  1. Fished 7/19 around Saugatuck in 50-65 fow. Went 7/11 mix of kings and steel. 5/7 color cores, 150 coppers were best. Took one on a mono diver back 120 on 2 with a green flasher/fly set up. Otherwise, all spoons in silver streak mini, stinger, and stingray size. Orange crush, nuked veggies, wonderbread were best.

Fished 7/20 with the girls off the sliders. Went 3/8 with a kings and a laker. Had a great time with loud screaming everytime a fish hit. Hillarious to watch them fight fish. Similar sets as above. Have not had a hit on a magnum spoon in the past few trips. The bait I have pulled from their stomachs has been ~3".

Following are pics from the past 3 trips.

  2. Fished south in 40-100 fow both days from 1700-2100. 6 for 8 on saturday and 4 for 8 tonight. 5 yr old and his dad got their first fish. All kings and steelhead. 3/5/7 color cores were best with either regular stinger or mini streaks in oranges. Riggers took a few fish with blue dolphin and ludington watermelon streaks being the best. One 18lb king on a mono dispsy/green flasher/proctologist fly back 100 on 2. Seems the AM bite is better than the PM. Current was pushing hard from the south tonight may warm things up a bit.

  3. Sorry for the late report. Fished with Ben Lubbs 6/17 PM. Ended up 8/11 with a throwback. All kings form 6-15 lbs. Fished out to 140 SW and then moved back in to the 120s. Riggers 50-65 down, 300 and 400 coppers were best. Best spoons were SS chilly willy, double trouble and flounder pounder.

Had two friends out 6/18 AM. Fished 0630-1200. Ended up 8/14. Don't know what was up with the farming fish. Fished 80-120 FOW with 100 best. Wire diver back 100-120, high diver back 120, 150 copper and full core produced fish. Riggers 40-65 down. Best spoons UM froggie, glitter glow, tequila sunrise.

  4. Fished with two veterans out of Bay City 6/19. After a late start we headed west of the spark plug near the dumping grounds. Ended up with a bunch of short fish in there and muddy water. Pulled, headed east and found cleaner water. We took two legal fish each pass and lost another few from 26 to 25 ft and then had to head in. Spinners in chartreuse, glow and white. Managed to take fourth place with a 23" fish. The vets were all smiles. Would be awesome to do something like this on southern lake MI. Great event Nels!

  5. Fished Mosquito Bay, Chic. reef, and Mill Pt. Limits both days. OH charters are thick in Mosquito Bay for this time of year. The eyes are in there but are mixed with sheep and a few dink eyes. I moved to the east side and found some big eyes hanging around the structure adjacent to deep water. All on harnesses. Here are the pics.

  6. Fished with a friend this AM south in 170-200 FOW. Went 11/16 from 0700-1030 with a small king released. The rest were mainly 3yr old kings. 225 and 300 coppers armed with Mag super screw and black chilly willy were best. Also took fish on tequila sunrise, UM frog, and green dolphin. Wire diver 90-120 back with a green back/black eye UV streak went 3 times. South troll was best.

Went back out this PM with a couple buddies and went 8/12 in pretty much the same water/spread with a mix of kings and lakers. Headed in early when one crew member was ready to add chum to the spread. Being sea sick is no fun.

  7. Fished with a buddy from 0700-1130. Ended up 12/16? with two small kings released. The rest included 6 kings(7-14lbs), 1 stealhead, 1 coho, 2 good sized lakers...needed a brown. Best depth was 170-180 south of the harbor. Half cores took most of the trout and one king. 225 coppers and riggers down 40-50 took the rest. Best spoons were SS green dolphin, tequila sunrise and super screw. Nothing on flies or meat.

  8. 5/20 Trolled south to Saugtuck in 55-65 FOW in the fog. Found fish in warm dirty water north of the piers. Went 8/14. All stingers and silver streaks in greens and oranges. 5/10 colors of lead, riggers down 30-40, and high divers back 80-110 all took fish.

5/21 Trolled into the same area to find the fish gone. Picked up and headed out to 140-180. Went 4/5. Flashers with mirage and hypnotist flies worked fished 80-110 down. Slowed down considerably for us.

  9. Fished from 0630-1130. Had a friend and his 5 year old on the boat for their first big lake trip. Went 9/12 in 55-70 fow. All kings from 10-18lbs. Finding warmer water was key for us. Half and full cores were best. Riggers down 30/35. Dipseys from 70-100 out. All fish on spoons stingers and reg streaks in green dolphin, tequila sunrise and glow frog were best. Will try to post pics later. Tight Lines.

  10. I own a 10 year old 1900 Pro V SE with a 150 Opti/9.9 kicker. Purchased it new from Winn Matteson and had him set the boat up. They do excellent work and are great to deal with. The benefit of a Pro V or similar style boat is the ability to easily fish multiple species. You can jig the Detroit river in the AM, troll Stoney Point in the PM and fish salmon the next day. They trailer well and allow you to stay on a hot bite. Lund boats are well built and the IPS/IPS 2 hulls will take on some pretty wicked water. These are very stable boats with wide gunnels and wide transoms. They handle 2-3 footers well. When you get into 4s and 5s, things get wet and pretty bumpy when running. I am not a big fan of fishing crap water, but have been caught in stuff I had no business in and the boat did perform impeccably. With gas prices I would look into a 4 stroke kicker. Having two engines is a godsend if you lose the big motor.

The main negatives are the lack of a head and exposure to the elements. Many also have short gunnals that bother some guys. If you fish alone they can be tough to get back into if you get wet as most don't have a swim platform. Three anglers is fine, four is a crowd.

Recently Lund came out with a boat called the "Sport Angler". I have talked with a few guys that have them and were very pleased. It has the higher gunnels and a removable seating system. Good Luck in your search.
