Hello all. New member here. I just purchased a 1980's Starcraft 16' vee hull boat. It's is equipped with 74 Mercury 850, which we got running yesterday. The boat need some TLC and I'm looking for some experienced advice hopefully! The steering is locked up, and I'm assuming I'll need to replace the whole system. My question is what type should I put in there. I'm familiar with the Mercury system with the geared lever which is turned by the steering wheel. During research, I've seen rotary systems which seem pretty straight forward to install. Is this a good option for this motor and boat combo? I don't mind replacing the whole thing as the old one is really rusted and I'm not confident I'll be able to get it freed up. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Here are some photos before any work has started. I am planning a full rebuild on this project and am looking forward to getting some great advice from you folks.
