Sand with 400 grit sandpaper first. I would try enamel as it chips less. It dries slower. Non spray paint like Rustoleum should hold up better. Their white primer is good. Yes let it dry before painting. Lacquers are nice as they dry quickly but chip. Has anyone tried hobby paints?

We like your posts and seeing your nice fish. Is it normal for the steel head fishing to pick up late in the season? Thanks

Public meetings on future Lake Michigan salmon stocking scheduled 

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has scheduled two public meetings in west Michigan next month to discuss Lake Michigan salmon-stocking proposals.

The meetings will be held Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ludington City Hall community room, 400 S. Harrison Street, and Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the South Haven Moose Lodge, 1025 Wells Street.

Much information has been swirling throughout Michigan and other states that border Lake Michigan on how fisheries managers will address future trout and salmon populations. Lake Michigan’s Chinook salmon population has been steadily decreasing since its peak in 2012, mainly due to a decline in the salmons' primary food source – alewife.

In light of these trends, the DNR is considering a Chinook salmon-stocking reduction for spring 2017 and also is reviewing Lake Michigan’s growing lake trout population (another top predator of alewife).

My boat is 32 years old w a steel tank. I drain it down to 1/2 a gallon each year, add 4 oz of oil and a small amount of stabilizer. I looked inside this year and no rust. I know some recommend having it full- what do you do?

I learned that prices on them vary a lot. Tractor Supply was the only place close that had mine and wanted $22 for 2. I went on Etrailer and got double lip seals with the spring tensioner for $7.50 w shipping- took 5 days.

I have trailered my 18 foot Starcraft for 32 years- it still looks great and I suppose has caught over 200 salmon. I once estimated it's been towed over 35,000 miles. It has a flat cover w a fold down windshield to increase fuel economy. I'd like a better hull to take the waves but guess I will keep it. Good fishin.
