  1. I am already irked about the billions, and billions of dollars we are giving the banks, and the million dollar bonuses these companies are giving out.

I also have an issue with the government using U.S. tax payers money to bail out GM.

What has me irked, is that we are giving GM billions of U.S. tax payers dollars to stay afloat, but they are shutting down plants in the U.S. for restructuring.

Since they are using U.S. tax payers money, how come they are not keeping the U.S. plants open, and shutting down the plants in Canada, and other places instead?

You seem to think that no other country has given GM any money. Since the introduction of free trade, we are all in this together. I am all for fare trade, but not free trade. I expressed my feelings to my Government about this, but it fell on deaf ears as usual.

Canada and the United States were together during the days of the Auto Pact. But Free Trade with Mexico and who knows who else is in the works, has brought about unfair trade balance.

While the big3 danced around the world, the world came and conquered their market. It was theirs to lose and they did a good job! The last time I bought a used Toyota, after many big3 purchases, mostly GM and Ford. Now there are 10 Toyota plants in the US and 2 in Canada.

We all can see how poorly the big three have managed their business. Chrysler paid their top man close to 18 m$ last year, for what? A failed business plan, that's what! As Dr. Phil would say..........how's that workin for ya???? It's not!!! Are we the only ones who see this??? If we are, then then nothing will ever change!!!

Personally, I don't believe that anyone should have got a bailout, period!!!!!! I could support pension guarantees, as a retiree deserves fair treatment.

It's still not guaranteed that GM or Chrysler will survive. Although Chrysler is in negotiations with unions and Fiat.

    Here is a news link.

I work for a truck maker that made a billion in profit last year and is restructuring due to the downturn. Just too much capacity. The auto sector landscape is about to change forever.

  2. The Canadian government has scheduled a mass culling of the birds on Middle Island, a small island in Lake Erie and part of Point Pelee National Park, to begin as early as April 2008. This is an attempt to keep the small island in balance and preserve its vegetation, but opponents to he plan have pointed out that it is based on faulty information, provided in part by anglers who view cormorants as competitors. A website has been set up to provide information on the birds and plan as well as to prompt visitors to provide feedback and compel the Minister of Environment to put a stop to the planned slaughter.

The elimination of DDT, has increased their rate of reproduction and being protected allowed uncontrolled reproduction. Also they are not native to the Great Lakes area, but the introduction of alewife provided them with their favorite food source. When the alewife declined, they shifted to our favorite sportfish.:angry2:

  3. Well there Mike, you are very fortunate to be alive to tell about it. The type of trees you describe, in forestry, are called widow-makers.

It's best to leave these types of trees to fall on their own and then cut for firewood. The broken tops are very unstable and unpredictable.

Always plan you escape route and never push on a tree that should fall after the cut! Always walk away at that point.

Glad to hear you only need a short recovery. Rest and get well soon!

  4. As far as colour of a weight, I can paint mine any colour. Sometimes a selection of different colours is an advantage. Other times it won't make any difference!

The shark is mostly known for tracking true with little blow back. It also has a dimpled surface to imitate a baitfish signature.

By the way, the shark has a tailfin that can be bent, if that is your thing.

  5. When it comes to glow products, there are many variables to consider.

To get maximum glow time you need to consider the amount of charge time.

Camera flash gives a bright burst but not necessarily enough of a charge to do your glow lures justice.

Natural sunlight has the broadest spectrum of light. It's amazing the amount of glow given off when a lure sits on the boat deck in full sunlight for 20 minutes.

An ultraviolet light can be used to reveal the brightness of your glow lures and to charge them as well.

Just some of my own observations! Isn't cabin fever great?:lol:

  6. They had been fishing the area for over a week and crossed the pressure crack many times. The warm temps and high winds should have been enough warning.

When the ice started to shift, many were able to leave the ice by machine to the east by 5 kilometers, by way of solid ice. The ones who were not so mobile, had to wait for rescue.

The fellow who passed away, had a known heart condition. His snowmobile got stuck in heavy slush and he struggled to get it out. When it got stuck again, closer to shore, he had a heart attack. A companion helped with cpr, but he could not be saved. He was only 200 yards from shore.

People take many chances going out on the ice. Lake Erie is a big lake and rarely freezes over completely. If you don't have right equipment to return home safely, that should be the first warning!

  7. Totally agree and let's not forget those who still serve to preserve our way of life.

9/11 is a day that will be hard to forget for a long time. I still remember where I was as video of the twin towers was broadcast over the internet at work.

  8. One thing to keep in mind is that Oil and Gas are publicly traded meaning that the market sets the price. As long as investors think you will pay more they will raise the price so before anyone thinks the Government should fix this check your retirement plan and see how much you are making off of this cause as long as people keep making money off of high oil prices they will stay high. When they finally settle back down or wages and the rest catch up people will whine about that as well.

    Jim

One thing to remember is that oil and gas may be publicly traded but not free from influence. Opec cuts production and we pay more! Our oil refineries hold back shipments and we pay more! Governments increase taxes and we pay more!

Look at the inflated profits of the oil companies, while everyone else suffers! The price of gas would not be where it is today, if it was a true free market situation. There is no shortage of oil as there are enough reserves for the next 100 years. Those who could provide us some relief look us in the eye, lie and smile while doing so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. It's to bad that the whole thread was a setup, because there is a lot of good info shared in here...
I guess some good can come from almost anything.:)

Yes but it seems to me that all the good info came from our sharing membership and not the author of the original post. We share, because we care, and not to financially use our friends here.
