Hey .....I was fishing the other day and lost 4 Lakers on my favorite Stinger HAMMER , so I checked the hook , couldn't even scratch my thumb nail , so I switched it with a Gamakatsu 2/0 octopus hook and let me tell you , the next 5 Lakers that hook was barried , do you guys think that was because of the new sharp hook or do you think the single hook hooks up better ????....I bet this topic was discussed many times , but I could not find anything ....Thanks, Mark

i never stold the fish....lol

First of all where I fish for Lakers here in Central Pennsylvania the Lake is Raystown , when the Army corps made the Lake they cut down the timber 40 feet from the bank where they thought full pool would be , so there is a ton of standing timber in the lake . So when I hit the lake the deepest I can troll most of the time is 35-40 feet , Hence I load up all my gear that I thought was junk or worthless and I use it there so it doesn't matter when I loose it . The other day I put on a size 51 ALPENA DIAMONDS spoon in silver plated color and the Lakers just went nuts over it so now I am dragging them on small dipsys 48 inches of 30# florocarbon small white Spin Doctors (6'') and 25'' of 30# florocarbon and then the ALPENA DIAMONDS spoon on power pro 30# 75 feet back . They out Producing the riggers 12 to 1 ....most trips in the last couple days I have been getting 13-25 lakers . most of them on the dipsy , little spinny , alpena diamond spoons ...anybody else ever have good luck on those little spoons ??.....But I do get my bigger fish on the 8 inch Spin doctor and Big weenie Fly combo...Mark

ok ....I guess I am going to run 2 wire divers and 2 riggers .....that will be enough to keep me busy.....:D:D

just as I thought ......

I just set up 2 wire rods with twili tips .....20# 7 strand camo ...I am going to fish the Finger Lakes in New York .....I had 2 Power Pro already set up .....I am going to keep both I guess no use to tear the PP down , just another tool . thanks guys
-
on the dipsey rods .....7 strand SS camo wire or 30# Power Pro???
-
on the rigger rods , I have been running 25# Berkley Big Game , I don't seem to loose any fish , my buddy runs power pro , he can't keep a fish on the line to save his butt.....
so my question to you experienced guys mono or braid???
-
A free slider is a 6 foot peice of mono with a snap swivel on each end. Put a spoon on one end. After your downrigger is set take the other end of the the mono and attach it to your line. It will slide down to the belly in your line between the tip of your rod and where it is attached at the cannon ball. When a fish hits the slider your release at the cannon ball will trip and the swivel will slide down to the other bait. Land you fish and enjoy.
I just started doing this year ........and let me tell you it works like a charm .....I run Spinnies 10 feet from the ball 40 feet down , slide the spoon an a 5' piece of florocarbon with a Michigan Stinger wammy my catch rate went up ....I was averaging 4 fish per trip , now 14 fish per trip usually 3 bigger fish on the Spindoctors and from 7-10 fish on the spoon slider that I would have never gotten before....I feel like KING DING ALING of the Lakers at my home Lake Raystown.....BUT ......MY BIGGER FISH ARE ALWAYS ON THE SPIN DOCTOR FLY COMBO
-
I run the set 10 feet behind the ball with 24 inch fly on green spin doctors

I HOPE YOU GUYS DON'T GET TIRED OF LAKERS , I CAN'T GET ENOUGH.OF THEM ...
It was Laker mayhem at Raystown Lake in Central Pennsylvania ....lots of nice fish today ....The water was muddy and I worked the mudline and points .....marked tons of bait and fish .....Kovorkian Killer Spin Doctors with BigWeenie Flys in chartreuse and blues worked .It was hard to get my timing down on the pictures today , and the camera batteries were shot , so I used my cell for some pics .There was so much bait when the riggers went through the bait pods they vibrated and jumped around , then almost always about 40 feet past they fired . Put in at 11:00 got a late start , first rigger fired at 11:30.....thanks for looking and enjoy ......Mark
a few smaller fish
That stinkin laker had a SMELT hanging out of its mouth and a spoon out of the other side , looked like the Dreamweaver AD for SUPER SLIM SPOONS;;

