  1. Wow that's really crazy. I've caught less than 10 fish on spoons this year and over 350 on flasher already. Guess sometimes it really does make a difference from one side of the lake to the other. Weve been running full blown flasher fly spreads since early May and they haven't slowed a bit. The white hotspot with green oilslick tape and an aqua fly has been awesome and a white fishscale coyote with boy blue fly has been good all season also. Green just started kicking in also.

  2. anybody know where I can find the big body down rigger locks for the cannon Mag 10's. I searched the internet and they are discontinued. Somebody somewhere has to have some.[/QUOT

The new style, or old style Cannon's? I'm assuming the old if they're discontinued. I have a brand new lock (still in the box) that I ordered a while back not knowing that it wouldn't work for the new style. Let me know if your interested. Just pay what I paid ($32.99) + shipping if you want it.

I'll take it. Is it just one?

  3. Well fishing slowed down a lot over the last week here. We had 3 days of hard east winds and it was the first warm water we have seen this season. Combined with the full moon and it was a recipe for bad fishing. We fished deep, shallow, north and south, and until this morning nothing great to show for it. 5 fish trips on Friday and Saturday and 12 this morning. The fish that did bite came on white hotspots with the green oilslick tape and aqua flies, and green pro trolls and aqua flies. Today 65fow was best. Looks like we should get some cold water this week and maybe some better fishing by the weekend.

  4. I know everyone can't afford a speed and temp unit, but gps speed means nothing. If you want to do well with flasher flies you have to know your exact speed. For example this last wekend if my speed at the ball wasn't 2.0 it meant the difference of only a few fish versus non stop action.

  5. Trying to get my flasher/flies to go with no luck. Question: Probably not the problem but do you tie fly leader directly to flasher or tie on a swivel and snap on to flasher? What is best knot to tie with heavy leader line?

I ran them on riggers and dipsey on Saturday morning with no luck. My leader from dipsey to flasher is around 10' and from flasher to fly is whatever length the BW flies come with.

Anyway, thanks in advance. Much apprecaited. This big lake fishing is addicting.

    Dave

Dave, just tie an overhand loop knot, just like the first knot you ever learned as a kid. Put a bead on your line then tie you diver directly to the main fishing line,( unless a wire diver then put a swivel on so you can take it off.) Reel it all the way to the tip attach your snubber to the diver and tie on a lead a little shorter than the rod length. A 10 ft leader is to long to land fish effectively. Just remember a diver is supossed to be loud and aggresive, that's what you want. Not a stealth setup by any means. Tie your flies 24 inches from the tip of the loop to the head of the fly. Troll 1.8-2.0 and you'll catch fish all day long. Don't change that speed or leader length and I guarantee you will catch more fish than if you did.

  6. Not a good start to the weekend. My dad went to the boat about 1:30 today and found the cabin door open with our downriggers missing. Thankfully that was all that was missing. So if anyone sees 3 Mag 10's and a depth raider probe for sale let me know. Just had to drop 2 grand to get the boat ready for tomarrows trips. Talk about wanting to kick someones a$$!!

  7. started in Racine two days ago! Thursday afternoon were still limits, but tougher. I heard Friday afternoon was really tough. Yesterday I struggled and caught a very very tough 12 fish. I could have walked on the amount of fish that were under the boat. I just hope it starts up again before Thursday for the Morris tourny in Winthrop Harbor!

I'll bet Morris is going to be real tough. It's gonna take some careful prefishing to win that one. We did get some nice kings this weekend. Got to go slow though. 1.4- 1.7 was as fast as the king would take it. Every time we got a little fast around 2ish we would get a few cohos but no kings.

  8. By the end of the weekend and next week fishing is going to crash. The lake is starting to setup. Your going to mark tons of fish in the bottom 3rd of the water column and wont get a bite. Most catches will be less than 5 fish. Good news is in a week and a half their will be lots of kings around. Now we just have to wait and see if I'm right. So if you find fish stay on them, and if you get a flasher fly combo working load every rod with it!

  9. seems like you have been doing quite well. I would be careful changing too much when things are working for you and your boat. Sometimes people lose their mojo chasing what others are doing and end up really frustrated and confused. Its happened to me before on tough days.

I have some good friends/captains that are excellent fisherman but we fish totally different. What i do won't really work for them and vise versa.

    very true

  10. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On a depth raider your most productive speed is 1.8. The only time to go any faster is if you are steelhead fishing. Sure you will catch fish faster but not nearly as many or as big. If you keep your speed right their everyday, thats one variable you will never have to think about. When I had a subtroll it was 1 3/4mph.

  11. I am going to try leadcore for the first time this year looking for some speed tips i know the faster i go the higher it runs but what is the best speed

I would keep your speed over ground on your GPS to 2.2 to 2.6 mph.

  12. My wife and I went out of town this weekend so Captain Gerry and Captain Luke Fished Saturday. They had a great day and a limit by 8:30. Started in 50ft and trolled to 110 with the best being 70-90. A mix of 8 kings 2 lakers and the rest cohos. Sounds like a broken record, but orange spin doctors and aqua flies on the boards and white flashers and aqua flies on the riggers and divers. Nice job guys!
