A good friend and my self made our annual combo trip to Portage Indiana for perch and coho . Fishing was nothing short of outstanding, we left the ramp around 8:30 and headed off shore to the perch grounds , about half way out to them we ran into some very thick fog but continued on and fished our perch limit with some very nice jumbo around 10:30. After that we headed straight south to the Gary light and made one pass from just west of the light east ,to the end of the wall and finished with our limit of good sized coho , all on custom painted thin fins from Silver streak ran clean back 75’ off the boards ,speed was 2.5-2.9, water temp was 36.0 to 36.9 . All done and back to the trailer by 1:30. Dang I love early season perch and coho down there. Here is a picture of the boats , and some of the catch.

THERE HERE!!! Wasn’t going to fish yesterday, decided to get some things done around the house, but one of my old Steelhead fishing buddies call about 11 and said let go to St Joe and try and catch a few Coho, so we did. Left the dock in Benton Harbor at 1:30 and as we cleared the piers we noticed quite a few people fighting fish in the south pier so we set up just on the out side and trolled our way down to the pump house and back to the pier. We did that lap twice and had 10 very nice coho and returned 3 for a total of 13. Great couple hour cruise for mid day. The bait were all the same as the day before 60-100 back on the boards with a speed of 2.7-3.2 with water temps of 42-43

Haven’t posted on here in a long time, mainly because I haven’t fished a lot in the past 3-4 years. Well I’m back, sorta.
I left the dock in portage with my dad and a good friend in search of perch about 8:30 a and after a week of rough weather it had the lake clouded up very bad to the point you couldn’t see more than about 12” down so about 11am we headed south to the Gary light and put the trolling gear down and finished the day at 2:30 with 15 very nice coho. sorry for not having a picture of the box but I do have a picture of the baits that worked. All custom thin fins 60-100 back on the boards. Spread was 2.7-3.0. Water temp was 42

It was pretty warm Sunday , seemed to be a lot of boats out , but every one was scattered , no one to the north , I think to to the mud flowing that way .

This may clarify a lot of things , go ahead and use your boats , you will most likely have to go to court to a case they will most likely be thrown out.

Tarrey (Sea Eagle) and I have been doing that for few years. Trouble is now we can't fish together during the lock down. My boats an IO so don't want to put into the water until I'm sure it wont freeze at night so may be awhile. Take care stay healthy and good luck fishing.
Same to you , makes me a little nervous going down there with all what going on , but if I do I will post a report like I used to.

Hi Terry,
Don't know if it has changed this year Because Tarrey E and I haven't been out with the Quarentine but in the last few years the trestle is open unless a train is coming and then it swings across the river until the train passes then reopens.
Dennis
thanks Dennis , I’ve decided this year it’s back to the way we used to do it , pull the boat to the fish instead of slipping and waiting for them to get to holland
-
Thanks for the report , does anyone know what the schedule is for the railroad trestle, as in when it’s open and when it’s closed , I’m thinking about going Sunday and haven’t been in a few years and my boat will not fit under it.

Very nice Terry, sounds like fun but Nii deep is out of fuel funds for the year and for me that would be a 2-bill trip....
I hear that John , I put 2 bills in it Friday and I think I went Thru almost all of it., but it the weather hold and overtime is reduced, I may just do it Sunday.

Holland 9-23
Had a great day, decided because the reports from 100-200fow have been dismal at best . I decided to Fill the DD3 up and take a long distance run offshore, and it paid off very well with a finish 10 for 18 with only one lake trout , the catch consisted of 3 nice steelhead , 1 lake trout and 5 nice coho. We left the dock around 8 am because im a firm believer the off shore fish bite better later and set up in 215fow and trolled straight west to 270 with only one 9 lb laker to show for it , there was a lot of marks in that area 100 down , just like every one has been seeing in the shallow water for the past month. At this point we made the decision to pull line and make another 12 mile run to 300 ft , at this point we reset and continued our west troll out , we had a fair amount of action but not a lot of fish in the boat , we decided to make a turn back to the east at the 360' area and as soon as we did the action resulted to fish in the box! With two new boat records , one was a 15.3 lb COHO, and the second and most impressive was a 17.41lb steelhead wich will be heading to the taxidermist. We continue to take fish and steady action all the way back to 290' were we ended the day , as a side note , we didn't mark any fish beyond 300 ft. Here is a list of what worked and our two master anglers!
1) Silver Streak UV Blue Dolphin 90 down on a rigger
2) Silver Streak UV Hat aTrick on a 350 copper
3) Silver Streak UV Slap Shot on a 400 copper this was by far the best, it took 9 bites and was ran on both 400 coppers
4) Silver Streak UV Lite Green Diva on a high diver out 200
5) Silver Streak Pink Pantys on a 300 copper
I did run higher line , heck every thing from a 100 copper all the way to a 400 in 50' increments but only took fish on the deeper rods.
surface temp out there was 72.6 and it was 64.1 at 95 down , best speed was 2.7-3.1 down
And here are the two master anglers, and other pics from the day

Holland Steelheaders first annual Veterans Outing
Just reminder for those that are not members, and those that are. This Saturday is the first every veterans fishing outing for the Holland steelheaders , where we as a club are taking a large group of veterans out for a day of fishing to show our appreciation for all they have done for their country . We are asking the public to come down to the Holland State park about 12:15 and line the north pier to show your support to all of our service veterans and your appreciation for all they have done and sacrificed. Nearly 50 boats will be escorted by the US Coastguard and Ottawa Co Sheriff department from Lake Mi to the Yacht Basin Marina

Fishing is still far out of Holland if you don't mind fishing for a mixed bag. Friday I left the dock at 5:30am with my dad and a couple old friends and set up in 70' near Tunnle park and headed south west. We set up from top to bottom with 4 divers , 6 coppers and 2 riggers and ended the day about 11:30 going 14 for 17 with 2 steelhead , 6 kings 3of them were shakers and let go unharmed, and 6 lake trout.
what worked is as follows.
1: Silver Streak Sponge Bob as a slider on a rigger at 60
2: Silver Streak Green Dolphin Glow back on a rigger at 60
3: 8" Closer Spin Dr and Chrome and yellow spin and glow in a rigger on bottom
4: Chrome Dodger and green glow spin and glow on a low diver on bottom
5: Lemon Berry flodger and same spin n glow as above on low diver in bottom
6: Chrome Frog spin dr and pickled sun shine on a hi diver back 200
7: mag Silver Streak S.O.G. Glow on a 250 copper
8: Silver Streak lite green diva on a 200 copper
The best depth was 120, speed at the ball was 2.4-2.7 and best direction of troll was S.E.. hope this helps here is a pic of the catch , sorry for not haveing picks of the baits lately but I can't seem to remember to bring a few sheets of copy paper to the boat.
