  1. The time I spent as a Boy Scout leader (scoutmaster) Was some of the most rewarding time I have spent. Keep up with the scouts. You won't regret it. I helped 5 boy's become Eagle Scouts and enjoy keeping in touch with them and their success.

Steve, Thanks for sharing your time too. Starting my second year and I would love see my son ( and the rest of the boys in my den too) take this all the way to Eagle scout!

  2. Mike,

Sure brings back good memorys doesn't ! Never had the pleasure of the bucket throttle control. That puts us right about the same age!

I was trained in Jet engine propultion. I served on the USS John Hancock DD 981 (decommed and cut up) for 2.5 years, Assult Craft Unit 4 ( you tube LCAC they are awesome) for 3 years and the remaining time Military Police Harbor patrol on Naval Base Norfolk (unaffectionatly know as Little Chicago for all the trouble and it is the 2nd larest city in VA during working hours), we ran 3 of the 26' monark aluminum boats with twin 150 evinrude counter rotating outboards and a 23' foot boston whaler with twin 130s. Which I personnal had serious props out of the water hang time from a huge wave. Visited lots of ports and cool places but nothing beat the USA.

    Sorry more ramblings....

Glad you enjoyed the post and thanks for the great site.

  3. Sorry I did not write this sooner, I just missed it. Thanks you to all that have already shared the many helpful tips. I love this site.

I grew up near Port Washington, Wi. My brother in law (now X..... dang it ....Sherry) dragged me out fishing all the time. I guess no one else wanted to get up at 4 am to go fishing. That is where I got my love for this big puddle. I sure learned a lot of stuff from him. That was the mid 80's and fishing was pretty good. Do you remember the old school stuff... paper graphs, speed indicator made of a sinker and mono tied to a pointer, homemade down riggers, all the radio chatter (I miss that radio.... sometimes) ??? Thanks Larry G. !!! :thumb:

Wind the clock a bit ..... I spent 8 years in Uncle Sams Canoe Club (navy 88-96) I moved to Oshkosh to be close to my brother / pheasant hunting buddy. Renee and I have 3 girls in college Heather, Sarah, and Crystal and the boy Mason (aka Mushy). The girls are part time fishergirls and Mason is well on his way to being a hard core fishing nut.... 7 years old and knows Lake Michigan lingo ..... I love it !!!!

Renee helped me land the boat of my dreams this spring. We got a 2011 Lund Tyee 1750 with a 150 Merc Verado with lots of extra goodies. I still can not believe it is our boat. Thanks Hunny!

Living in Oshkosh is a pain when you want to go to Lake MI, you have to go 30 minutes south or north before you can head towards the lake. I am pretty sure Renee is going to file for a divorce if I keep getting her up at 2:45 to hit the lake at 5am (kidding I hope). But on the brght side, The time / distance is the close to the same for Port Washington, Sheygoygan, Trivers (2 rivers), Manitowoc, and Green Bay. Plus the Winnebago system awesome for Walters. We have fished out of all these ports this year except Green Bay. We have meet many nice people along the way too.

I am an avid ( wife calls it a sickness) pheasant hunter and an ok deer hunter. Renee and I are both volenteers with Cub scouts pack 3615, I have a den of 10 wolf scouts. I find that to be very rewarding, getting the boys exposed to many outdoor / conservation experiences and to help them be good little persons.

I really enjoy giving kids and adults the chance to fish and land their first silver. 5 kids and 2 adults so far and more to come ! :D I am hoping to volenteer some trips (like make a wish or disabled vets) in the years to come. What a great way to give back to the sport I love.

Renee is starting to see and understand why I love being out on the lake. The early morning sunrise views, the peace and quiet, and the singing of the cable through the water. The smell of hot coffee that mixes with the lake air. That smell is way different when you are out on the big puddle instead of the office.

Well thanks for reading my personal ramblings, I hope you enjoyed it.

63 fish in 11 trips so far in 2011.

Keep your hook in the water !

