  1. I agree with Frank and say that Adam gave a good round up of baits.

When fishing deeper I like Reefrunners a lot.

One of my all time favorites is a jointed Rapala minnow (J9 - J 13) all season long.

When fishing with rod in hand, I run the lures off a 3-way, and swing the rod forward for a darting or fleeing action of the bait.

This time of year with such clear water and fish being shallow, I run the baits out away from the boat using in-line boards. Use an S trolling pattern to change action of the baits and cover varying depths till you find the fish.

  2. Everyone has their personal best choice.

As far as mine, I'm not sure what my next choice will be.

    I've had two fords, 84 Bronco 2 and 87 F150.

Very disappointed in the first and moderately satisfied with the second.

Although the new models look very good and the dealer is convenient.

Was also satisfied with a 65 International Scout.

Too bad they are not made anymore.

Probably nothing wrong with a Dodge either, but I just never felt comfortable in one.

Overall GM vehicles have been the best for me.

Will that be my next one. Don't know for sure as the dealer is not convenient for me but the Silverado does look impressive.

Let you guys know when I pull the trigger on the next deal.

Other than fluid levels, I don't touch much under the hood or chassis. Between disposal fees, parts prices and special pricing from drive through lube shops, I don't bother anymore. Tire maintenance and rotation I still do myself.

When it comes to recalls, they all have their fair share. Just, IMO.

  3. On the flip side, better now than June or July!

As far as brand, they all make good and bad units.

I bought a 98 4runner in 03. Bought it used. Was one of the better deals around at that time. Soon will have 250,000 km on it.

To be honest, all my vehicles have had issues. The current one isn't the best nor the worst, but my dealer is outstanding!!!

  4. I learned navigation and orientation early. I too can still navigate by compass and map.

For me a fishfinder is key. It helps to eliminate empty water.

For the big water, I have a handheld gps that I use to stay on the fish. This one I bought. Stores waypoints and all the info I need to come back to the same spot. Today, tomorrow or next season.

For smaller bodies of water like Lake St. Clair and the big rivers here I like the larger gps with charts. This one came with my boat.

I don't care for the combo units, unless I buy two, running one in fish and the other in gps mode. Redundancy can save you money in the long run.

So, if you have a fishfinder, then add the fish hawk and a cheap handheld.

    good luck

  5. Keep a paint pot of lacquer thinner or acetone handy.

Attach airbrush and spray until clear.

M-E-K [methyl-ethyl-keytone] is very aggressive and will soften and remove dry paint. IMO, I would stay away from it.

Whatever you use, be sure to wear impermeable gloves or you could develop a chemical sensitivity or worse other serious health issues.

    Take care.
