  1. I have a couple convector 45's with ten colors of lead on them. Thinking about switching 1 over to a 300' copper. If I do how much backer can I get on the reel. I currently have 300 yards of 40lb power pro. Haven't decided whether to go 45 or 32#.

I see the BRC 45# has a diameter of 0.033 and the 32 is 0.030. Should I be able to straight up switch them out with my 27# LC, it should have a dia of around 0.032?

  2. My 8 year old son shot his first turkey this spring with a crossbow. He made a great shot and it didn't go anywhere; 2 steps and dead. We got it all on video; it will be great to look back 20-30 years from now and watch. It was 19 lbs, had a 7-1/8" Beard, and 3/4" Spurs below is a link to the video. There is some pictures at the end.

  3. I have a Uniden Oceanus DSC Submersible radio. I turned it on the other night and noticed that when I adjusted the squelch down and didn't get any static. So I tried to pick up the weather and nothing. The radio beeps when I change channels and when I turn it on so I don't believe it is the speaker.

How do I check the antenna to see if it is ok? And what else can I check.

  4. I have a new lakemaster chip Promaps V3 for my lowrance units. I have a 5500C global maps unit and a LCX20. It works in both units and they are about the same vintage. Make sure you are up to date on your software. Note that the chip will probably not show up in your maps list. It will just start reading it. In my opionion they are the best maps out there. The detail is awsome To bad Johnson outdoors bought them and made their maps exclusive to HB:mad:. Below is a link to the down loads for your unit.

  5. Wire for divers

There are two lb tests of copper 32 and 45. 45 is heavier, and gets deeper than the 32. 32 fishes more like lead core and is a little deeper than lead core. 300' 45 lb copper fishes about 80 down. Personally and i know some guys on here love the 32 blood run, if i am going to run copper i want it to get deeper so i run the 45. Otherwise you may as well run lead core. It is cheaper and easier to deal with. i run up to a 7 color than go to 150 225 300 and 425 lengths of copper.

What kind of depths with those lengths in 45lb copper.

Also do you need a roller rod for copper?

  6. I currently have 2 riggers, 2 diver rods, 4 LC set ups. 2-10 color rods, 1-7 color, 1-3 color. I have been debating on adding some new rods to my spread and have a few questions. So lets start with the basics.

1 is wire rod only used for divers?

    2. What is the advantace of copper over LC.

  7. The powder coat should hold up good. If interested I the contact info for a company out of Grand Rapids that does nice work for a reasonable price. I would also recommend that you use a PC that meets outdoor weatherabilty requirements. I have more info on that. They are currently coating aluminum stuff for our company that has to meet 5 years of exposure.

  8. I have a humminbird with 200/83. The sensitivity goes up to 20.

There is also a max mode and clear mode.

Are you recommending using 200 mode, sensitivity somewhere around 15, and then ping around 80?

What if im fishing for walleyes in 15 fow? Any changes?

The cone angles for humminbirds are reversed from what Lowrance are. 200 kHz/83kHz 20°/60°. So it depends on what graph you have and what you are doing. Some graphs have dual beam tech where they run both frequencies at the same time.

  9. 1. 200 is good for the great lakes. You will never need the depth of the 50 khz in the great lakes. It is a narrower beam and you wont see as much on the screen but what you will see is more accurate. The fish finder is taking a 3d view and putting it out as a 2d view. When you start adding to much information by going to the wider cone you start destroying your target separation. You will get better detail using the 200. It will also show you the bottom density better when targeting big kings on the bottom or lakers on the bottom.

    2 i have found 200 better than 83.

3 both off sensitivity as high as you can take it off auto.

4 i run my ping speed at 80 percent to get better detail.

Pick up Lance Valentines disc on fish finder and you will learn more thatn you will ever need to know: http://www.walleyekid.com/inc/sdetail/4560/8609

The 50 kHz frequency is not the the narrow beem. It is broken down as follows 50/200kHz, 35°/12°. You will get better detail with the 200 kHz. It has alot to do with the frequence. Low frequences travel further than high frequence but do not give you the detail. But you should mark mork fish with 50 khz. As far as the 83/200 it is 120°/20° so the 83 hKz setting is for shallow water. If you go the lowrance website they recommend the 50/200 transducer for the Great Lakes. http://www.lowrance.com/Products/Marine/HDS-Gen2/HDS-10-Gen2/

Makes sense why you found the 200 kHz setting to be better for you. The 50 hkz would probably work even better.

  10. With lowrance units for fishing the big lake you want a HST-DFSBL 50/200kHz, 35°/12° Skimmer Transducer. The 50kHz has a wider cone angle so you will pick up more fish plus that is the frequency lowrance recommends using for deep water.

I currently have a single frequency ducer on my boat 200 kHz. I went jigging lakers the other day in 175' of water I had the ping speed maxed out and the sensitivity above 95% to get decent mark on 20-24" fish. But I could also mark my jig falling all the way to the fish.
