  1. After a night of fun combat fishing for salmon in port Muskegon we decided to head out in morning to South Haven for perch. One foot waves, clear skys and 71' water temp. Left with 42 nice white bellies, caught in 52 fow out from state park using minnows and shrimp, jumbos comming on the shrimp. This being one of our better trips. The better fishing was late afternoon, left at 5 pm and fish still hitting hard, but the long ride home and still tired from the night before we headed home, to clean fish for second night in a row.
  2. Before Memorial drive just north 2 mile before state park/bath house.
  3. Straight out from the Sugar Bowl, 100-115 FOW, watch out for the nets, seen several boats frantically pulling lines around the 70 fow:eek:
  4. Me and my hubby set out of Muskegon with my son Jacob on his boat Fishmael out of Muskegon and set lines in 100 fow just north of pier 6:50pm. Had first hit on rigger 50 down and lost the first big fish of the night at 7:05, blue dolphin. From that point on it was game on. Wire divers in blue was next, and continued to stay hot all night out 130 feet, in the 100 fow. Seven color, lead core, amd copper all did well too. Rigger 50 down produced several fish also. The action was fast, hot, and heavy by 9 pm they had a two man limit with one for mom to boot. Went 11 for 15 by sunset and headed back to port, what a fun night.
  5. Went for the perch 8-6 in South Haven first time in 20 years came home with half a dozen((INSTEAD OF 2 limits) . Water turned over to a cool 59 degrees, to cold for the fish and to cold to swim (and salmon gear back in Muskegon), despite the rain we still had a blast just being on the water. Would like to go again this week, so if anyone hears of the perch biting it would be greatly appreciated. With the price of gas and being a 70 mile trip gets pretty pricey. Thanks
  6. Beautiful skies temps in the 80's we decided to head out to the big lake, looking for the elusive perch out of port Muskegon. 3pm we head out north of muskegon pier to 130-140 fow and marked fish right on bottom. Here we fished until 5pm with no bites reminincing on limits of perch in past years where did they go? Decided to troll to port and call it quits. 5:30 first hit on rigger in 142 fow 50ft down, on a handpainted hot pink 70's coho charger. Landed and boxed a nice steelie in 3-4 rollers without falling out of the boat. 15 min later in 135 fow another hit on rigger 50 ft down on NBK at a 1.5 speed troll, got her to 50 ft behind boat where she danced on the water and spit spit the NBK at the hubs tellng him who was boss. 2 more releases same water none boxed in next 30 min, then washed lures back to port. Beautiful day ended with supper in the box a nice tan and flat waters. Gotta love Michigan.
  7. Hi. New to the site but not to fishing. Me and my husband (Tom) have been fishing together for past 40 year but new to salmon fishing on Lake Michigan and all the new techniques and terminology. Thanks to my son Jacob he has turned us on to trolling for salmon on Lake Michigan. His boat is the Fishmael out of Muskegon and has been a great teacher/mentor. Who says you can't teach old dogs new tricks. We left Muskegon this evening and were 3 for 3 in 100-127 fow north of Muskegon channel. All were on down riggers one on pink panties, with a 19# king caught by my daughter in law Renee using a lure I believe called mongolian beef (it was a monster). It was a beautiful night calm seas, warm air, beautiful sunset, and 3 fish in the box. You gotta love Michigan
  8. Hello everyone my name is Tom been fishing for 50 years mostly bass, perch, and pan fish. Did alot of salmon fishing in the 70's. Reintroduced into salmon fishing last year trolling Lake Michigan out of Muskegon by my son Jacob aka:fishmael and determined to master it. He also introduced us ( my wife Brenda and fishing partner) to this site, which we have been browsing and find it very helpful. Hoping that some time in future wll be able to post some big catches like all of you. So far we did get one 13lb king so we have had that first catch that gets you hooked. We do have a good mentor (Jake) who seems to box his fair share of salmon each trip. Looking forward to all the tips we can get on this addicting sport of salmon fishing. Tom and Bren
