  1. Mike, I havent even touched the new boat yet... I know...I'm a loser, but I am still working on some issues with the new truck, I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow to have it worked on........ These spring kings were HEALTHY and fought hard to the net, if thats any indication of how the fish are going to be this year we have our hands full!!

HOLLANDPIPER... I live in Pullman about 10min from South Haven and I work in Holland, we probbably pass each other on the way to work every day:) I passed by you a few times and was telling my buddy that my old man had a boat just like yours but cream colored and was a great fishing boat. We ended the day about 5.2 miles north of the channel.

  2. Well the league was cancelled but it didn't stop Team UNREEL from fishing. We left the launch about 8:30 and moments later found ourselves hung up on a sand bar in the middle of Pigeon Lake. Once we freed ourselves we made it through the pierheads and set lines in about 35fow testing the waters. Waves were a mixed bag of 2fters sometimes 1fters but conditions were good. After rigging the set and changing some leaders from last year we finally picked up our first fish of the year. 14lb King off a fixed slider on the rigger at about 31ft down. Moments later we had the lead(full core) go and picked up a 12lb King. After resetting the lead it took off again for our final fish a 9lb king. We took the 14lb on a Stingray Yellow NBK and the 12lb and 9lb came off a #116 RAC spoon (gold/orange/black). The fish were in 50fow about 5 miles north of PS in 43 degree surface temp. There was a gradual temp break from 47-43 that was holding the fish. Heard some other guys on the radio catching a few lakers and some small kings but we pretty much had the lake to ourselves. I'll post a pick when I get the image off my phone.

  3. Well I just put some money down on a 2000 Ford Expedition today, I am going to finish up the paperwork on Monday and then I'm good to go. Anyone looking for a 98 Jeep Cherokee Classic? I have one for sale.

  4. Thanks for the compliments, I have a plan of attack for the coversion for the equipment from the UNREEL over to ???This Boat???? Another dilema is I need to buy a tow vehicle. My Jeep Cherokee just is not going to cut it for this boat. I'm looking at Yukons, Tahoes, and Expeditions. You guys have any thoughts or suggestions on that...

Just picked this up this week! It's a 1985 25 Sea Ray Sundancer. My wife, kids and I are really excited about stepping up and spending even more time on the water. It's probbably going to take me a few weeks to get her rigged up/tuned up for fishing. Untill then I am still going to fish out of the UNREEL. Right now I am busy thinking of a new name for this boat. That's always a tough decision.

  6. Seen my first struter next to my house this morning, if it goes like 05 for me I'll be out my back door and done with my hunt in 15 minuites. If that doesn't pan out I got a phone call this weekend from a blueberry farmer friend of mine he wants me to eradicate his flock on his property. He said there were 5+ toms and about 35 hens out his back window when I was talking to him... Things are looking good this year for me. :)

  7. Great Video I look forward to seeing much more this year. The water looked great out there that day. Must of been fun while most of us were sweating at work dreaming we were behind the rods:rolleyes:

  8. My boss went out last night to Port Sheldon. He wound up breaking ice throught the channel with his 18ft fibergass outboard boat. They showed me the video and pictures from that and man that was risky. It would have been one very expesive coast guard venture had there been any problems. One other guy in a smaller aluminum boat tryed getting out but they said he didnt make it to open water. They wound up picking up an 8lb steelie on the warm water discharge on an orange hot-n-tot.

  9. I preferr to take the fish off the back. I try and keep a set of rod holders open for swapping poles around in a hairy situation. I also like to swing my riggers out of the way cause I've had some kings get wrapped up in the cable and snap off. I was wondering if any of you guys have tryed one of those magnet deals to put on the net that hold back the bottom netting untill the fish gets in there. If any of you have tried one of these I would like to know how good they work. I know that if the first attempt at putting a fish in fails, that excess netting flopping around can get hung up on everything.

  10. I know a guy that runs a single downrigger off his sailboat and a dipsey rod, and I have seen him haul fish just about every time he gave it a try. Sailboats are silent and also can be deadly effective.

  11. I shoot an Old Army Ruger .45 muzzle loader pistol. Using exclusivly American Pioneer Powder, the best on the market. I love pistol hunting because I am a avid bow hunter and enjoy the close range hunting. Plus I carry it in Shot Gun and then muzzle loader season. In shot gun I use it for close range and my shotgun is used out to 100 for long range. Beyond that I believe its best you use a rifle or a high powered 150gr smoke pole. I personally don't like taking long shots, I try to keep it in the wheel house.

  12. I almost lost my dad to a salmon net once. A tangled mess of lures in the hand and lines running to a downrigger ball that hooks an unmarked or very poorly marked net on the Wisconsin side about 18 years ago. If it wasnt for my quick reaction of grabbing him by his ankles and a knife in my pocket he would have been a gonner. I hope to check out that seminar and learn about the nets cause honestly they scare the crap out of me.

  13. Sounds like both you guys have some grounding issues. Sleds tend to get corroded and so the voltage tends to float cause it doesnt have anywhere to dissapate to. (paulywood) You probbably have a bad kill switch or connection to the kill switch. (Mark) You probably have a bad ground at the light where the bulb meets the connector or somewhere someone down the line cut or pinched the wires leading to the light. If the voltage regulator is bolted to the frame make sure that there is a good connection to ground(frame there).

  14. Heard a charter captain in Key West say to a guy on the other side of the boat "Don't be shy let it fly" . My wife and I took the cheap wal-mart stuff 2 hours before the trip, we were fine. This was the first time I ever paid for a charter and I wasn't taking any chances. Poor guy had a rough 3 more hours.

!Caution! drinking rum and coke on that stuff WILL knock you out :)

  15. I have the aqua vu with the cam rigger kit. This is the camera nature vision had before they switched to the fish bodies. I tried using it hooked up to my dads downrigger that only had a 10lb cannon ball and it blew back so far I think the lure was plaining the surface. I have yet to try it on my boat with a 12lb shark cannon ball. However I have used it several times perch fishing and I got to tell you there is nothing like it. You can see 12-25ft distances in 30-50 fow and it is amazing. If I drop the camera and see nothing but gobies I am in the wrong spot. When you see a school of millions of perch swim by it is a sight to see. I also exclusivly use the camera ice fishing and that is also a whole new world.

Never much liked the vexlars, however in merkey dark water they have advantages or vision.