    Mushy's Dad out :cool::cool::cool:

  4. Holy Cow !!! ...... We got out at 5am headed out to 300 just south of the harbor. Landed one big bow on a brand new blueberry muffin, his was so intent on getting off he curled the spoon in half. Cruised around 300 for a while and ran into sea fleas on the lines, those are a slimy pain. Not much going on out there other than the fleas so we ran into 180 a few miles north of the harbor. Three line set and things started poping fast. We had a hard time getting the all the lines set. After 3 fish we finally got all 9 set. We had several fire drills today....3 doubles and almost a quad. What a blast. We stayed in the 180' to 160' range trolling north mostly and following a scum line of algae covered alewifes. 2,3,5, and 7 color all getting action even the flat line 150 yards out the chute got one. Monkey puke, rotten banana, orange with orange ladder back, green dolphin were the hot spoons. 47' on one rigger 38' on the other and running 90' and 105' feet off the ball. Dipsey rods 100' and 140' foc with a #2 set on the dial. Green coyote dodger and green fly had multiple fish. Once again Brads cut bait plugs was our work horses for today. Silver and metalic blue cbp behind an all silver dodger and the wonder bread dodger with wonder bread cbp. Tuna in oil and garlic is down right deadly on these fish. The bows put on quite a show for us today, at least a dozen of them thought they could be part of the air show in Milwaukee. One big bow cleared over 6 feet of air dragging a 8'' dodger and fly, he spit it right at the top. It was awesome!! In the end we had over 40 hits and landed 20 fish, including 3 shakers that I was able to catch before they were dead and the last fish of the limit came as a double. One more as we were picking up the lines. Got them back in quick and happy.

    Mushys Dad

63 fish in the box on 11 trips this year! I have very happy neighbors

  5. Fished from early light until 2 pm. 6 for 10 plus 2 shakers and 3 drivebys. We set up in 80 feet and worked out to 120 found all of our action around 80 to 90 just north of the harbor. Our shining stars for today..... Brads cut bait plug stuffed with tuna and garlic. One was a wonder bread with a wonder bread 8' dodge and the other one was a silver and metallic blue with a silver dodger, these two took the most of the fish today 4 and 2 respectively. A mountain dew flasher and matching fly hooked up with one. A white coyote with lbb fly running on a 7 color on a planner board took one and a driveby. I was very successful at beating the 2nd fish with the net. The brads cut bait plug was hot all day especially when the sun was at high noon. Ended up with 2 hos 3 kings and a grease ball. Biggest fish was a 13 lb King.

I used the tips from the tough day thread and we got some things going. Thanks to all who posted tips in that thread. GOOD STUFF:thumb:

On a side note I meet up with a couple of old duffers that limited out today with 10 big fish. VERY TIGHT LIPPED those old farts are. Said they were out really deep and and took and hour to get back in. I saw them coming in from the north as we were pulling in too. I think they were out to 350 or better. Started asking about colors and lures and such......and they played deaf and walked away. Oh well !

    Good luck and tight lines!

  6. Patience is highly over rated when it comes to fishing. I'm not saying you should start changing all your baits but speed, location, and direction changes may be in order. You can be patient all day long or do something and maybe make it happen. Ya gotta find out what they want and then give em lots of it.:)

I'm developing some different methods I call "Force Feed Fish" or "FFF". It's not for the times when fish are extremely active, it's for when they are neutral or somewhat lethargic. I have been having very favorable results with it. This will work with every species of fish large and small. The Force be with you. :)

Master Jedi (AKA Priority1), are you willing to share these Force tips?

  7. My Dad told me many years ago, there are lures that catch fish and there are lures that catch the fisherman. So me being not as smart as my Dad I bought 2 Friday, thinking this is money not well spent.

Headed out of Manitowoc Saturday afternoon. Fogot the tuna and a can opener, pick them up on the way. I now have more money in a can opener then the cut baits, oops! I only ran one wonder bread cutbait behind a large silver flasher and 20 foot behind the ball. In short order we boated 2 king 11 and 10 pounds, and one other came unbuttoned. Left the other cutbait in the boat, refer back to the not as smart part.

I am a now a believer! Next I will run at least 2 in the spread. :thumb: Dad would approve!

My question ... has anyone targeted walleyes with these??? and what do you fill them with???
