  1. I thought summer is over:confused: Diagnosed a problem with my boat that has been sitting for the last month. Took her out on the water, ya know, had to make sure everything was working ok. Big inland lake yielded some pike and some bass. I learned last year to keep the boat out until it is absolutely necassary to winterize. Phenomenal day to be on the water.....

  2. My BIL has bert's on his boat, and they work ok. The problem is that the ratcheting hardware is broke, so if you go for a rod the whole rod holder slips. To fix this problem we have been using clothes pins as a shim to sure up the ratcheting part of the holder. Which is fine, but $ for $ when you spend upwards of $70 per rod holder, not to mention the track, and then it break on you, I couldn't deal with that. Check out those fishlanders, go to their website, They kick a$$.

  3. I recently picked up 2 triple rod holders made by fishlander. My buddy didn't even want to let me borrow them the first time, he said I would never want to fish without them. The adjustability is great, I had not one problem running 2 dipsy's and one planer off of one side. Super easy to mount and super easy to manipulate. I've looked at all of these other big jon, berts, etc...and my buddy was right, I'll never fish w/out!!!

  4. IMO Make sure that your vehicle is going to be able to pull the boat out of the water no problem. I have seen it a few times this year at a public launch when someone is trying to pull the boat out of the water but just sits there and spins tires. Eventually they had pulled the boat out of the water, but I had time to dock my boat, put it on the trailer, pull it out, and put all my gear away before this guy even left the dock. I have never used my 4x4 to pull my boat out, so my best guess is that a good set of tires maybe key. I think the one thing that can go a long ways for everyone, cause we have all been in the situation waiting for someone, or maybe have even been that guy, is to be patient and not fly off the handle!!!

  5. I have smoked turkey before and never used any kind of brine. Just threw it on and several beers later it was ready for consumption. Never tried this one either, but when you deep fry a turkey you can inject it with whatever flavor it is you want, I wonder if you did that to a smoked turkey if the flavor would turnout good too. I do know that the turkey I ate off my smoker was devoured by everyone there. Not too mention that everyone at the party told me that the turkey was awesome.

  6. Fishing was red hot this past weekend. We fished in 100-140fow. Good number of double headers, my first triple, and lots and lots of fish. Good combo's flasher w/red meat rig, jumbo hootchie with green glow squid full core only in the morning, flasher flies, and canadian plugs down 65-108. Action was fast and furious all day on Saturday with a total of 15 for 27. We started up Sunday morning right where we left off on Sat. eve and just kept nailing them going 5 for 12 Sunday. Had to go Sunday morning, but if able to stay out and fish longer we would have finished with our limits. Took 3 in a row on the squid full core setup, as fast as you could put it out we were taking hits on it. Meat outproduced everything else, but at least everything else was working too, which made the action pretty fast.

  7. Fishing right outside of Onekema should be as good as anywhere else in the area. Have fished Onekema a few times, to the north of the piers is a spot they call the barrel. It comes from shore, drops from 50 - 140fow and then goes back up to like 70 fow then as you head west is the shelf. A friend of mines dad lives up there and he fishes it all the time with good success. Last time he was up the just circled the barrel, using canadian plugs, and moonshine glow spoons, I would also recomend putting out some meat rigs, and this should be a recipe for a good morning. Good Luck...

Radio chatter is 68 - 06 -07, 6&7 seem to be more locals.

  8. Well, some of your gear may not have faired so well, but @ least you brought back some meat for the smoker. I don't know if you saw me on 55, I waved @ you as you passed by me heading home. I fished this weekend too in manistee, and we couldn't get anything going. few hits, one landed. I don't know, I would rather have all those problems and still catch fish, then not catch fish at all. Glad to hear you did well.

    Good Luck...

  9. I too made my way out of AuGres today. The fishing was definately more work then it was a few weeks ago. However, it was a great day on the water. Started @ the point in 18fow and it was the first rod in, and there was a fish on. Good way to start the day, thought it would be over in no time. Picked away, went to 3 spots, and each spot yielded 1-3 fish. No hogs, but some good eaters. Tally for the day was 6. Silver/Blue Dave's Kaboom, Meat on CHBB, and not one taker on a spoon.

    Good Luck...

  10. Had an invite from a friend I used to work with to go to Erieau & fish w/the steelheaders that he belonged to. I had the time so I went with him. Left my house @ 2:15a.m. to make it to his house on time. It was a long day. Launched the boat @ 7:00a.m. and headed out to the fishing spot. started to set lines and it wasn't too long before the lead came off the planer and there was a chromer way back dancing on top of the water. We ran 2 lead cores, one on each side, 2 riggers about 25' down, 2 dipsies 50-60 back, and 2 off the planers with snap weights. Everything took fish. We fished 50fow. From 7:00 -1:00 we landed 9 steelies, and 8 walleye. Not to mention the number of fish that we missed. With about an hour to go we started trying some other tackle to see if we could get into a monster. Put 2 jet divers out. Couldn't have been more than a minute with the jet diver and we hookedd up, missed it, sent it back out only to get another hit immediately. Awesome day with a great crew of guys, we worked together like we have been fishing together for a while. Erieau ROCKS!!!!!!!!

    Good Luck...

  11. No problem Frank. Always nice to have more than one person on the boat who knows what they are doing. TY for your help. This will be my last weekend out of AuGres. I too am gunning for the salmon for the month of August. Walleye have been great for the last month, no doubt. Yesterday was a slow bite, but thankful to put a few in the box. That big one put a nice grin on my face, am working on the pics, hopefully I can show it. Sat. & Sunday Channel 68 "HUSKYJERK".

    Good Luck...

  12. Well gave it a go tonight for the evening fish. Didn't know what I was in for, as I called earlier to the marina and there were reports of 5'-6' waves. Had to go anyway just to check on the vessel. Motored out and headed south to my favorite spot. We caught one channel cat, and one undersized walleye. Not a great day Didn't see anyone else out there until we set up for the 2nd drift, and not much heard on the radio either. I guess we all have bad days, and the turbulant seas didn't help either.

All I know is that I will not give up. I have one more week in Au Gres, and next weekend I will be really hunting for those eyes. Thanks Frank for coming out for a boat ride. Wish I could have put us on some more fish, but sometimes that is the way it goes.

    Good Luck...

  13. I am interested in Ludington, Onekema, & Frankfort. I have a good connection out of manistee, but don't want to over impose, not to mention that Onekema & Frankfort would be a place I haven't been before. So just wanted to see if anything was out there.

    Thanx
