  1. Ya I was thinking the same thing about waiting to fill the reels. I just wanna be ready when I get there. I am actually hoping that the fish are high. That make me alot more comfortable. I usually troll 20 to 30ft deep for walleyes with dipseys or jet divers on Big Boards. I am hoping for a 40 to 60ft bite In Aug. But that is probably wishful thinking!! I am setting up 8 poles strictly for salmon but I am also bringing 10 walleye poles with 30lb Power Pro. My charter captain that I am going with has me wigged out about the fleas and braided line. He also told me U guys don't like guys with big boards. If I am not a water hog I think I should be alright. Thanks alot for the Info!!

Sure wouldn't surprise me! usually more like 50-80 down.

  2. Hey Matt,

I grew up in Ludington so I have been fishing my whole life. I know a lot of mates and captains. I always thought about it too but never did either. Now I work my butt off but still fish almost every weekend. Once you start working you will get burnt out no matter what you choose to do. During the summer I go to work just to get a break from fishing!!! If you can afford the liscense it doesn't hurt to have but work your way into it.

  3. Yup, the coated cable issue is WAY overblown IMO and personally I'd rather have that, than drill additional holes in my transom below the waterline to install yet another transducer.

I finally replaced the coated cable for my depth raider last season after getting 6 years out of the original one. Had it down over 160 feet last season with no loss of signal.

I had an old Fish Hawk 840 and put up with that unstable POS for years before I finally scrapped that in favor of the much superior Depth Raider.

My fish hawk is older and very unstable UNTIL I got the newer probe. Haven't had a hiccup since.

  4. Well I will throw my report up even though it is similar to the ones already posted. Kind of a weird weekend for me. Ran south Friday morning and fished 35-45 fow. Tons of bait but couldn't get them going. Around 6:30 finally took a fish in the light (no early bites) and by 9:00 we were on our way in with 9 nice fish. That night went out and hit one right away and lost it in deeper water. Went three hours without a hit so moved back into shallow water. Finally at 9:00 the fire drill started and ended up 7-11 by 9:30. All big kings. Saturday morning fished the circus out front going 2-5 both slobs. Passed on Sunday. Monday morning started in close. All the traffic and cold water I said screw it and ran 15 miles. Didn't get set up until 7:30 and could stay hooked up. Ended up 5-16. Overall good weekend.
