  1. About the throw rings, Ludington had a metting last monday about adding them at several locations along breakwall. The big hold up is they need approval from the Army corp. engeneres who actually own the breakwall. There were rings installed many years ago and they kept getting stolen. This summer has has at least 5 deaths on Ludington breakwall . The city is also considering puting a gate at first bend that will be locked during dangerous times, but agian await Army corp engeniers approval.

  2. Ed was dead on.Alot of people fishing p.m. river at twin bridges but I have not heard of any fish caught yet.P.m. lake has been busy but agian its very slow fishing.Last night we had 9-11 ft waves Ive saw no boats out today in lake mi,a few in the p.m. I wish I could help more, but after this storm its anyones guess, but if you have a lil boat p.m. or lincon lake mouth might be happing, Sable river does not allow any mototized boats, also no treble hooks and only 1 hook can be used and it must have less than 3/8 gap and that is strictly enforced by dnr in state park.Good luck and be safe if you go into L-mich

  3. The wife and I went to the city boat launch here in Ludington last night and took video as well.As wild as your video is that was calm compared to here. I will work later this afternoon to get video posted as I"ve never done it before . There were wave splashes at least 20ft higher than light house! The video shakes alot as wind was shaking truck badly but we got some great action, the best was watching tourist partially out on break wall getting there high dollar cameras soaked and running for safety after a wave hit, thank God no one was hurt. But great video Mike, that boat ride was insane no way id do that....

  4. As mentioned nets are north by state park bathouse. If you are not familure with area Do Not TRoll east- west in front of bath house ( brown building) or you will get caught in nets. Alot of mixed reports right now, some claim fish r starting to come into P.M. lake and I saw 8 boats there this evening? But as mentioned there are alot of boats up at the Point, and some very rude and will not make any effort if they are headed towards you to change coarse. Good luck and have a safe trip.

  5. The fishing has been very toughf the last 2 days, but as mentioned Captian Chucks is the place to go!!! If you dont have it a green ladder back j-plug is a must.According to charter reports when fish are found they just arent biting as water temp varies every few feet right now. Good luck and safe trip..

  6. I would start with ground at battery. It did start so engine wires must be ok? Guages not working steady usually is from a bad or weak ground wire. good luck !I had engine problems recently and my 4 yr old grand daughter found a hanging wire under dash!!! sometimes its just something so simple its overlooked.

  7. I lived in Jenison ,mi for 8 yrs and fished the Grand River for years and every time there was a storm G.Rapids and the Jenison water treatment plants overflowed into river. I love to salmon fish rivers but not only could it be smelled but seen after a heavy rain.I have no idea how they were allowed to let this happen on a regular basis? Both of these plants are located less than 100yards from the river and they keep storage tanks 7/8 full and any rain and it goes into overflow pipe and straight into river!!!!!

  8. thanks for all the great suggestions! I am using 3/4 plywood standard grade, as I cant get marine wood in Ludington. This floor is going in my 1966 Starcraft Holiday, she wont win any beauty contests but its paid for and a very simple boat with alot of floor space. The wife wants to get a bigger boat with a cuddy for the grandaughter to be able to watch tv when she gets restless .So I , WE,@#$ SHE decided to use Thompson water seal gold I had extra laying around. I didnt get much say in this,lol...I hope it will last another 5-8yrs as we plan to sell boat next spring anyway. But THANKS to all who replied,Ill add pics later today.

