Now sea cat I don't have a fish hawk so mainly I look for bait and temp. I know salmon prefer 43-46 degree water temp. If I see bait and good temp outside the channel I will fish there a little. My question is how do you know what colors are hot and what locations are hot due to the temp and brightness of the day?

Thanks guys, don't get me wrong I know june fishing is tough, and I never have a predetermined set up I was just wondering if my speed would be alright. If you guys can give me some tips on perch fishing the grand haven/port Sheldon area I would greatly appreciate it? I have never gone for perch on the big lake.

In June when guys are getting 8-10 fish I am only getting 2-5, now I know there are a lot of variables but my spring set up seems good. My spoon program doesn't seem to catch as many fish as my flasher fly, plug, and meat program. Is this due to my speed or just my presentation? My presentation for June usually consist of 6 rods, two downriggers, two braid divers, a 225copper, and a 10 color. On sunny days spoons are yellow and green in the top 50, one paddle on rigger 70-100ft down, and mountain dew hypnotist set up on braid diver down 40-60. What do you guys have to say about that spring set up? OH I don't have a fish hawk but my surface speed is 2.0 to2.7..

i had a day this year that i got skunked. Corey on tammy too charters had 47 hits and we didnt get zip, we were also fishing side by side. The thing he was doing i wasnt was running yellows in the top 45 feet of water. I had paddle and spoons low expecting the usual summer program. That day still drives me nuts.

Spring time brown trout fishing.
I have fished out of grand haven and port sheldon all my life, but i have never broke the ice and taregted some browns and lake trout before in the early spring. if you guys could answer my questions i would greatly appreciate it.
1: how deep do you troll by the shore?
2: what color, size, and kind of floating raplas are you best producers?
3: what lb test mono do you use?
4: what temperature do the browns start fire?
5: what size boards do you use.
6: do you get a mixed bag of steelhead and lakers too?
I know i am a green horn but i would gladly apperciate your feed back.

i fish out of grand haven and port sheldon. Run 20lb mono on riggers of course with 10 to 15 lb cannon balls. Also i will let you in on a secret, as being a first mate i learned not everyone does good when others do. in late july through spring run silver horde green splatter back plugs #4s, usually on coppers or 10 colors. on the riggers when the fly bite is on trust me, run dreamweaver 11in paddle 28in leader to a poofster or oceana fly, works every summer no matter what. run them 65-95 ft down, when you are fishing in 80 ft of water or more. on cloudy days run blue bubble spinnies with a poofster or a blue bubble fly. hope that helps. oh one moe thing troll 2.0 to 2.7 with flies and plugs later in the summer, early when the spoon bite is on run 2.5 to 3.0.

big weenies are the best flies hands down!

set your divers so the weight is toward the boat on setting 1 if you have walker divers, this will push the divers away from the boat a little bit.
I need a first mate job!

Hey charter captains, I am looking for a first mate position from june 21st to August 15th out of Grand haven. I fished with Jim bard on "it I'll do" as a second mate when I was 12-15years old. Last year I couldn't get my first mates license because I was 15, but I still got out 9-12 times with capt Brian Butts on "sea flea" charters out of chinook pier. Please email me on this address [email protected].
Thanks Blake Yant
