  1. Here is some info and you might want to make some calls for a marina. If I was you I'd only keep my boat on the Frankfort side and not the Elberta due to low water on the Elberta side. I cannot remember the name of the marina that my folks use to use but it has bathrooms and showers with it and right there in town for your wife to shop. If she like craft sales then go the weekend of August 17th.

Here ya go, check these links out:

  2. Thanks, Frank!! We currently fish out of a 22 ft Trophy Hardtop named Just Right. We absolutely love spending weekends on the boat and slip at the Municipal Marina in Manistee. It's the best port I've ever fished outside of Wittier, Alaska. Here's an older picture of the rig. The riggers have been upgraded to Big Jon Tournament series..

    Rich,

I'll definately be in touch for info on Frankfort. Do they have a municipal marina with transient slips like Manistee?

    Bill

Yes they do and it is only like 1 mile from the lake.

  3. Hey Mike!!

Yep...That is the same weekend as the Offshore Classic, isn't it..Well bud, nothing is set in stone yet. It was great meeting and talking with you this weekend, too! We definately need to hook up and burn a drag or two this spring! No doubt about it! I'll be talking to you soon, bud!!

    Casnik,

Frankfort is definately on the hit list this year. ESPECIALLY if Manistee is loaded with nets again!! The more I fish the northern ports, the more I like them. I will definately make a trip or two there this season!!

    Bill

Let me know if you like any info on Frankfort.

  4. Hi Caznik!

We primarily fish out of Manistee but if I bring the boat home, I can fish just about anywhere. Being in the middle of the state, it's a drive no matter how I look at it. (GAS PRICES SUCK!!) I've never fished Frankfort, but I'm really leaning on fishing the Benzy Frenzy this year. Before we started fishing Manistee, we primarily fished out of Muskegon. I'm very familiar with Fisherman's Landing. It just so happens that I was talking to another ?? member here ?? fisherman about your tournament this weekend at the sport show in GR. It sounds like a really good time. I'll definately have to check my calandar. If it works out, I'll be in!!

    Good deal,

You must give Frankfort a try and I like to go the weekend before the Benzie frenzy. The town of Frankfort is really nice and has a great campground called the Betsi River camp site. When fishing at Frankfort to, it gets deeper very fast and you only have to go out about 2-3 miles and you will be in 200' of water. I have done very good there on Memoreal weekend and Labor day weekend.

    Get up there and fish...:D

  5. Welcome to the site

So what ports do you fish? Have you fished my #1 port Frankfort and have you ever made it down to Muskegon yet. If you like to fish Muskegon check out the West Michigan fishing league and my other chairty tournamnet called the Dreamweaver and Big Jon chairty fun event and get signed up. This site is alot of fun and has alot of good times before every tournament I run at Fishermans landing. We like to have a few good outings before tournament time....:D Glf has a tournament event to called the stinger Challenge.....you are welcome to come to any of them.

  6. I have already thought of doing this. I see one major issue. I do not have the $$$ to get this going. I also dont know the ins and outs about running a magazine.

Ya I see what you mean but you think there is a member on the site that could be the main man to run such magazine because I know it would be to much work for you and keeping up with this site. You probly could get enough sponsors to run the magazine to so there would not be any cost for you and just maybe make a profite and better means for this site by people buying this magazine and seeing how much greater this site is. Man with 5 great lakes and member's from all around us there would be so much articles it wouldn't be funny. I'm sure Mike if you look around this year you could find the help and the right guy to run this magazine for ya.

    Rich :)

  7. Craz... and anyone else please give info. Looking at your set-up. How do you set your downriggers up? Meaning... Are the inside ones set deeper or shallower than the outside ones? Do you use the same type of weight/ball on all 4? Will you have the same lead length to your bait on all 4 or staggered somehow?

Also just general question on my boat the 1850 Tyee. That should be able to venture out a ways depending on seas of course but for the most part not need to be a shore hugger? - right. How far out do you go with yours?

Looking at your set-up... You run 4 riggers, what else will you normally run with that set? How many lines and what type of set-ups, boards, dipsy, 10 color lead core etc? Need info as to what else I should be looking at besides the 4 downriggers.

