For next season I want complitely refresh my trolling lures arsenal. Most of exist lures are casting spoons and wobblers.
Can you help me create some list of lures that complitely nessesary and things that I should have for trolling. I mean flashed, files, meat rigs, spoons and etc... (On my boat I have 6 planner board rods and 2 downrigger rods) in the middle of summer I use hot colors (gold, red, yellow, green) and in the end I add cold colors (silver, blue).
thanks

here we can't use caviar or shrimp in river becasue salmon can't ignore it. Any natural baites is not allowed. Only casting spoons & files and etc...

>Whats the salmon fishing like there?
Salmon fishing is very different here. Fly-fishing, spinning, trolling.
>Whats the biggest salmon you have caught so far?
about 8lb. But im beginner. At nearest lakes we have only walleye & pike, no salmon.
>Do you have a boat? Any pictures?
Yes, but its extremely small for trolling purposes . I have inflatable boat. Boats here are bloody expensive. Im in progress
>Do you fish for salmon when they run upriver to spawn?
No, because its imposible to buy license. only trolling in the lake. Its possble to fish they at the river only on Kola Peninsula (below some of my photos of latest Kola Peninsula trip)
>How big do they get there?
the biggest about 20-30lb maybe more...
some photos of Kola Peninsula 2007
Our camp. Kitchen near Barents Sea (Arctic Ocean) in the left corner and tent in the right. Light extreme, but everything is fine. Most time we are on the river. Arctic day. Sun bright 24 hours some times rain, some times snow he he he.
low-tide. sequential camp picture. (2 shots from one place) water go down on 6 meters.
Here the river near camp.
Its me with salmon.
fresh caviar
King crab
PS: I have plenty of questions about spoons, flashers & files, becasue I need to buy all this. I want complitely refreh my arsenal. so I need to know what I definitely need

hm... what inline planners do you use ? I think my planners (tx-24 aka walleye board) go down if I put 4oz on my mono he he he
How far from spoon do you put sinker (dive bomb) ?
What line & dipsey size do you use ?
Do you have any problems with dipsey roads that sail in the wake ? Very often big fish tangles them. so I prefer user only riggers + inline planners.

am also be very thankful if you help me understand difference between
Lead core and Non-Lead Weighted Trolling Line
-
I found good article about lead core and understand how I should connect it.
one more question.
As I understand I should split lead core on pieces and then connect it. If I want change depth I should connect another piece of lead core ?
how do you keep these different pieces ?
-
Thanks for answers.
I have no idea on what depth my spoons was. (as I understood its impossible to know this depth) I just use 1/2, 1, 1 1/2oz sinkers with 20# line. My speed around 1.5-2.5mph.
I worry that my spoons will be far far away from boat and I can't use inline planner boards (tx-24). I use 3-4 from each side.
It will be right way if I change all my mono on lead core and just play with lead core length ?
-
I can't understand difference between using lead core and trolling (rubber) sinkers. Just want to know benefits/disadvantage of both.
I use sinkers, but I see lots of people use lead core... Right now, I use inline panner bords, with mono line.
thanks

Hello everybody.
Im new one on this forum. Thanks, I found lots of usefull info for myself. Im far far away from Great Lakes. Im from Russia. Here we have also Greate lakes with salmon.
I have some 4 inch stinger spoons and I want change hooks on them. I want remove treble hooks and attach single. How better I can do this, - without split ring, with split ring or maybe with swivel....
The questin is what will be better. Sting can look to the top or botom or can be parallel to spoon blade.

At another lakes we also have Salmo trutta (maybe its brown trout, I don't know exactly) and Arctic Char (Salvelinus alpinus) . Sure, walleye is also my target.
The problem is that I see lots of different flashers(pro troll, spin doctors, Captain John King's), files and rigns, but I don't know exactly how many different lures I should have to start investigate what's better work here.
For example I can buy about 20-30 different spoons (that mentioned in "hot colors 2007" thread) I think that cover my first planner boards needs, but I complitely dont know how many different flashers and files (maybe other lures except spoons) I should have for my downrigger experiments. Maybe I'm wrong and I should use spoons on downrigger with flashers, I don't know
PS: Maybe someone suggest me better way how choose spoons, becasue I need spoons for walleye too, but mostly I need salmon lures kit.
