Hopefully they will see some returns/reproductive success with the Lake Trout they are releasing in the Western Basin.

Nov 9: The "bloater" fish, a deepwater cisco, was re-introduced into Lake Ontario offshore of Oswego, bringing the fish back to the lake for the first time in nearly thirty years, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and partner agencies announced today.

Oh yeah, gettin some good wind out there today on Erie, nice walleye chop.
When I look at Ohio's north shore and consider all of the abandoned industrial property and the soon to be shutdown First Energy plants, it seems a shame to even consider offshore wind farms, vs putting them on the shoreline. but it saves those power generation companies the real estate costs of developing on land if they put them in the water, so I imagine they will not quit pushing for them.

A fishery comprised of atlantics, walleye, steelhead, and lakers in Huron would be something I would gladly take an annual trip for (from Ohio). Hopefully they get the hatchery details/issues worked out and then we can see if a viable atlantic salmon fishery develops.

More than a dozen Illinois organizations announced the formation of a new coalition committed to stopping the two-way transfer of invasive species -- including Asian carp -- between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River basin.
HWS was formed in response to the need for Illinois residents and organizations to promote locally focused solutions, rather than wait for Federal agencies and regionally contentious lawsuits.

The author missed some key points to the article. Notes that Michigan/Huron are down 2 ft, and that the water must be going to Erie and over Niagara Falls because of teh St. Clair / Detroit river Dredging. But didn't look at where Lake Erie's water level was (it is down) and what the flow rate over Niagara Falls compared to its' historical rates (which are known).
FEMA, an agency for help, or just a joke?

Think of it from the another point of view. The FEMA employees are not the ones doing the actual work of restoration. They are there to coordinate and make sure contractors/workers get paid. the people fixing power lines, etc. pretty much all stayed through the noreaster. So why would we want people like the FEMA employees to remain in those particular locations during the storm. Why would we want to take on that kind of financial liability for little or no benefit. When the noreaster came in the plan should have been to get everyone out of the area and harms way who wasn't absolutely necessary. Then they return a couple of days later, no big deal and no loss.
