  1. Ive been trying the whole Salmon/trout fishing thing for the past 6 years with limited success. Basically my knowledge has been based on what I have seen others doing and is more of a guess in terms of patterns, weather, and reports from other anglers. My first time out was at Lexington where we caught 7 fish on spoons right in that first sandy cove there in the harbor. I watched some younger guys who were using glow yarn hook up with a fish every Minute and a half and I was hooked.

There seems to be a wealth of information on here that I would like to tap. Im starting to put more money, time, and resources into this as I try to get better.

    Here is what I know.

    1. Casting Spoons/cranks ie J-13's etc (there really isnt too much to this is there? cast and retrieve)

    2. Using spawn... This is really the ticket I think... Most the fisherman I see are using this in some shape or form. basically seen one rig looked like an egg sinker tied with a palomar knot and the tag end about 18 inches had either the single hook or treble with the floating spawn sac.

    3. Floating spawn? No idea how this is done.

Obviously there must be different rigs and nuances that I am missing. It could just be that I am in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I also believe that chance favors the prepared. I just dont feel that I know enough on this. Sorry if this has totally rambled on you guys. Any help on Rigs, Places, techniques.. is GREATLY appreciated.

    Thanks again

    Cris

  2. Got to the Black River mouth about 5:30pm yesterday evening. Lots of people on the North wall, and lots of people not catching anything. Only heard from one guy that caught anything and that was a small Coho. Emerald Shiners seemed to be the hot ticket there. Fished at the River mouth till about 8 pm. Had a fish chase and strike at a spoon right at shore, and some Jerk in a boat come ripping in the mouth at breakneck speed taking half my friends spool off his reel. (didnt even have time to get it in)

From there went to Lexington to try some luck there but to no avail. Total ghost town. got there about 8:30pm and fished till 12am. The only other fisherman we seen there were actually leaving when we arrived. Had one small tap on a spawn rig, but no hookups. Im thinking it was just too warm, and im hoping with some colder weather it will turn up again.

  3. Awesome GUYS! thanks for the info. I will be going to Port Sanilac from the sounds of it.. I have an large amount of J 13's and Cleos... are guys doing well there at Night? Also ive constructed a new rod holder thats hinged for using spawn on the rivers... Ill post some pics on here when done and you can tell me what you think.

Thanks again for this information! Awesome.

  4. Great site guys as I am new to fishing this side of the glove. I was hoping for a little guidance on some locations and run reports on Lake Huron.

Ive checked some maps and noticed some harbors like Lexington, Port Sanilac, Harbor Beach, and Port Austin. Do these areas produce good fish or is the run already over? Also I was wondering on local rivers, access, and best methods. Any help would be greatly appreciated considering the season is coming close to an end.

All information is greatly appreciated! Take care and tight lines!

    Cris.
