My wife and I decided to take advantage of the gorgeous weather and get set up for a new season. We started at 1:30 so I didn't expect much. Fished just south of the stacks, no one else around for most of the afternoon. Fished spoons and thin fins btw 20 and 60 fow. Nothing. Decided to pull lines at 5 in about 25 feet of water when I got hammered by this beautiful 21 pound King. Great way to end the day! He hit a spoon not sure what the name is- silver on one half, yellow and orange on the other half. My wife and I had a blast getting him in. What a gift this lake is!

We were south, ran about 3 miles just to go with the waves when we were setting up, it was a south wind so the north troll was the most comfortable. I did see boats by the power plant but we didn’t get that far south. I think the power plant is about 8 miles south of the river but that is just a guess.
Thank you very much (SalmonSniper)

One word comes to mind while typing this report and that word is TOUGH! We fished each day for a few hours over the long holiday weekend and only ended up with 3 total hits and landed 2 fish on the final day. Everyone we talked to had the same story most people got skunked and the lucky ones got 1 or 2 fish. We fished mostly 50-100fow with most baits near the bottom as that's where we marked fish we just could not get them to bite. The biggest fish of the trip came on a Michigan Stinger spoon in the glow watermelon pattern on a rigger down 70ft. We also some how managed to lose a fish hawk probe when the rigger cable decided to snap as I was changing lures not a good feeling watching it sink to the bottom of the lake! We still had a great long weekend on the water and the weather was near perfect!

Headed out despite the bumpy ride with some family that insisted on going out - started north of the harbor in 110 FOW and trolled with the north winds. Some marks here and there - a few areas of bait - but very little on the screen and nothing to show for it...el skunko!
water was 42-43 deg 100 feet down....Had the whole water column covered - not even a knock off!
Where are all the fish????

Fished out of St. Joseph Friday 6-15-18. Went deep to 200 FOW (12 miles out). Waves were 2 Ft or less, so the run was easy. Started with a mixed bag line set. Noticed a bit of a scum line in the area. Caught a chunky Coho on a medium Mixed Veggie spoon about 30 Ft down. Then another hit on a Brad's bait with canned Tuna in oil out on a planer board using 50 YD. copper. It was also a Coho. So we had a trend going. Changed all lines to Coho and Steelhead spoons and (3) copper lines with Brad's bait. The fish of the day picture is attached. A nice Steelhead hit a spoon on a Down Rigger. Knew it was no little Coho right away. Saw the usual tail dance and managed to get the fish to the boat. Ended up with 11 Coho and 1 steelhead for the day. A good time was had by all.

Fished 70-200ft, 1-3 ft rollers, surface temp 60. 2 for 3. First bite broke my hook on my RV MS Blue Jeans and took off. Second bite was a 9 ft piece of orange snow fence that wrapped around my prop. I had to hang on in a very challenging position to cut it away. I lost about 30 minutes while I worked on it. The final hit made it all worth while. A 22# king, taken with a Mag RV Flounder Pounder, on a 270 copper, 2.3 sog, east troll in 195 fow at 11:41 am.
Also ran into another owner of a boat like mine only a foot shorter up from St. Joe on a coast guard exercise.
Very nice boats I always got a kick out of u being little boat I’m on 1775 tyee , Uber the 270 copper used to be a 300cu , we also seen a lot of debris in water from high wind and waves , half a picnic table , partially burnt fire logs and some unforeseen object which stole my weighted steel from behind board and a new moonshine lure 1 st time they were in water, glad I also didn’t lose offshore sst mag board .

These fish are gorged on Alewives, Big Alewives. I have marked top to bottom schools in the area, I believe that most of the fish I have taken are not stocked fish. Not one had a clipped fin, all really healthy and really angry. I grew up in Oregon, my brother fishes there, when I sent him pictures of our catches he replies that he fishes for 8 to 10 hours, and get 2 fish, that is their daily limit, they are limited to 1 rod per person, and have to use barbless hooks, and must release any wild (non hatchery) fish. We here in Michigan have it pretty darn good. I am 72 and started fishing Lake Michigan in 1973, I will bet we get some fish over 40lbs this fall.
I agree with a prominent sportswriter commenting on our steelhead Salmon lk trout fishing , he was born and raised in Oregon and lives in Michigan now , he said , if I DIDNT live here I would Move here, Fish on , King Me!!!
