  1. The warranty was noted to be fore the original owner but like said that was before the change of hands of the company. Some of the older stuff is no longer availible. Fish307.com has a pritty good selection of parts. The older models were slow but it does not bother me. Like stated above I hit the switch right after netting the fish and the weight is there when ready to reset the rod.

  2. We arrived in Youngstown about noon on Thursday. Unloaded our stuff at the motel and hit the water for a couple of hours. We were able to go 3 for 5 for three hours of fishing, a decent king at 19 pounds, and a good laker at 10 pounds. The other fish was a king about 8 pounds. Water was cold and clear which made fishing a little difficult an fish spread out.

Friday we were on the lake and fishing by 6:30 after fighting the 3 foot waves to get out to our area. Again, we had gin clear water and tough fishing. We managed seven for seven. An 11 pound king was our best. The rest were 3 to 6 pound kings and coho’s mixed. The good note was that the stained water from the Niagara was moving out due to the wind dieing in the afternoon.

Saturday when we arrived to our fishing location we noticed The stained water had moved well beyond our location and we were into fish right away. We went 13 for 17 today with my personal best king of 26 ¼ pounds being the highlight of the day. A 23 pounder and several fish between 10 and 15 pounds along with an acrobatic 9 pound steelhead would finish out the day.

Sunday we went out onto the lake to find all the water to be stained. Found fish right away but they were all of the 3 to 5 pound class. We decided to leave this group of fish to see if we could find better size fish. We searched the rest of the day. Managed a good run on the wire diver out 200 feet, but lost it after about a 250 foot run. We went 11 for 15 with the best being about 10 pounds.

Over all a great trip, just the average size was a little smaller. There are some great fish out there but the weather needs to get a little more stable to set things up. Meet up with Storm Warning at the motel to compare notes a couple of days. A great group of guys.

Hope all went good for all.

    Tight lines.

  3. I ordered the brushed aluminum because that is what matched the two I already had. Just out of the package they seam a little more brighter than the older ones but I can not match them up due to the boat all covered up. :( If they are any different I will just pair them up together on each side so the two together are the exact same finish. My father and I both have bad backs so the ratchet feature is the way to go for us. We do not have to lean over the side to get the rod out of the holder. Worked great last year and my wire divers are very productive.

Tight lines to all. Can not wait to get the boat wet.

  4. I think I would like to add a couple more of the Berts Ratcheting Rodholders. A couple of years ago I had found a good deal on a walleye tackle shop and have since lost the web site address. I have found them for $55 at Big Lake Outfitters but do not know if this is the best price out there. Does anyone know of a better deal for these rod holders? Thank you for all your help in this search.

  5. GFL,

Many things effect the ability of your boat to maintain its speed. The debree or film on the bottom of your boat is a contributer. The weight of your boat will also effect the speed if you are collecting water there may be a problem.

The main situation I think you are seeing is due to the density (sp) of the water. Water is densest (sp) at I believe 39 deg. F. I find that fully rigged the week before I make the trip up to Lake Ontario I can obtain 42 mph on a home lake. When I arrive at port and run out on a flat calm day I can only obtain about 33 mph. I have spoke to many people about this situation and we have all agreed.

    Good luck and tight lines.

Sorry if there is a mistake anywhere.

I would like to thank my son and father for all their help in our fifth place finish. This was our first tournie and I am sure it will not be our last.

  7. Excellent post,

I would love to come over, but a 14 hour drive to make flies seams a little much. I would like to know were you get you matarial (flashaboo , mylar, or whatever it is)? Is it local or an internet source? I have used the material from Purple Taco before.

Thanks for the post, great job.

  8. I was just informed of this board by a good friend and needed to join in. Though I have fished Lake Ontario for the last 10 years I still concider myself new to the sport. I live by the coast in Massachusetts so I am only able to get to the big lake once or twice a year. I am hooked on the big lake fishing and hope to move closer some day.

Wish you all a great season to come.
