  1. Like Mark said, two happiest days of a boat owner. The day you buy it and the day you sell it. I know the feeling, haven't had the money to upgrade the way I'd like because I've been doing to much repair and maintenance. But we've actually got a few trips out of it this year so it's all coming together. Gotta take care of it so it can take care of you out on the lake. I try not to be too hard on the old girl because she was neglected by the previous owner. A work in progress for sure, and probably always will be.

  2. One of my favorite "tricks" is to run an inline planer board with a short lead for steelhead. I'll take a 1 oz rubber core sinker 3' ahead of the spoon and only set it 20-30' back from the board.

One choppy October day I was solo and had a planer out like mentioned. A rigger line and a Slide Diver out. I caught 5 fish on the planer and never got a touch on anything else. Tried to duplicate with high lines with the others and no go. I think it gives the spoon an up and down action when the board goes over a wave you don't get any other way. I always have one line like that when the waters cool on the surface.

  3. Very cool. Saw a lot of familiar gear. Some early noodle rods equipped with Shakespeare 1810 closed faced spinning reels. Loved those reels and still have a couple in the garage. Saw some Mitchell 300's and 306's, too. 306's were my favorite heavy duty salmon reels in the river. Loved those sideburns, too!!! And the cars! We had a 64 Chevy just like the one the guy had who was getting the ticket. Priceless.

  4. Was just curious how many here use a two wheel drive pick up for a tow vehicle? I need a new tow vehicle and I've run across a deal on a 2wd thats almost too good to pass up. It's an 2004 F150, I just have to verify what rear end it has. I know it has the towing capacity, just a bit concerned with launching/retreiving since I'm so used to 4wd, but can't really say I've ever really needed it. I have a 2160 Crestliner Eagle which weighs less than 5000 pounds totally loaded. I'm sure I won't be using it on icy ramps. Any opinions will be appreciated.

  5. Same here, black. I used to fish on my cousins boat years ago. He had some gaudy bright yellow and flo. green weights. All he would fish with was 4 down riggers and spoons. Nothing else! No dipseys (he hated those), no planer boards (hated those too), flasher/flies (those too). I finally quit going with him because I'd always chip in on gas and we wouldn't catch crap. The last time I saw him fishing was at Port Sheldon. We had separate boats and my buddy and I were hammering them in my boat. We limited out and he was actually following us around trying to connect. We finally loaded up and went home with a cooler full. He got blanked, not a fish. Obviously he had other issues and the ball color wasn't the only reason for his lack of success I'm sure. But he sold his boat the following year.

  6. Thanks for the info and specifics. I think they might have a time and place. Another good point is what Matt said about being user friendly for reeling in the fish, which is important for my wife and kids. And with some common sense might be able to use them all summer when conditions allow. Found some plans for some custom triples that look really stable in a chop I might try to fabricate. I'll pick up some OR17's, too.

  7. Well, it's winter project time again, and I know this has been covered in the past a time or three, sooooo..... I've ran inline boards for years with my smaller boat and was thinking maybe it's time to get a pair of big boards set up for spring since I can fish 3 or 4 people in the boat now and can use more lines in my bigger boat. There's a lot of different options out there and any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated on board types, releases, reels ( maybe rail mount etc...), line?????

  8. Apparently Lake Assault.

Thats the thing that bugs me the most. Ya know this was a pretty highly publicized accident. You kind of sit back and wait for Lake Assault to make some kind of response.. Nope, nothin'.

Maybe the boat was overloaded with gear and batteries, riggers, weights, 4 stroke on the back? Dunno. You would think it would be something LA would be concerned with. Guess not.

You've all probably seen the Lund video with the hull drilled full of holes and floating just fine. Makes you wonder how many boats out there would fail the same flotation test, doesn't it? I plan on putting extra flotation under the gunnels of my old Crestliner this winter.

  9. Well, I'm down again. Finally got a little time off to do some things to the boat and get it out. Realized the gas tank was shot and was running on a smaller remote for awhile and got sick and tired of limited range so pulled up the floor and pulled the main tank out. Yep, it had several small holes in the top of the aluminum tank. Looked and looked for a compatible tank (44 gal). Finally found a Moeller OEM tank that would work. Now it's been on back order for a month. August is shot. I'm hoping for some Oct. fishing maybe???????????