  9. I found 1 soft area in my floor so im replacing all of it. Plywood has been removed its ready for new plywood but im unshure what to coat new wood with? It was painted before, im wondering would thompson water seal be better or something else any suggestions? It sets outside all summer uncovered because of downriggers and rod holders I cant put a cover on it,I cover it with tarp in winter. It appeares roofing tar was put on bottom side of old wood and it was in good shape was only soft on top surface. Thinking maybe truck bed coating on top surface? thanks for any suggestions

  10. For the past 3 weeks ive spent all my free time trying to get my outboard started! Its always ran great, but suddenly it has no spark? I wrote down amplifier model number and was going to order one tomorrow to the tune of $275. I Was going to take granddaughter up the Pier Marquette today in our lil 14ft, She was under dash getting her life jacket out when she told me " Silly grandpa boat wont run if wires not on!"Now she is 4 years old!!!!!!Shure enough there was 1 loose wire off key switch, I hooked it up, hooked up garden hose to motor and it fired right up!!!Well I decided to take her to Dairy Queen, then afternoon movie and to the Beach ,and now she informs me she will help me work on my boat anytime I need help!!!! lol God Bless Her......

  11. In ludington whe had a plane crash at point area out aprrox 5 miles and its been off limits because of 4 passengers on plane missing and they dont want added trafic around crash area. But I did hear today that Coast Guard was calling of search this afternoon. Per Ludington Daily News article.

  12. I Have 2 church boards and i had hard time with them in as littel as 1 ft waves. As board hit wave it would drop back then shoot forward, I was using 30lb mono I think it was the mono stretching ? I switched to 40lb power pro and no more problems. I had others aboard who use theses boards and they could only tell me to change to braided line. I did notice when useing boards on my dipsy rods without dipsey that helped as rod didnt flex as much.

  13. I dont know them only read ludington paper today and will pass on what was said. Best chance two was seen by 3 other boats including their tournement observer on all thre boats that, small Fish were skipped across surface and they were seen repeadely using net hoop to free small fish from hooks by reapeadly poking them to dislodge them so them didnt have to submit small fish. The observer from best chance has not publicly commined yet. I pass no judment on them but it seems a bad practice but im shure they are not the only boat that was doing this? The investigantion is contuing per ludington daily news today.

  14. I was in same situation 2 yrs ago. Living in Ludington It was much easier than I thought, most of my gear I got at garage sales. Older lowerance fishfinder gs from retired charter for $1oo ,he even thru in a extending net for free ,2 riveria long arm manual downriggers for 35.oo diseys for $2 each.I have several downrigger weights Ive found as low as $5 each . nothing wins a beauty contest but it got me started. Ebay is where i got most of my rod holders , but as others mentioned study values as some items on ebay go for more than what they could be bought new when you add in mailing cost. My first and most active rod is my full lead core . Meijers has it for $14.oo for 27lb . GOOd luck and this site is full of info ,but alot talk about gear but you dont need the high dollar stuff to catch fish it is just boat jewelry to most, the fish dont care just get lures down to them they dont care if you are using a high dollar rod n real or string on a tree branch . Use what workes, cant afford downriggers, use dive bombs, cant afford new fishfinder , anything is better than nothing, and as you use your gear you will learn what you like and what works for you.And when money is there you will have a better understanding of your needs.

  15. I have 4 accudeth 57lc and never had an issue with any of them , i run a full core on 2 of them the other 2 for riggers. My favorite is my 2 gt32o,s they feel solid and very smooth i run disys and boards off these.

  16. this just sickens me to hear of how greedy Michigan has become and to not follow treatys made with Native Americans because of money.I wonder when mineing is done the state is held accountable for river and land contaimination. Issues like this should be resolved by Federal courts as usual they start work without it and the state of Mich allows this in the year 2o1o

  17. I agree with Yoda, I have 2 full core setups both with ugly stick 7ft rods $22. at wall mart and both have diawa 57 line counter reels . I have had no problems with mine and any more than 3 colors out and rods have a slight bend i like to them. Ive been told these reels have been discontinued but they can still be found for $ 50.. I have 4 penn 320 gt2 reels I use for divers and love these reels but they run just under $100. Id say you can go cheaper on rods but not on a good quality reel.I bought my Peens so I wouldnt have to keep replacing worn out reels, they are costly but should last a very long time 20 yrs or so where cheap reels come with cheap quality and may only get 1 or 2 seasons out of them and if they fail will you be able to get replacement parts? good luck hope this helps