When using all four riggers. I use my inside ones deeper than the outside ones. But you can run them anyway you like to. When in my tournament or called fishing league, what I do is just run my outside riggers and not my inside ones to keep everything clear out of the middle to make it eaiser to net fish.(plus we have a 6 rod rule) I also use 12lb cannon balls to keep that cable as straight down as possible. The leads I will stagger till I find something that will work better. Most of the time I will set my lines back 35'- 50' depending on the depth of water you are in.

In my 1700 fishermen lund I been out as far as 10 miles and that is if the waves are flat to 1'. The most important thing I learned was. Is to have a big enough moter to get you back in right away just incase it is calling for a storm.

What I will use if I take out 3 fishermen counting me is. 4 Rigger rods, 2 dipsies, and 2 whatever color rods you like to use on the side with a offshore board. In my league events because we have to use six rods only. I will use 2 rigger rods, 2 dipies, and 2 whatever color rods you like to use on a offshore board. But depending on the fish, if they bite better on riggers I will pull 2 other rods out and run 4 riigers and 2 other kinds out.

    Hope this will help ya,

Its kinda easier to see your boat and show ya what you can do. With your 18' lund you can run whatever anyway you would like to because your boat has plenty of room.

  8. Hey Mods and Member's

I think Mike should start a Great lakes Fisherman Magazine and sell it in the stores. It would really bost this site if it had pictures of members from this site fishing or hunting. Also there is probly some members that can write some good articles on fishing the great lakes. Put in the fishing tournaments we have and all the outings. With all the members on this site all over the great lakes, it would be a pretty nice magazine.

Who says Mike should geter done.

  11. Nice job Rich. Man it's been years since I fished Lower Lake. The last time was when Ken was letting people park at the end of the road.

Well this year in the spring and summer time. If you like to I will take you out fishing there.

    Rich

Ps- The fish are to small for a pitch fork, so you may have to just bring a dinner fork with ya and throw at them..:D

  12. nice job rich, i tried to get out on great bear lake yeasterday after noon ,and walked though 8 inches of ice 20 ft from shore LUCKELY it was not that deep about 4 ft ,but i still got wet and it scared the s---t out of me ,so im DONE for the year!

    Terry,

Friday night we caught all those fish where you sat at when you went with us. We tried it there again Saturday night and marked alot of fish bit they would not bite good. So I went hole to hole all day long to get my 16 fish.

  13. Hello Member's,

Took a friend from work out ice fishing at the lake called Lower Lake. Fishing was very good and so was the nice weather. We started fishing at 4pm and caught 50 nice bluegills by 6pm. The hot bait was spikes and mousies with a yellow and orange ice hook. Looks like if the weather keeps on staying warm and it starts raining, there will be no more safe ice. The ice conditions are still good, but the ice is starting to melt away from shore. Better get out this weekend because it maybe the last time this year.

    Good luck to all,

    Caznik

  14. We have 39 boats in this fun tournament so far and still need 11 more. I had sometime and was going through the Benifite 4 kids web site and seen some of the kids pictures and stories of there hunts or fishing trips. Some of the stories about these kids got to me and I was very happy to see them have a great time on there wish. If you guys have sometime to read there stories and see the pictures its pretty nice to see what we all are trying to do in this tournament by helping out a young boy or girl make there wish.

    Pictures- http://www.benefit4kids.org/kids.htm

Also down below this page there is a vidieo of a hunt that you must see. Check it out- http://www.benefit4kids.org/newsletter.htm

11 more boats, come guys we can do it...:)

    Caznik

  15. I with you Mike,

I am going to feel sorry for the guys that have to fill up at marinas because of gas cost. Lets just hope that everything will work out and gas will go back down to where everyone can afford going fishing again.

    Caznik

  16. Nice job guys!

I went down to the lake I live on (Campbell Lake in Caledonia/Alto). I marked loads of fish on the graph but, they where not in the mood to eat.

    Hey Nailer,

Is that true that the lake that you live on has alot of walleyes in it.
