helps.
