  1. My reasonable price is adding up to not so reasonable. Has anyone had experience rewiring the motors on a Cannon Mag 10A? I have searched for help online but can't seem to get anywhere. I am not worried about the warranty because it seems that the motor housing was previously removed. I am already too invested (new booms, rod holders, switches, circuit breakers, and boots) to scrap them. If anyone can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. The downriggers both work but the power cable looks old and is badly crimped.
  2. I just purchased two used Cannon 10A downriggers for a very reasonable price. I will need to replace the booms, pulley assemblies, and the boots for the switches. I have looked online and really do not want to spend $70 for an extendable boom. I would like a boom that measures 36". Does anyone know where I can get two for a fair price? Also, I want to clean and grease everything that I can. Does anyone know what type of grease and where or if I could find a manual for such a purpose? Thank to all for helping a rookie out.
  3. I am going to go with the platform/deck mount. If you are familiar with the Bayliner 185 the deck does not extend past the rear off the boat. It should work with reinforcement. I am going to consider either rigging additional support to the side cleats or rope harness on the back. My only fear is making it too rigid outside of the bases. Hopefully the wife won't be able to say "I told you so" if I tear the back of the boat off.
  4. I am going to try and install a trolling bar on the back of my Bayliner 185. The only place that I think will be strong enough is on the back deck/swim platform. I plan to use 6" Bert's track and mount two 12" custom made risers. The deck itself does is already reinforced with what looks like 3/4" plywood. I want to make it as strong as possible so my questions are: What material should I use for additional backing? Starboard, plywood, steel? Should I back the mount with the largest amount of material to help distribute the load? How long should the booms of the downriggers extend past the prop of the I/O? Thank you for your help. Bradley
  5. Thank you Sherman. I was looking at the Daiwa as well but the convector may just be more budget friendly. I am starting from scratch so if I can save a little here and there it will help. I am going to the sport fishing show next weekend and may find a good deal or two. I did find the convector for $62 online and I thought that was a pretty good price. Who knows, I was set on the magda line and then justified spending a little more. Who knows, if I keep justifying I'll end up with Clarions.
  6. Thank you Frank. I have been doing research and happened to come across this site the other day. I must have already read 1,000 threads. Just trying to learn as much as I can.
  7. I am new to this site and trolling. I have noticed that a lot of people are satisfied with convector reels. Would model cv-30d be sufficient? I am just going to start with two DR rods and two dipsey rods. They will most likely be paired with medium action Shomano TDR's. I am going to try and use them for walleye and salmon trolling.
