  1. My bimini top will be on for shade! It'll still be a great weekend for fishing. I'm looking forward to it. Any fisherman that have always been interested in tournament fishing, this is a great experience and fun with some really cool fisherman. It's a good time.
  2. Caz- I own a Yahama 90hp 4stroke and did manage to find less expensive(STP if memory serves me right) non-yamaha filter. I don't remember the number on it, but I'll be fishing your tournament tommorrow. We can pop the shroud and you can take a look at the number if you'd like. Generally speaking, equipment manufacturers do not make thier own common components, such as oil filters. They normally contract them out to some company that makes millions of filters and pay extra for a different paint color or logo. --Jason
  3. I'm a mechanical engineer. I currently work for Flowserve(Kalamazoo plant) who is into fluid motion and control products. By night, I help run a certified black angus beef farm with dad and little brother. Our 300acre farm was started by my great grandfather a LONG time ago who had nothing but a few acres and a garden sized farm. In 'spare' time, I fish :-)
  4. I agree with the military sediment!! They work hard and make us proud. As of lately, congress hardly worked and has little to be proud of. On a positive note, at least the republicans and democrats have found common ground............
  5. My favorite port is the one my wife wants to fish out of. She's the hottest fishin' buddy! ;-) In regards to fish, I normally fish from S. Haven or Saugatuck. S.Haven is the closet port to home, so that gets the most action from me. If I have the time, I like to take weekend trips up to Charlevoix due to the really nice area, wine grapes, low boating traffic on the lake, and I know some of the bartenders in the area.
  6. How in the world do you catch a fish 1100' down? WOW :-)
  7. 2004 F150 FX4 package around 17mpg driving general driving 14mpg towing the boat 12 beating on it around the farm :-)
  8. Catfish--I feel your pain. I had one of my crew members drop out at the last minute as well. Fortunately I still have one. Are you driving up from Twin Lakes? The reason I ask is because I'm near Twin Lakes and was wondering about how much time I should alot for travelling. I'm excited to be in this and looking forward to meeting some other people who enjoy great lakes fishing! Thanks for putting in all of the time and effort to organize this league, Caz. See ya in the am.
  9. I used to be all about the quantity until we had a very large one on and lost it last year. I still have the lure it hit and damaged as good luck token. We fought that fish for what seemed like an eternity, but was actually around the 10minute mark. We got glimpses of it and I missed out on landing the largest fish I've ever had on. Maybe as I get older and wiser, I'll get the chance to get one like that again, only land it. The exitement of that one large fish was awesome! Although, I won't turn down the quantity either. :-)
  10. That's a nice log sheet. The little map area is pretty cool, especially in this day of gps systems. I'll post an image of mine when I get home to my computer. I'm at work now :-(
  11. I custom made my own log book with microsoft excel. It is very basic and only has 'essential' information. I print out the pages and just put them in a binder. This will be my third season using the log.
  12. I'd say part of the answer to this question is in the confidence you have with the quality of your reels. I've read many of the same articles about using light line to land large fish. Me personally, my best reels I feel completely confident using the 15lb mono I normally use. I have a couple of 'sketchy' reels I'm not as confident with I'll use 20lb mono. I also use snubbers on all of my divers with heavier leaders. I don't carry any line other than leaders heavier than 25lb. Although, to be honest, this will be only my 5th season fishing L. MI, so maybe I'm not best person to listen to..........
  13. Fished out of South Haven thursday night 4/13. We got 3 out of 4, two cohos and one decent king. I suspect the one we lost was a steelhead by the way it jumped, but I'm not for sure. The king was a modest 9lbs while the cohos all ran in the 5-6lb range. No monsters. All of the fish came over 25-30fow and about 15 down. The hot lure(I LOVE this lure) was a pink rapala Xrap. An Orange spoon produced the other two hits. Fished again Friday night 4/14 and never got the skunk out of the box. Missed one. I tried all of the same things that were successful from the previous night with no avail. The miss came off of a blue and yellow glow spoon running 15 down. It's way too early to be skunked this many times(3 on the year). I think I was skunked only 4 times the whole year last year! Good times
  14. cool article! I found it pretty informative as to why some of my lures glow longer than the others.
  15. Trolled out of South Haven morning of 4/2 1 steelhead came off a black and silver x-rap on a southern troll over 15fow and about 5feet down. slow morning, but fun nonetheless. tight lines
  16. I have a ragtag team that'd be interested if there is still room. Thanks, J. Jerz and 'da pirats'
