  1. I was going to ask you what your handle was on Greatlakes Fisherman!! That's too funny!! The guy wenching the boat in is my first mate (a.k.a. my husband, Mike) LOL. I'm a little more partial to your boat and your set-up. I've got to put a new terminal end on one of our side riggers. The cable got caught on a dock post and snapped the sucker. Never had that happen before!! Next time we'll have to chat a little more!

  2. We didn't even bother with those shorter ramps when we came in. That's just asking for scraping bottom. Hope they put the rest back on them and don't leave them like that. Grant, what were you guys fishing in? The 2 guys that came in just behind us caught 1 coho. They were in Starcraft Islander. There was a Great Lakes Fisherman decal on the side, I can't remember what the name on the back said. We were in the white and teal ProLine being pulled by a lifted white Ford F150.

  3. and I also have to add that the guy that was working down there for the state was a really nice guy!! He was helping people launch their boat, cleaning up and talking to everybody that came in from fishing. Super nice guy!!! He says things are going to be run differently down there now. At least the fish cleaning station will always be open.

  4. it was for sure because it hit when I was setting that line. Hit on a trout pattern J-9. Thought we were going to have a smokin' day but it didn't happen. Couple guys we talked to one had a coho and the other caught nothing. When we were leaving there was a mixed bag at the fish cleaning station. They had a nice haul. At least 1 of everything.

  5. Never smoked suckers before but we've got a smoker now and I'm trying it out today. I've already brined the fish and it's setting out right now to form the pellicle. We gutted and deheaded and cut the find off and then cut the fish in 2, bigger ones in three places. My question is, is 150 degrees for 2 to 3 hours enough or 2 much?? what do you guys recommend.

  6. how are those marinas, sunset and thomas. We went out of Beedle Bay last year and barely got out. Hit a rock with the prop, too. We've got a 23' ProLine with a 350 Mercruiser. Looking for some deeper water to go out in. We had a ball though fishing Wildfowl Bay. It was Memorial weekend. 4 man limit in about 3 hours of fishing. We were drift fishing crawler harnesses.

  7. we should be good then. We have a 23' cuddy and I think we run about that deep in the water, also. We got bunks but our trailer seems a little lower than most. Thanks for letting me know! We never did get out today but got a lot of yard work done.

  8. Has anyone on here launched out of Port Sanilac yet this year? Heard they are having some issues launching down there because of low water levels. They said mostly fiberglass boats. I'm assuming they are probably on bunk trailers? Any info would help. Wanted to go out this afternoon when the hubby gets out of work but really don't want to make the drive if we can't launch. 15 miles is 15 miles when the gas prices are so high.

  9. Seen your motorhome and trailer down there this morning! Glad you had fun. I think Border patrol and coast guard are going to be a bit of a pain all year this year. There's been a big drug smuggling ring out of Canada hitting our shores. They did a drug drop at nearby Sandusky airport and they nabbed the car doing the pickup out on the runway. After all the investigations have been said and done, they found out they have been doing drops north of Lexington, around Port Sanilac and what not. I guess a couple tried to get away and they finally apprehended them in Alpena. I figured this would happen. I told my husband that the one day when we pulled into Lexington Heights and out on the high banks sat a border patrol with his binoculars scanning the horizon. Hopefully after they see you a couple times, they'll leave us alone.

  10. I hope so. I talked to one of my buds that owns the bait shop and he said he was told by the harbor master that the state says there has to be modifications done to them to make them wheelchair accessible. I guess the harbor master is getting pretty ticked about them not being in yet. THey were already in for almost 2 weeks this time last year.

  11. Give 'em hell!! It wasn't us that decided to do this $10 plate deal (not complaining one bit, I love it). But now they can drag their feet getting the docks in since they already have our money. Those docks in Port Sanilac could have been put in 2 weeks ago. And as for the new ones, B.S., Lexington needs new docks before Port Sanilac does. Port Sanilac just needs to learn how to get them in straight.

  12. I have faith they'll get those docks in straight! I hope.... Funny how a couple days changes everything. I was down in Port Huron Thursday and decided to go down to the river and it was full of flows. I see there is still quite a bit ice on the Canadian side. I drove lakeshore all the way up to Lexington to head home and once I hit the high banks and could see out far enough, there was a lot of ice over there. I hope the winds stay out of the west and keeps it over there! We've got our batteries charged but we'd like to make sure the temps are going to stay up because we have an inboard. As long as we don't get a real hard freeze for a couple days in a row we'll be ok but I'd be nervous if it stayed cold for a while after pulling the boat out of the water. Probably really nothing to worry about, but better safe than sorry. Blocks are too expensive!

  13. is there a way to add pictures on here by sending an email? I use my phone because we don't have a computer or laptop. Was wondering if there is an alternate way of doing this other than uploading files. I add photos to facebood this way. You send an email to the designated facebook email for photos, attatch the photo as a file and boom, it shows up on you facebook page.

  14. Thanks, Frank! Didn't see info on how to get a permit but they had the phone numbers listed for the National Forest, probably the ranger station there in Oscoda. We want to stay at the small rustic campground just west of the whirlpool, off the same drive. Don't know if your familiar with that spot or not? We usually stay at Old Orchard but now that we finally have a generator for our camper, campground comforts aren't necessary.
