  1. Willing to sell one? Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  2. We always start out shallow, ten feet on ducer but boards are shallower. So much traffic this weekend so we headed out to the line and worked it back and forth to the Superior entry. Four hours went two for two. Sent from my iPhone using Great Lakes Fisherman Mobile App
  3. We were the first boat on the pond in front of the beach Saturday morning. Trolled from the Duluth to the Superior entries. Did not mark a thing until we were close to Superior's entry. Water temps ranged from 36 to 44 degrees:eek:. After a few hours the circus showed up, lot's of boats (probably due to it being such a gorgeous day). In six and a half hours we had three bumps, all on the dipsies. Came home with one coho. Never saw a net lifted. Was told out of three charters only one coho was caught. Plenty of smelt and fish chasing them on the graph. Just too cold too early. Hopefully in two weeks the water will warm and the fish will be more active. BC
  4. Frank, the current temps are 36 to 38. The smelt are starting to show up to spawn and that usually brings lots of predator fish. This weekend highs are predicted to be near seventy. Hope the wind cooperates. BC
  5. Got out two weeks ago on a gorgeous Saturday and trolled the Duluth entry up to glen sheen and back. Not a bump. Lots of boats out then. My son ran the sand to the superior entry and had one bump but no hook up. Landing talk was similar results, it's early, water temp needs to warm up. Just wondering if there are any other reports that might be more recent. B. C.
  6. Great video. What type of trees are those? I like them👍
  7. McQuade is a great late summer, fall fishing area. Spring you want to be on the sand, Park Point or better yet the South shore. South shore is Wisconsin water so you need a Sconnie license which is well worth it. Try to touch bases with me this spring and maybe we can double team em with our boats.
  8. Al, if you are fishing the North Shore of Superior you should be fishing spoons that mimic the baitfish that trout are looking for. If you are in search of lakers then smelt and small herring are what you are emulating. Those are the feed that most all predators in Superior chow on. Alewives are not the source like what most of the Great Lakes have as forage. Stop in at marine general and pick up some Jims flashback spoons. They work awesome when trolling. If you are just casting from the North Shore pick up some little Cleos. They have some weight which will help you get out there and have action that most trout can't resist.
  9. Meat in the fall for lakers-Duluth port-Lake Superior.
  10. BCLII, I'm pretty new on this site also. I launch out of Duluth. Welcome!
  11. Crestliner, never thought to look there. Thanks scottie! Those are wicked graphics.
  12. I have been looking high and low for those crazy fish bone decals. Could you tell me or guide me where to look for them? They look awesome on your boat!
  13. Turfwrench, I really like the smoked windows on your Chieftan. Did you do that yourself or have it professionally done? The glass on my Chieftan is perfect, but knowing from past adventures on the big pond I realize it would benefit significantlly if I had mine smoked. Wondering if the old car do it yourself window film would work.
  14. Thank you Frank! Appreciate the welcome. I was on this site years ago but decided to jump back in. I know I can get lots of help and ideas for setting up the boat. Very excited to begin. I retire in five years and plan to have her cherried out so I can spend as much time as possible on the water trolling.
  15. I've got a picture of her over in the boats section. New to the forum and am having a hard time figuring it all out on my phone. Not the most detailed picture but gives ya a good idea of her potential. Will post big time when I begin the project this spring.
  16. Corners then sides is where I would like them. I want the back open for fish fighting. I know lots of people put them where you do and seem to have no problem. What size power house do you got? Mines a 302. Wondering what she will hit at top speed. Bought it with muffs on so no idea how much she's capable of.
  17. Thank youTurfwrench. This helps tremendously! Trying to keep the riggers out of the back but we will see come spring. Where do you plan on remounting the mast? Actually thought at one point doing what you did but I'm a big guy and it would be a tight fit.
  18. Aaron, sweet set up, alas, my mast is manual. You did give me some good idea though the way it's designed. Boat is under wraps and I have one picture of her which I'll find later and post. By design, I believe I will have to mount my mast system on each side and at about mid ship. She has a big cuddy and I don't think I will be venturing out on the gunwales to get up front when it's choppy out:eek:. Another problem is the dog house is a large cover that goes from side to side. We want to build a standard doghouse, but that would leave little room to get to the corner riggers. Might have to build a rail system and just step up on the exisitng cover. The corner riggers would be on the rail. I know it's hard to envision and wish I took more pictures before putting her to sleep for the winter.
  19. I got the green light to put 2 grand into her from the wife right at the get go. I do need an older kicker as my 9.9 just wouldn't cut it. Project begins this spring and I will post pics of the processs.
  20. Hi guy's, bought a 1972 24 foot Starcraft Chieftan as a project boat. She runs fine but needs lots of tlc. She's never been rigged for fishing. I fish Superior and ocassionally Michigan and want to get her dialed in. Only paid $800 for it, trailer included. I have downriggers, boards, all the gear and was wondering if any of you have any pictures of a boat like her that's similar or same so I can get some ideas. I have a bigjon mast for my small boat and want to use the reels off of that and somehow fabricate trees with these attached. It has a newer camper top and was wondering if anyone else has one and built/uses rocket launchers. Any tips are appreciated.