Cool pics Mark!! I didnt know that there was that knid of fishery there. Great job!
I am more comfortable on the smaller lakes than the great lakes , since I usually fish by myself , but I had 2 great guys show me around some of the finger lakes this weekend .......a tremendous fishery on Seneca....thanks for looking...Mark

I was hoping you would be telling us how to catch fish (50 in a day) not asking us. I have caught loads of lakers I did not count off of a L Michigan shoreline during the fall run on cleos when I was targeting steelhead before.
I tried out these things called LAKER TAKERS that BIG WEENIE was selling , Paired them up with the JDF Baitheads and herring hung them off the riggers each side and drug 7 colors lead with just Chartreuse JDF bait heads and herring on the boards each side ..... worked like a dream ,doubles and triples constantly.......Lake Raystown in Central Pennsylvania .....BEST DAY OF TROLLING IN MY LIFE...DON'T GET ME WRONG IT DOESN'T HAPPEN LIKE THAT ALL THE TIME
-
It handles a bit nicer, darn stuff still tangles though.
My copper set up is in the bottom of the Quemahoning reservoir....won't be tangling up any more :D:D

I just found out that the gander mountian in Grand Rapids on 28th is have there sale to. They have a bunch of spoons marked half of and givin another half of that price so 75% off alot of stuff. Bunch of spoons for 1.47 and flies for 1.48 Hard to pass up that kind of deal. I was told if the price ended in 97 or 47 cents like 2.97 then its another 50% off
I just got back form our Gander Mountain bought 4 - 48 inch BERTS Tracks that were marked down to $39.97 and half off that made them $19.89 each , but they are satin , not brite silver , I'm cutting 2 down to 36 inches for the back and will have 2 - 12 in chunks for my mid side Saltys

50 a day
My guess is the same presentation from the fall would work.
I was hoping somebody would say that
that 50 fish day only happened 1 time but I did have several over 30 fish days , I had 2 quads and a triple on the 50 fish day , I was giggleing like a little girl , I got alot of video , but it won't download

Great Pics Polar Bear. Some nice lookin Lakers there and the Lakeshore behind you looks very cool as well!
Are those "Grease Traps" on your line or a different attractor? I have been looking at those on the "Big Weenie" site and wanted some first hand feedback on them. I spend 80% of the summer chasing Lakers as well on Lake Superior and am always looking at new tactics to throw in my arsenal
Fire ext was in my truck .....and yes it is a Greese Trap , Call up Gary and Karen and order a few ...make sure you tell them you talked to me ...GREASE TRAP GOES DOWN....LAKERS COME UP
I FISH 4 LINES (2 LEAD CORES AND 2 DOWNRIGGERS ), AND I SWITCHED IT FROM 1 TO ANOTHER , FROM THE LEFT TO THE RIGHT AND TO THE BACK LEFT TO THE RIGHT AND THE LAKERS ALWAYS CAME ON THE GREASE TRAPS , NOW I RUN 2 TRAPS , BUT THEY ARE A LITTLE MUCH $$$$$, I TAKE THEM OFF SO I CAN CATCH FISH ON OTHER GEAR. WHEN I GET SOMEBODY ON THE BOAT THAT HAS NEVER CAUGHT A LAKER , THE TRAPS GO ON FOR A WHILE , CATCH A FEW AND TAKE THEM OFF , I DON'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE A COMERCIAL BUT THEY WORK LIKE MAGIC

Polar Bear,
I'm from the otherside of the pond. What to get across and try some of the great spots you have over there. I wish I had some helpfull info for you and well maybe it is. Anytime I hear someone talk about 50 hits and 15 - 20 boated, my mind just sceams "tighten your releases and sharpen your hooks". No offense intended!
Best of luck this year,
Rod
not 50 hits ....boated as high as 50 a day with the average day being 15-20 fish in the 7-11 pound range, not big fish , but good quanity ...take a look at the pictures in the fish pics
