  1. I think it's a waste of time and doesn't produce any better results. I used to do it for years and the only thing I have noticed when switching to all 20# mono is more fish in the boat. A lot less break offs on angry kings. Like someone else said Line diameter doesn't really matter to kings. Walleyes maybe?

  2. Believe it or not Jim we used to do that well. About 3 years ago everything changed though. 20 fish was a slow morning averaging 30+ was typical. Now I'm happy to catch 10. Thank god for those lakers that have been showing up or it would be brutal.

  3. It don't make a bit of difference and is a big waste of money in my opinon. Just another gimic to catch fisherman not fish. If a fish doesn't care about your diver and flasher in front of your bait it certainly don't care about what kind of fishing line you have. There's way more important stuff to focus on than floro versus mono.

  4. The only speed that matters is your speed at the ball. But also keep in mind that can change too. For example current direction has a huge role in your trolling speed. I know alot of guys say watch your rods bend or the tips thump if fishing flashers, but if you have some lines above the thermocline and others in and below you can bet your speed is different at different depths. So if your high diver is cranked over and your probe rigger is above the thermcline, and you are trolling with the current, your speed might say 2.2. Now if you drop that probe rigger into the thermocline and current it might say 1.6. big difference in speed. If you check your speed high and low you will see this alot on strong current days. Thats why alot of guys struggle when the current is ripping, only half your baits are trolling at the right speed. For me, my speed, trolling direction, and how my spread looks are the most important part of the game. I've been using the same baits since early May and their catching fish consistantly each trip, but I think it has more to do with the above mentioned.

  5. I use shimano talora 7 foot rods and shimano charter special reels. 20lb big game. The drags are super smooth and they also have a lever drag. If you fish deep with your riggers these are the best reels for the job. The lever drag allows you to set light tension on the drag as you drop the cannon ball and then once at the depth you want engage the drag fully, no need to crank up all the slack line from your thumb being on the spool.

  6. If I didnt work every tuesday I would join the club, seems like a lot of really nice guys but the job seems to get in the way with a lot of things. I was pretty surprised at the low catch numbers, I know a lot of guys stayed in shallower water thinking the big kings were there. I caught two kings in the teen's range out deep, the fish seem to just be stacked out there. 200FOW+ is my bread and butter, I dont worry about the fuel costs to get out there I just want to be on the fish.

The fish were in shallow on friday but after the wind on friday night it changed alot. The fish scattered and if you landed on them Saturday morning you did well, but it changed for everyone. Their were some MONSTER coolers friday. We caught 30 fish friday morning without much effort but Saturday we only caught about 15. Shoulda kept a few of those 6 pounders we tossed back hoping for the same results as friday. Only weighed in 8 fish for 81 pounds. Shoulda, coulda, woulda, everyones got a story though.

  7. Depth Raider all the way. Talking about customer service, we had an issue with interference with our auto pilot. So yesterday the owner of depth raider came out on our boat to personally correct the problem, wasn't his products fault, but the auto pilots and he went above and beyond to correct the issue. Another plus is all depth raiders are calibrated to the exact same speed and temp, so if you ever loose your probe you wont have to try to find that sweet spot all over again.
